Don't knock it until you've tried it! :P Not sure if you've read the Rakdos Blitz thread, but my buddy piloted this deck to 2-3 (first night ever playing), 3-0-2, and 2-0 drop finishes. I think there's something here to pursue... Maybe it's not the most refined--I just threw it together for him, but...

Rakdos Blitz

I made a Br aggressive deck for my friend who's just getting into Magic. He literally played for three hours then took the deck to these results: FNM 3-2, TNM 3-0-2 into top eight, and FNM 2-0 drop. The deck has a ridiculously high win-rate for being noob-piloted. Has anyone had success with this ki...

To be fair, my deck of 5 4-drops 21 lands is a very borderline decision, but I'm not really concerned with casting Chandra on curve, especially in the matches where she's good ironically because they're the matches that are either going long(control) or they're the decks with a lot x/1's where your...

I definitely wouldn't replace Hellrider with Battledriver - instead, I'd use those slots to lower the curve a bit: -2 Hellrider; +1 Noble, +1 Loyalist or Spear. I also feel that Doom Blade isn't as good as more Spears in the MD (especially with Phoenix) and that the mana base could use a little wor...

Consider the following decks: 22 land, 4 4-drops, 34 1- to 3-drops; 22 land, 38 4-drops. I think it's necessary to add more lands to the second deck.

Burning Earth should come in against Reanimator, UWr, and Jund. Chandra should stay in against UWr and Jund, so that's 8 4-drops which definitely merits 23 land, IMO. Keep testing and fine-tuning the deck because it looks great. No reason to commit to a list yet. Also, consider Traiterous Blood over...

That's a fair assessment. It's done very well on Cockatrice (8-1, 17-4), but only ran into one UWr (2-0) and one Jund (1-2).

"almost always" 2/2's exist in MTG, btw. Vexing Devil is only slightly rarer... Remember that Avacyn Restored was a large set as well, and was triple drafted for an entire season. Innistrad got two seasons, sure, but that's not quite enough to make up for that large a difference in price....

When does Stromkirk Noble actually deal 4 damage? That's what I thought. He almost always deals 3 or 6 damage. He also eats a card out of their hand or trades with a creature. I'd play (R): lightning bolt + target player discards a card, over (R): char, any day of the week. Not to mention, one of t...

We don't need to be so abrasive towards one another; this is just discussion. Though, Johnny, Valdarith is right: if we're to establish a most-efficient base for this deck, then all decisions have to be efficiently-made. To do this, we need strong arguments for the inclusion of any card. Brimstone V...

Vexing Devil > Stromkirk Noble... This is absolutely not true. Have you read any of the literature on this website? Stromkirk Noble applies pressure while also (usually) trading with a card from their hand. Vexing Devil is only decent in three decks: (1) Turbo Gruul with Experiment One, (2) Burn, (...

That's a fair premise for a more stable deck. This is AIR; we don't care about what the opponent does--either we're shitting on them, or they're shitting on us. We want as many creatures as possible to just flood the field and activate 1-2 Batallion effects each turn. In the scenario you mentioned, ...

It's hard to make it all-in when the two creatures adding to the all-in-ness are of conflicting colors (i.e., BTE and Spike Jester). I think this deck definitely wants to be on the 7-fliers plan.

Freedom, you bring up some good points. Maybe we can run a split of the two somehow, since both seem relevant. Another thing to consider is that Chandra's Phoenix makes your Pillar of Flames and Flames of the Firebrand relevant in the control match-up.

As I mentioned above, the 19/3 land split is technically correct. We definitely don't want 23 lands without Thundermaw Hellkite, and can't get down to 18 mountains for BTE reliably. I actually think -1 Pillar of Flame -> +1 Firefist Striker would be perfect in the maindeck. Look at the recent opens ...

The list looks really good. As helpful as Flames of the Firebrand seems, what do you think of moving it to the maindeck? Johnny, I think 19/3 is the correct split for your lands. Additionally, I think the Brimstone Volleys and at least one Pillar of Flame can become some combination of Stonewright (still good with 19 red sources, even better with a flying buddy), Legion Loyalist (relevant betallion effects and an addi...

Alex, this deck wants a playset of Mutavault and a playset of Boros Reckoner. These two things alone force one of four things: monored, Boros, Rx with a playset of guildgates, or a 28- to 29-land deck. I'd choose one of the former two.

I don't know if 4 Mutavaults is really necessary in this list. It's a nice card to see, but I don't necessarily want to see it every game, nor do I really ever want to see two. Because of this, maintaining 19 mountains on 22 lands still seems ideal.

Is 4 boars and 2 maulers enough BTE fodder? My build has 12 BTE-friendly spells and I think that's what we really have to take advantage up. There definitely is some merit to a build with a bunch of 1-drops to chain off of BTE too, but I think we need to focus on one mindset!
