How much to buy MTGS?

I'm pretty sure I could afford it. Given a few shifts around the corner of Lowes & Carls' Jr. I have a loyal clientele on Fridays.

Word on the street is that some recent developments have negatively affected the market value of the site.

They're like the Florida Marlins. They had a good year sometime in the past, but then they traded away all their good players and are left with a 90-loss team and no diehard fans. Find out who is the Yankees of mtg sites and divide that site's worth by an order of magnitude or more to get what you'd have to pay.

Obviously after changing everything about the staff and the way the site runs, but that's an auto first for anyone so I don't count it as the first proper thing I would do.

It was more like a more gimmicky games forum. Only a couple of people stuck to actually keeping a personal thread (Manders, me & frox, Iso) it would be more focused on personal posts about anything you wanted.

I dunno man, .79 cents gets you a Totino's Party Pizza around here.

At least a Totino's Party Pizza feels good coming out. MTGS doesn't.

Comparing the two is an amazingly fun exercise. Both are aimed at children and jobless bachelors, for instance.

The worth of MTGS started tanking right when the Rianalnn debacle was in full swing. How come the new folks haven't been able to turn things around?

Maybe we shouldn't call them 'new folks' since they were appointed by Emperor Slandernn almost a year ago.

So in about little over 2 years time the site basicly lost almost HALF its value. HOW DO YOU FUCK UP THAT BA....oh wait... We know
Posted: Sat Apr 27, 2013 5:42 am
by Pendulum
Oh, more than half. It's a lot like Magic cards, actually, the site is valued on a grading scale based on what others "think" it can sell for, so sites like the one above just take a mean average, which is invariably high because people like to sell their stock at premium. Hard analytical data companies (which you do usually have to pay for, luckily I have an account) put it's true value far lower. I... it actually stymies me a bit, even with all the crap over the past 2 years it shouldn't have devalued as much as it did. It's rather anomalous, although I suppose with the site being in what would essentially be escrow IRL I guess that wouldn't help.

The site also has a terrible word of mouth reputation.
It's not known for a welcoming atmosphere, helpful advice, proper card evaluations, or relaxed moderation.
It is known for bad players, obnoxious trolls, overzealous mods, and rippers who ride off into the sunset with hundreds of dollars worth of cards while Sheriff Galspanic fires wildly at them from a distance as they escape.

Even in my wild west analogy, Sheriff Galspanic is still the most pro-active elected official in the town. The rest are a bunch of lazy bureaucrats.

And if Deadwood taught us anything, it's that one sheriff cannot change a corrupt town no matter how hard he tries.

Well now, wait a minute, Gals has too much integrity to shoot people in the back, Spammy.
...although my defense of him does break down a little when you realize that means he has no choice but to shoot them in the fucking face.

Galspanic banned my wife's account on MTGS minutes after I posted here that I would never appeal to a morally corrupt staff.

You not appealing ruined what could have been an epic summit so of course they were pissed.

ftr, that was when Boubouille came up with his "generous" offer that as a boon to banned members, they would be eligible to re-appeal before the 6months limit.
(noone even had bothered to appeal in the first place, except kpaca, whose appeal was still ongoing)

Funny thing, I was recently told some stuff about Boubouille and his times over MMO champion, I fear we might have rolled him the red carpet without inquiring on his background first.
oh well, live to learn I guess.
