Big fucking spoiler.

Except in the books, Robb is injured and then nursed back to health by Jayne Westerling at The Crag, which was one of Tywin's bannermen in the West. She comforts him after he learns that Theon killed his brothers. After that, they sleep together and he makes her his Queen. This upsets Lord Frey, who takes his forces home, but leaves some of them with Roose Bolton.Tywin hints at this in a conversation with Tyrion after the Red Wedding.

Man, I can't wait to get home from work to finish watching the second season.

I may read the books now. This show is seriously addicting and I can only imagine how good the books are. The problem with the books is that there is no nudity. I love me some nudity.

By the way, do they EVER explain why they always say that winter is coming?

House words, sort of like a slogan I guess. Tony the Tiger say GREEEEEEEEEEEAT!!!! The Starks say winter is coming. That and it's also just a phrase like "bitches be crazy".
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Ah.

On a MTG related note, anybody see Patrick Sullivan's Domain list that he top 16'd with? I love it.

Well, it can mean "bad shit will happen" - which is appropriate, but it also very literally means winter is coming.

In the AGoT universe, there are two seasons: Summer and Winter - and each last for years. The current Summer when the story takes place is the longest in recorded history, which means that the upcoming Winter will also be the longest.

So, not only do you have multiple armies killing each other while putting food and shelter to the torch, and another army ready to cross over with dragons, and a new fire god wanting to make the 7 Kingdoms his own, and Wildlings preparing to invade, but you're also about to have to deal with a decade+ long Winter that will bring with it Others and snow zombies (and pale spiders as large as a horse - don't forget those).

Basically, Winter is just one more ingredient thrown into a pot that's about to boil over and GRRM doesn't want anyone to forget about it.

g'morning everybody.

Self - I'm sorry to see you parting with your collection - I think we all know what that's like to a degree. But it sounds like you're focusing on the important things. There were a few things on your list I'd be interested in - I'll shoot you a PM.
Thanks. It's been rough lately. I guess it's true when they say, "When it rains, it pours." Turns out that I'm not going to sell every single card I own. I'll still have my Dos Rakis, Modern Gruul, and EDH decks. I'm just selling off a large chunk of my collection.

I really need to get caught up on AGoT...I haven't had time to read the books and I've only made it through season 1. Lagging behind the clan...

So this morning I took off after work to go by my nephew's because being the cool guy he is, he's pulled older cards for me by some of the artists that will be at Spectrum Live so that my son and I can get them signed. Nothing outrageous, primarily commons representative of the work of these guys. He hands me the box of cards and says "Oh--your birthday card is in there...I hope you'll understand why I didn't sign it.

But yeah, there's so much more content to the books that it would be nearly impossible to squeeze into the show - much of it completely behind the scenes and merely hinted at.

Warning: these are some mind-blowing spoilers.

Like, is Jon Snow really Ned's bastard son?

Maybe. Or maybe he's the actual heir to the Iron Throne...
Is Stannis Baratheon really "The Prince that was Promised?

Almost certainly not - that's probs Jon Snow too.
Tyrion Lannister is - by far - the best Lannister, right?

Sure... if he is a Lannister.
Poor, poor dead Syrio...

Is possibly not dead, and is theorized to also be the Faceless Man Jaqen H'ghar
Why did all the dragons die out?

Magic related stuff.

Been doing some standard testing this week and been paying attention to opens and modo daily's(DGM finally hit). Conclusions:

Dega midrange got a shot in the arm with Sire of insanity. That deck is just all the best cards from 2-7 mana. Still a bit inconsistent, but incredibly powerful.

Jund and Junk are the two best decks, but that barely means anything. They are enough better then everything else to be recognized as such, but they can be beaten. As far as power level and consistency go though, they are the top.

If you play naya blitz, just play all creatures. This isn't really new, just something I thought I'd share. Searing spear, while reach, really just lowers your consistency of keepable hands.

Esper is a viable control deck. Far//Away and Aetherling are REALLY good, warped physique is an excellent removal spell, and I personally love Pilfered Plans as a card. It's been a while
since I've had fun with pure control in standard.

R/x agro is tearing up modo. I think it's taken up half of the top 8 slots of all the premier events' I've seen so far. Don't know if this is representative of the archetype being strong or over represented as I haven't tested with it much myself(Think I'm done playing red without 5 drops for a while).

Bant Aura's is a viable deck if you like playing craps. It's a very good deck if you want to try and win a tourney by playing very little Magic the Gathering. I think it's to fragile myself however and the sideboard is...mediocre at best.

UWR Flash is still very good. Probably the closest deck to Junk/Jund in terms of power and one of the better options for players looking to win a PTQ since it's fairly difficult to play against.

Bant Flash. Haven't tested this as much as I should, but Armada Wurm has pseudo broken interactions with Augur of Bolas and Snapcaster mage so I'd have this deck on my watchlist.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Losing to midrange decks repeatedly after watching them drop Arbor Elf and Avacyn's Pilgrim out the wazoo really makes me want Electrickery in my sideboard.

That and it's also decent in Naya Blitz matchups.

What lands? Shocks? Fetches? It's usually a good idea to trade standard for eternal staples. Of course, that's if you're fairly certain the standard card will go down either because it's all hype or it's soon to rotate.

Personally I can't see VoR staying at $30 or higher. I need to test with and against it more, but I feel that there are just too many ways around it. It's easy to make it a 2-for-1, but standard isn't killed by a 2-for-1 as much these days as it used to be. Everybody knows Pillar obviously gets it, but there are other ways around it too. The token it leaves behind is only scary if your opponent has an army, at which point you needed answers
anyway.

It's obviously a good card, but I just don't see it being amazing or worth more than Snapcaster. But that's probably why I'm still just mediocre at this game.

@ RT - you sir, are a wizard. My mind is blown and now I must seek out these books and read them...

And now I'm about to go plow through some more GoT....

I can't quit you guys. That's the one and only Brokeback Mountain reference I will make... ever.

What can I say? For all my faults, my wife still loves me and wants to see me happy. I'm lucky to have found her. I think I'll keep her. ;-) Of course, I'm still selling off a huge chunk of my collection. I'll probably be selling about $2000 worth of cards over the next week or two. But my Dos Rakis deck is not going to be dismantled. In fact, while I'm selling my
cards, I will also trade for the remaining 3 Godless Shrine that I need. I played it the other day at my LGS (same day my truck got towed :flame: ) and it just demolishes everything else.

So I'm working on a common/uncommons cube as something to screw around with when we don't feel like playing any tryhard formats. Any particular interactions/cards I should include?

I'm jamming Slivers in but only because of M14 and the fact that at least 1 person will fall for that trap every time we draft.

Yes but that's just one deck. As far as I can tell it has yet to have much of an impact in standard, and isn't that where most cards legal in the format get their prices?

I'm actually considering just taking out ALL of my spells and running a list full of dudes. There are some times where I don't have the green mana open for Rancor, and when I do and I'm playing Uxx with mana open I usually leave it in my hand for fear of being 2-for-1d when he's been representing bounce. Searing Spear is fine but if I could just play more dudes I would never need to worry about removing creatures. It's just something I'm going to test.

I've been testing a GR build with tons of ramp and fatties and I
love what it does. I'm just not sure if it's at all viable in a Rites-heavy meta since it doesn't have any way to deal with Angel of Serenity short of Plummet.

-3 rancor -1 ash zealot

+4 Lightning mauler

that's where I'm at right now. Could also cut more ash zealots for +2 brimstone volley +1 reckoner.

it would have pyreheart wolves in the side to augment the weaker creature base.

I don't feel like I get green screwed more often than a 3 color deck gets it, aka pretty consistent. G/r is greedier with DOUBLE red costs in hellrider/hellkite with... 8 duals 5 mountains 13 sources?

8 duals, 1 temple garden, 1 guildgate+4 BTE= 14 green sources and I only need to see one per game.

Cutting ash zealots+rancor... it just feels so wrong.

UWr is always going to be a gross match-up, if youre running more dudes and less rancors youll just get supreme verdict for them to get 2-1s instead of maybe them having a spear when you throw down rancor (and if youre on the play its not likely if you rancor your 1 drop.) Also zealots+rancor makes jund easymode, and it makes junk rites
a HELLUVA lot easier IMO. Garruk not being able to have many targets is legitimate too.

As is making BTE's body even sexier

I see the merits of LM don't get me wrong. Goin fast is p. good, part of a nut draw. He's just insane with BTE and on t2...pretty specific. He's also just "ok" if hasting out a reckoner, because that means he's not doing anything himself T2. I just think Rancor is good with ANY creature you have (save hellrider) INSANE with Zealot, p.good on reckoner, etc.

TLDR:
Rancor is pretty bad against UWr Flash. But LM doesn't really fix that match-up either (dies to augur, verdict).
aka I think Rancor is good. But I don't see anyone playing it.

Note: I'm also ignoring that Rancor is bad G1 against mirror, because you have less bodies for them to remove/2-1 with 4 spears and shit. But if you had LM instead and you side in elecktrickeries its the same thing, whereas you can 1-1 swap with VS and be in a much better position without diluting your threats.

Sorry, phone fail. Ruric Thar for AoS?
Not convinced... Rites just has such and intimidating board presence the time AoS resolves. Rhey can just double block ruric with 2 beast tokens a thrag and something, w/e. Play a fiend hunter, play another AoS for Ruric...

I think the only answer GR has for being weak to air is to smash harder and faster than the fliers can, having plenty of ground seals in the SB and going under AoS. (ramp into hellrider is still no joke, as is bonfiring their dorks)

also I think Zeman posted a GR list with "just dudes" but he had 4 spears. It had all the usual players, 22 land, 4 hellriders, NO FLINTHOOF, zealots and LM and 2 pyreheart wolves. Only green was for GCR. Didn't try out, because boars are too good against UWr for me, but mono-r splash bloodrush could be good now and maybe even have the lone Pyrewild for some recursive action.

I wouldn't drop spears now more then ever against fiend hunters, augurs, VNH in SB of jund, gloom surgeon in SB of aristocrats, spearing a reckoner when you have to (sometimes you just gotta)

Sorry, was having a hard time quoting on the phone. The suggestion was purely
in response to the proposed list of only dudes and a high curve. If you're going to a high curve in GR colors, and you're already intending to only play creatures, Ruric seems like a good inclusion with a side effect benefit that he interacts favorably with AoS.
