One thing worth noting is the control matchup got a lot worse now that they have an edict and can make proactive plays with dragons.
On the flip side, the matchup vs. big abzan gets a lot better with the big sideboard plan and having access to surrak which rumbles well.

So the name doesn't matter at all. They're both basically mono-red.
The atarka version is MUCH better though.
Me and Josh where talking about it on facebook. The green splash in addition to 'just' raw power, you're lategame is so much better because you can actually burn your opponent out much more often after they stabilize. Command and become immense simply let you beat people with your leftovers. Instead of just having randomly goblins that equate to a mere wild slash, they suddenly become stoke the flames on top of the lightning bolt you throw at them. Siege rhino's are less potent because they don't give burst lifegain. Hell, I've atarka'd a radiant fountain.
That and become immense is a card that's very hard to play around.

I get angry because one time I said on some internet message board my decklist that included progsphinx and I called it aggro. It didn't sit right with some people and when I said basically 'wow what kind of sperg would fucking care?' they got even angrier.
http://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/commen ... lays_mtgo/ lots of upset people in the comments holy shit. Another 'what kind of sperg would fucking care?'

so you're hung up on deck names but asking why people get hung up on deck names

I don't think that conclusion logically follows the previous argument.

Eh I tested Atarka red all last week and ran it at States and I just hate the deck. Granted I was eliminated(0-2) without keeping a single 7 card hand but all week the deck didnt feel that great but I had limited options so I played it anyways.
Deck is good in theory and obv ran well at the PT but its just not for me....
Got my Regional PTQ coming up on the 25th....torn between Jeskai/Mardu/RB Dragons and Raph Levy's Big Red.
I really like how the deck is so evenly split across the curve...
6 1-drops
8 2-drops
8 3-drops
8 4-drops
I saw the twitter link posted 5 pages back or so but here is thedeck
[deck]

60 Cards
Sideboard (15)
1 Swamp

I'm just a little confused on the Swiftspear in the board....not many spells.

If you're wanting to run Levy's list, then two cards are missing from the sideboard:
Seismic Rupture. I'm guessing the Swiftspear comes in with all the rest of the spells to transition to R/b control. It survives Rupture and can still attack for two.

Loved this deck that went 7-3 in Standard at the Pro Tour and thought you guys would like it over here too. Its a sledgehammer type deck.
[deck]Planeswalker (2)
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
Creature (10)
4 Thunderbreak Regent
4 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury
Sorcery (8)
3 Read the Bones
4 Thoughtseize
1 Crux of Fate
Instant (15)
4 Hero's Downfall
3 Draconic Roar
3 Bile Blight
3 Foul-Tongue Invocation
2 Kolaghan's Command
Land (16)
4 Temple of Malice
4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
2 Haven of the Spirit Dragon
4 Bloodfell Caves
1 Radiant Fountain

1 Crux of Fate
3 Anger of the Gods
3 Duress
1 Foul-Tongue Invocation
1 Virulent Plague
1 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
4 Goblin Rabblemaster[/deck]
It feels like it has game against Aggro, Midrange and Control.
Good threats, but nothing that can't be Downfall'd so a little weak there.
Great disruption and amazing removal. Cant complain here.
Decent card advantage engine in Read the Bones and Chandra. No major spell to win the game though.
I love the Rabble out of the board vs control. Thoughtseize into Rabble seems amazing.
im playing something like this since dtk is out with great success at least on cockatrice. will test it in paper this game day.
i just play it a little bit more agressive with 4 hordeling outburst and some dragon fodder.

After playing Brad Nelson's Abzan Agro I can tell it runs too many lands. I hit my colors consistently, however just drew too many lots of time. Probably cutting to 25 as I like idea of playing more lands to hit colors more consistently.
I also dont know if I like having 4 anafenzas and 3 suraks. While boths are awsome, I had to many games where I had 2 anafenzas and 2 surraks in hand. Might cut 1 anafenza (I know LP will hate me ;o) and play something else. While Brimaz looks best, I dont know if mana can support it.
Tommorow I will playtest drgons list: Mardu, Jeskai and Grixis.

is the PT winning deck the kind of deck that can win despite the field being prepared for it? Seems like it'll have a big bullseye on it. I'm trying to decide if I'll attend SCG Providence this weekend and, if so, which deck to run.

Yes, but it all depends how generous the wedding guests are. If they fund the honeymoon and I can avoid putting anything on a credit card, I can swing the LV trip with cash.
