I'mma write a draft report later in the day as I don't remember my day 1 games very well. Day 1, I played 4 color control (sans white). Day 2 I drafted 4 color spirits (sans green) in the first draft and then UR Elementals ft. 5 Gorehorn Minotaurs in the second draft. Also thanks everyone. It was my first GP. I've only started playing in Theros and really wanted a solid finish this summer before I gotta go back to university.Well done, what did you play?

Anyone else on here going to the Columbus Invitational? Also, if anyone has any tips, id be happy to read them.
Planning on playing Mardu Dragons for Standard, and RW Burn for modern. Ive also been playtesting Hamfactorials Baby Boros, and it seems really strong, im just not too comfortable in Modern.

Guy has a 100% ebay record but only 47 auctions.
At $3100, it was almost certainly not, but a lot of up-bids were by 4 auction hucksters.

BTW I cashed GP Utrecht with 200$. Thought about last round and drew for safe 200$, not worth playing for extra 50$.

I won the first and likely last Modern Masters 2 draft I've played in. I hardlined Affinity and when people told me I was building my deck wrong, I just said "Ok." and then won the event. I rare drafted a Fulminator Mage but passed a foil Electrolyze. My friend rare drafted a Dark Confidant, Splinter Twin, Eye of Ulamog, and possibly something else of non-0 value that I can't remember, and managed to piece together a good but 1 drop- and burn-lite BR deck. No one else had the good sense to draft a focused deck aside from a guy who rare drafted Emrakul and then fashioned a BG sacrifice tokens deck with ramp (for Emrakul but also real cards like Ulamog's Crusher and Pelakka Wurm).
Most of my matches were decided on attacking my opponent for 20 with a 2/x flying idiot I played on turn 2 or casting Cranial Plating after taking 13 damage from an opponent who looked on bewildered because why I wasn't chump blocking his ∞/∞ garbage without evasion. I also drafted the two metalcraft 4-power flyers who were never drawn and played no role in my victory.

No one at my table attempted domain and I cringed as a 13th pick Vengeful Rebirth and myriad Rampant Growths, Skyreach Manta, and Tribal Flames circled the pod. But my path was etched in metal and also the aforementioned Cranial Plating.

eh, if he gets $10,000 (roughly after fees and charity) good for him, he's only an asshole if he decides to go back and reduce how much goes to charity

He is using it to be able to afford going to more GPs. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CGcdJkZVIAIG0dW.png:large & he also said on a stream that he cannot afford to play with foils)There's just something about "using" the community that doesn't sit right with me. I could never accept so much money under those circumstances, especially when I've already said I'd devote some to charity and the money is essentially based on a windfall and is likely intended to go towards something meaningless like Magic.
I'm not hurting for money, though. If this guy is barely making rent, then fine. If he uses the profits to foil out his deck, then be should have donated more to charity.

I don't see it as using the community. If people are bidding on it, that's their decision.

He's selling a story and people are paying for it. No one has a gun to their head demanding they top the last bidder. Given the combination of backlash from members of the community and the effort to donate any of the money to charity at all, good for him.

Ok, when you make it to the top 8 of a highly competitive 2-day tournament with the highest attendance in history and you get tempted with a free $300 bill, you can take the Burst Lighting and wave your dick around and tell everyone how ethical and evolved you are from the rest of the apes playing this meaningless game. Hell, the guy doesn't have to even offer to donate a dime. However, I don't think you've been in that kind of position before, so saying you'd be Mother Theresa presented with the same situation is a crock of shit until proven otherwise. There's just something about "using" the community that doesn't sit right with me. Like, seriously, who are you to judge this guy for selling a Magic card he legally obtained during a competition?

You're words and ideas are still silly.
The nigga has no obligations to do anything, but he OFFERED to donate half to charity. If he gets 20k for it, some charity is BLESSED that he decided to give them 10k and he's EQUALLY BLESSED that he got 10k out of it.
The idea that he's somehow OBLIGATED to give x% of his windfall away on mystical moral principles is silly bordering on asinine.
You have this propensity for projecting your morals/ethics on others like somehow that matters to anyone other then yourself. Just because they're your morals and ethics, that doesn't mean they're right(or wrong). You regularly perpetuate your idea that magic is worthless/meaningless when it's obviously not to most/all the people your speaking to/of so it kinda baffles me that you continue with your crusade against people being serious about the game.

There's a bunch of shit out there that seems worthless to people. Kobe makes 20+ mil a year playing BASKETBALL.
You can go the Crenshaw mall and see 20 dollar pairs of socks that are worth that much because they say LeBron on them.
A good friend of mine made X thousand dollars when he was 16 from winning the world yoyo championships.
Some or all of these things may be worthless to you or me, but spreading your gospel about such is annoying to some people and denigrates the aspirations/achievements of others(though wtf at 20 dollar socks).

You likened listing a valuable card on eBay he got while drafting in the top 8 of a Grand Prix to "using the community" and playing Monday morning quarterback with a scenario you most likely will never be in. Calling you on dick waving righteousness when there is an almost certain likelihood you will never have to follow through on it is absolutely within the bounds of what you said, but feel free to continue claiming I misrepresent you.How did I immediately know when I saw a Thrillo post responding to a post of mine that it would be unnecessarily aggressive towards words and ideas that I never even remotely expressed.

This is going to be really out of left field, but fuck it. I was reading today about how TotalBiscuit (popular YouTube gamer personality) sold his pair of GTX 980s to help fund a pair of Titan X's. Someone made a comment saying that he should have autographed the 980s to sell them for more. The consensus was that would be sleazy and unethical.
I feel like this is a similar situation. He's using his fame (from GoyfGate) to arbitrarily make more money for doing nothing. This would be like LSV buying cards for retail, autographing them, and selling them at a premium en masse. You'd definitely be taken aback by that. It would make him look really, really lame.
On top of this, he pledged what he probably felt like was going to only be a couple hundred dollars more than the base value of the card to charity. Meaning, at one point, he was going to take his $~300 and say "that's all I need." The card sells for $700, he takes $350 and donates $350, the end.
But he structured the promise (perhaps not even taking scalability into mind) in such a way that, yes, the charity will be getting a lot more money, but so will he. The $300 is not enough for him anymore now there's an opportunity to make more. And the only reason why the opportunity is there is because he's now /r/magicTCG famous.
And, honestly, we all project our morals and ethics onto others. That's pretty much implicit in the social dynamic that is morals and ethics. For you to think something is moral is for you to think the opposite is immoral. You're projecting your own in thinking that it's fine just as much as I am in thinking that it isn't. Just because we disagree doesn't mean me making a post "against" him isn't any different than you making a post "for" him.
And for the record, the worst I said was that he looks like "kind of an asshole" by still deciding to keep half of the money, and I also acknowledged that if he was not very financially well off, then I would have no issue with it. If he plans on using it to fund more GPs...that's still not something that I find to be an acceptable use of the money when paired against giving it to a charity. I just don't, and I'm not sorry.
SM, you complete me.
