Amazing show. I am a tad annoyed, and have already seen two inconsistencies with the book that might be a big deal. I realize shows can't do everything in the book, and they might add a few scenes, but this one annoyed me the most (it's not a horrible plot spinner, just an interesting one)

I liked the episode a lot, but thought it could have used something with a bit more of a "wow factor" to end it, ala the "push" from season one or the "purge" from season two.

I mean, that really can 't be helped. The book starts up pretty much catching up from book two, a clash with kings. I realize the season finale was a bloody war where almost the entire Lannister family could have been killed, but now the time is peace.
I don't want to ruin too much, but it gets really exciting in a few episodes, based on the number of chapters book one covered (Also, recall if you will about an episode from Season 1 when the small council meets with Robert. I'll post against when I remember the name).

Ok is this thread still a thing now? Because I would like to confess a mild amount of curiosity watching non-book readers' reaction of the last episode, where GRRM proceeds to destroy everyone's feels via the red wedding. I mean, that was a very hard part of the book to get through, I personally had to put it down for a few weeks, I was so disgusted by how unusually cruel GRRM was on his own characters. But I could only imagine what series watchers were going through in that morbidly vivid turn of events. I sincerely hope they don't get completely and totally turned off (recent feedback from friends appears that they are, at the moment) from following the series, since it is an amazing story regardless of the medium. Don't worry, things get better!

That scene makes the series amazing in my eyes. It's not all good triumphs over evil. It's life sucks, tough shit, how do you rebound. And then the series gets better.
Yes, I've read all the books.

It's easy to argue the series in fact does not get better after book three.
Also, use spoiler tags for stuff, please.

If books 4 + 5 had arrived in 2003 and 2006 then fans probably would have been more forgiving about their lack of quality compared to the first 3 books. But waiting 5 years for Feast for Crows then another 6 years for Dance with Dragons must have really sucked for the people around since the series started.
I thought A Feast for Crows was necessary after book 3; it's sort of the calm after the storm, giving everyone a chance to exhale. A Dance with Dragons was garbage though. Too many characters sitting around talking about doing things without actually doing them (Daenarys most of all). If GRRM doesn't return to form in Book 6 then I fear his goodwill with his readers may finally disappear (it's already tenuous with many).

I get the impression he is creatively drained, book five was just bad.

He's got his characters too spread out at the moment. Something needs to bring them together again, more focused on one event. That will probably be the appearance of the Others and the destruction of the Wall now that winter has finally arrived.

Danny needs to finally get her amazing butt across the Narrow Sea.
For all you fans of the show, here are some memes from Sunday's episode:

I just finished reading the third book and haven't seen any of the show.
That being said, I was SOOOOOO disappointed with the red wedding stuff, but it didn't cause me to put the book down or anything. After what happened very early with Eddard, nothing this man does with his main characters surprises me anymore.
I'm totally rooting for Jon and Tyrion, though.

Not so much "surprised" as "pissed off" in my case.
