Hmm... tricky one. I enjoyed Juan Muñoz Martín's "Fray Perico y su Borrico" as a kid, as well as the first sequel "Fray Perico en la Guerra". How old is your kid? There are classics, like "El Quijote", or translations from other languages, like Emilio Salgari's "Sandokán", or even "La Cabaña del Tío Tom" (the translation of Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin"). Those can be for older kids.

If he's younger and you're not that kind of weird people who hate Disney, you can always get your hands on the Spanish versions of all of their adaptations.

I'd be careful with "El Quijote", though. It's like reading Shakespeare, with all those archaisms and weird orthography from the days of old.

Trivia fact: It is said that Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare both died on the same day, April 23rd 1616. However at the time of their deaths, Spain had already adopted the Gregorian Calendar while England had not, so in reality they died 10 days apart.
