How is Your LGS Handling Modern Masters?

It seems there's a lot of variance in the way stores are handling this set. Once this is all said and done it will be interesting to see just how limited the print was and what the prices settle at. But right now, how is your store dealing with it?

My LGS is doing a $65 sealed event next Saturday. It doesn't seem to crazy because it seems that around $60 is the norm for MM sealed, and the price includes Pizza, drinks, sleeves, and only the people playing will be allowed in the store. The only thing I could complain about is that prize support is going to be store credit instead of more MM, but the owner is also planning a draft and wants to make sure there is MM for prizes for that. The draft will be the same thing, except $40

Another store near me is doing a $25 draft with no prize support at all. I'm thinking about being that guy and just going to draft and then drop.
Depending on the environment I might stay and play though

I don't even know if my LGS will sell modern masters =(

I need to call them. But maybe it will be like Commanders Arsenal: two months before the release they're selling 1 box at $250. No need to say it's sitting there. (And all I wanted was the cool life counter).

They probably won't even get any in at mine lol

Well, that's a shame to hear. I think the print run could have been bigger (although I know absolutely no details) so stores could run more events with these.

There's probably two spots still open, come to my LGS! lol

It really is a clusterfuck. With a normal set, it's completely understandable that Wizards would keep their collation information secret: they need to keep interest high and if worst comes to worst we know their main goal is making as much money as possible so they can do additional print runs or dozens of other creative things. But with this set, that model just falls apart. Especially for collectors, the information they've thrown us is entirely unusable; can I trade a normal Dark Confidant for an MM one straight up? If not, which one is going to be worth more?

Although it's a golden time for alterers; not only is there a whole bunch of new versions of very playable cards flooding the market here soon, but I've already gotten a few requests to just blank the new art and "make it look as much as possible like the old ones." ^_^

My LGS is selling boxes for $260 cash, $280 credit.

My LGS got 18 boxes and is selling none of them. For 9 weeks the draft format every Sunday will be MM, with everyone scheduled in ahead of time for 1 to 3 of those drafts (depending on your attendance in the past year or something). Should be fun!

My store let people sign up ahead of time for $150 dollar boxes, but this was when Tarmogoyf was the only known card.

Is there a shortage of this set that's forcing players to battle tooth and claw to acquire overpriced booster boxes and singles?

Sign ups in advance for drafts, no boxes being sold to individuals.

I find the stores refusing to sell boxes pretty amusing.

Vidya games over this MM mess.

I think the set will sell well but will be a train wreck. The massive limit print on a very much in desire set is very BLAH. For a format they want to support this seems to be a shitty support to it.

I went to my local store (WPN store) today to buy one booster of MM. They had none for sale, and only got enough to fill preorders and a small draft. Well, it's nice that they got enough for the preorders and a draft, but this limited availability just sucks.

I just found out my lgs got twice as much mm as they said and they're drafting non stop this weekend aside from tomorrow's sealed event.

Availability is actually quite decent here. I saw one guy walk out of the shop with 6 boxes though, making me want to murder his grandmother.

I personally got hold of 2 boxes, with one on ebay coming my way as well.

I found Modern masters packs casually on sale on a newspaper store. seems like the scarcity of this edition got seriously overplayed...

I was in a Newbury Comics (New England chain that sells music) yesterday and they had MM packs for 11 dollars.

For us it was like

Players: Hey will you have modern masters?

Store owner: Yeah! like 3 boxes.

Players: Will you schedule a draft?

Store owner: Nah! i already sold them all to my friends.

End of story.

The store I go to the most basically presold almost everything he had and kept a box or two to sell as boosters. He was able to get another few boxes in, presold most of those, kept 1 for a draft deck, and I think kept one to open for the store so he could sell the singles.

What's interesting though is that when he went to order more boxes recently, his supplier tripled the price of boxes. Apparently Starcity Games and Channel Fireball have bought almost every box of modern masters on the west coast and most supplier have little to no inventory left.

I don't understand their online availability....it seems that none of the bots on mtgo have any packs to sell. are they untradeable?

Apparently the store in midtown I play at has been doing store-packed MM drafts over the past week, but I've been indisposed during that time and had to miss out on what is not a very interesting limited format.

It's unfortunate that value drafting and drafting a good deck are largely mutually exclusive.
