josh silvestri could always have not said "look who is making fun of you in a place you can't see and would otherwise be fine without knowing" but apparantly those bad jokes were hilarious to him to the extent that he had to come here and name drop LP style

several of the greatest sites and gimmicks online are founded under the presumption that people are willing to give other people money for good and bad and no reasons at all
what retardation abounds behind the scenes of that facebook conversation, i shudder to imagine being at a party with those guys

I used to be exactly the type of person in that thread.
Do you think there are magic players who are only popular or famous because they're in some old boy's club? You're probably right. Nothing in life is a meritocracy. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how many warm bodies you can convince to give you money. You give up a lot more being concerned with haters than you gain.

I'm flattered and insulted at the same time. When I saw Martells's post today (brought to my attention from a good Magic playing friend), I laughed. I kinda felt that in the back of my mind that it was directed at me, but I ignored it. It actually is funny. But now that it is confirmed that it is directed at me makes me feel...I dunno. I highly respect Martell. I've rooted for him and I love his writing style. He's an excellent Magic player.
I guess it's just the realization that once you become thrust into the public eye, people will say all kinds of things. I wish I could wear the bulletproof vest and not completely give a fuck, but it's not that simple. The thing is, I cannot let it bring me down. And I won't. And I refuse to get angry. It's just a tough pill to swallow because this is new to me.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.

I wouldn't care about mockery for the simple reason that nigga's stream for money. It's literally people giving that shit away so they can watch you play magic.
That, and pro sports is a thing. Being a sports fan is like being in an abusive relationship. You have your time, money, and emotions invested into something that gives no tangible returns, but keeps asking for more.
At least what your doing is honest.

You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.

as a person who's been a target of 4chan and paid literally 0 fucks to it, pay them no mind.
if someone says something to you IRL, tell them to fuck off.
they're jealous no one is giving them free money and attention, forgetting that literally that is most of their magic career outside of actually playing the game.

well, IF you start feeling too bad, you could edit your page to something short and sweet with a disclaimer that it was meant for people you know to pool their resources for you
or you could cut your losses with the 350, close the campaign and sell some unneeded mtg shit to fund the trip
OR you could just leave it there and not give any fucks what fat fuckers like tom salty martell have to say

Khaos your gofundme was excellently written. It's pretty much perfect. It's just a shame that to maximize the money you'll get, you really do have to alienate the hardcore mtg-playing peers. The most notable, concrete example is the sentence "It's something I'm good at."Damn, well. I dunno what to say. Some of that is legitimately funny. Some of it's harsh. I guess when I show up in Vegas they can say something to me?
This isn't a scam. Maybe I could've wrote this better? Fuck....
You need this line because you need to show - in a short sweet to-the-point way - that you can actually do well. This isn't just a vacation. At the same time, it implies to people are who genuinely good at the game that supporting you means donators aren't supporting them (in some make-believe universe where they are likable people), who feel they are more than just "good" at the game.
Other examples are things like "ohh this guy has a picture with brad nelson? He must be sooo in-the-know (sarcasm)". At the same time, you attach yourself to a known figure which can only be good.

also don't take my "just as panhandly as you" comment as a slight. no one is holding a gun to anyone's head w/ your donation link and saying you have to donate. you don't have a picture of you with a shaved head in a wheelchair trying to elicit some emotional response. there's no coercion going on here. it's just like the donate button at the bottom of a stream, albeit you're not streaming anything w/ the gofundme link (alternate option for funding, tho, streaming as rick grimes, give people some entertainment before and not during or after the event, to add upfront value to your campaign).

I've already opted for Kait's 3rd suggestion. I've come too far now to give up. I could edit the post further. I've spent the last 2 days finishing up the first part of the Burn Primer with photo and windstrider, which is time I could've taken to further refine what I need to say in the fundraiser.
I will revisit the post in time. And I'm not going to stress over it any further. There's been too many positives that have come from this in the last few days and I'm not going to throw that all away based on the opinions of people who don't truly matter. I know who my real friends are.

a good portion of the pro community literally shits onto a keyboard, sends an email over to *site they write for* and then receives a check for it.
to claim anyone is entitled for asking to have a "face" show up at a MTG event, it's truly the pot calling the kettle black if you take an objective look at it.
i am ranting angrily now instead of offering constructive views on the topic at hand and i'm going to take a step away from my keyboard instead.

Don't apologize for ranting angrily. You make a lot of sense, man.a good portion of the pro community literally shits onto a keyboard, sends an email over to *site they write for* and then receives a check for it.

Here's my bad version. I'm in love with Phoenix too much to let her down. Never gonna give her up, and all that jazz...Man Khaos, I say fuck that noise.
Moving on.
Do you have a link to the Ben Stark special?

I never played a true Game 2 tonight. I just wanted to test the Game 1 aspect. With that said, I'm still pretty high on the flier plan postboard. Powerful cards are powerful.

That's the hard part of all this. I respect his game play. I respect his deckbuilding and meta analysis. His articles are top notch.Tom Martel is a good writer and skilled player, he just turns into a fedora wearing neckbeard when he enters a comment section. It's a real bad look.
Apparently, he's a different person behind closed doors.

It's the effects of perceived anonymity. If he spent 2-3 seconds talking to you irl about want to go to see friends and Vegas but can't afford it blah blah, I'm sure he'd not shit on you/perceive it differently... I think most decent humans would. But removed from context, the veil of immune and invincibility, and with a bunch of other "names" and friends dog piling, "what's the harm of joining in the point and laugh," the good man says to himself.
It's an immaturity that runs through... I would wager most magic players and nerds in general. Even usually mature people fall sometimes.

And that's the truth, Cole. If he knew me for even a second, I doubt he would go that low. The internet gives him that perceived bulletproof vest and he's running with it. It makes me think less of him. He's a smart guy. He wins at Magic. It's sad that he stoops that low. Is he threatened or something? I dunno.
