post rotation speculation targets?

I'm after the RTR removal spells, like Supreme Verdict, Detention Sphere, Mizzium Mortars, and Dreadbore.
I'm also after some RDW stuff, like Ash Zealot, Ogre Battledriver, and Legion Loyalist.

also: Renounce the Guilds, Legion's Initiative and Path of Bravery given the RW guy spoiled from DD.

The RW guy from Theros is bad, though.
Like he's not the worst guy, just it's probably more likely than not that he's not good. All of the token generating cards of note rotate with Innistrad, and what spells are you going to play that target this? The swarm-pump effect and requirement to play bad cards to make it more than a bad Mindsparker -- which doesn't require bad mana to play -- doesn't seem worth it.

RTR:
Verdict, Sphere, Mortars, Dreadbore, Jace4, Smiter, Angel of Serenity, Rakdos's Return, Revelation
GTC:
Domri, Reckoner, Aurelia, Gyre Sage, Assemble the Legion
DGM:
Voice, Ral, Baron, Mimic, AEtherling, Advent, Renounce, Notion Thief

These are all essentially your "can't miss" targets that aren't lands and have some grounding in either Block or older format play (notion thief). M14 cards are all reprints, Battledriver, Sovereign, Demon, and the other good cards I didn't list are all
currently at the price of a pack or higher (or a reprint).

There also seems to be support for RG in Theros, so I would definitely hold onto as many Burning Tree Shaman and Ghor Clan Rampagers as you can, as they're good in Modern and will probably be good in the Standard to come.

are you a fan of Red deck wins stuff for the small format to maybe spike a bit, or should I move that stuff into stuff like mortars, dreadbore, and jace4?

cards in red deck wins are never really worth any money because 9/10 it's not eternally playable and is the "budget surprise close a tournament" deck in essentially every format ever. cards that absolutely make the deck -- like hellrider -- are the only exceptions to this, since the rest of the deck is mostly a series of interchangable, barely playable cards.

why are you collecting ash zealot when snapcaster mage and graveyard abilities are rotating out of standard? haste blood knight is ok, but ash zealot isn't even showing up in standard rdw right now and there's a reasonable chance wizards will print "2cc red creature" in theros.

i would not go too deep on dreadbore since doom blade and putrefy are legal, so that kind of pressures dreadbore as being multicolor and sorcery speed and not scalable into a wrath of god effect like mortars. it will see play in standard and possibly modern a little bit,
but certainly not as much in standard as mortars and verdict will.

I'm getting them for like a dollar and it seems fine as a 2/2 haste first striker. It doesn't itneract favorably with BTE, so I'm really hoping to just drop them on someone who wants to build the deck at closer to 2 dollars.

I'll look into moving them into more solid removal from RTR.

they're really not worth more than a dollar. their high has likely passed.

What do you think about Relevation? Worth picking up or do you think they'll dip?

Revelation is probably at it's high point now. I doubt it'll climb much more.

they've hit higher than they are now.

I have 4 sets of RtR on magic online. When should I redeem them for optimum value?

I know I asked this question in April but I'm curious how Lon you guys think I should hold then for...months? Years?

Prices will go up in December-January, so probably around then.

I'd hold on to Deathrites and maybe Abrupt Decays if it dodges the duel deck reprint.

well the plan would be to sell them as complete sets, not break them up.

basically, do you guys think that the value of a complete set would be higher in January or post rotation? when I used to trade, cards lost a ton of value after they rotated out of standard, now it seems that a lot of the cards go way up in value...I don't want to miss out on a ton of value

well that's the problem with selling complete sets because usually most of the cards in an single set are not actually good so your choices are generally sell the cards that are good for their full value or package them with cards that are not good and receive less value per card but more value in total.

the problem here is that several cards in rtr are modern and legacy staples and you'd be insane to sell them because they're prospectively worth infinityteen dollars.

so really it's a short term gain versus wait and build "conundrum" but i would just sell the sets when rtr peaks in value unless you want to hold the revelations, jaces, duals, deathrites, verdicts, spheres, and decays while ditching the smiters, mortars, demons, rats, and zealots, and whatever else i'm forgetting because magic the gathering is actually the last thing on my mind in hierarchy of attention right now.

honestly i started dumping all my rtr stuff that wasn't going to hold value and it's been working out pretty well, but having 4 copies of a card is a lot less than 40 copies of a card, so dumping the complete sets and washing your hands of it may be the deal for you.

alternatively, replace deathrites with folded up pieces of notebook paper that say "deathrite shaman" on them in sharpie for maximum value

Deathrite's should retain their value post roatation, some legacy decks run them. If and When they get unbanned from Modern, expect them to spike again
