I grew out my beard to Castaway levels to see if it looked good, but it was terrible. All the hairs get curly and stiff, so I went back to the usual hipster stubble beard.
so you went from a Chris VanMeter neckbeard to a normal fat nerd neckbeard

True. Such adversity.

Thankfully I'm somewhat improved from the terrible player I was six months ago.

in pro tour testing, pro mtg players determined black red is the worst color combination in 2015 limited

in FoS, it was determined to be the strongest

At 20, you care what other people think of you.
At 40, you stop caring what other people think of you.
At 60, you realize no one was thinking of you to begin with.

I haven't seen any explanation why r/b is the worst combination. I just remember the sentence "we drafted r/b decks that looked fantastic and then played horribly, and G/W decks that looked horrible but played very well", or something like that. I still don't see any reason not to draft red/black because the individual card quality is the highest.... except for triplicate spirits so you must have one or two -1-1 to all nonblack creatures.

I guess g/w can be nuts when you have awesome starts with raise the alarm and start convoke spells by turn 3-4 . It is probably the most powerful combination when you have the nuts .... but r/b looks more solid in general to me.

RB has no synergy and low creature quality, it pales in comparison to GW and the other combos

doing good in a sealed pre release doesn't make it a good limited combination going forward

Of course the colors were quite open... and of course the whole discussion is not very useful since forcing is probably a bad idea and one should just draft what is open. But i don't think there is any valid reason to actively avoid r/b .

Anyone here ever struggle with knowing how good they are? I used to know exactly how good I was but not anymore. I think that means I'm getting better but idk. Like this weekend, I felt my play was overall mediocre, but I had my best finish in a fairly stacked event (multiple platinum and gold pros along with tons of old school vets).

Play more. Especially online.

I'm serious. I went through this about a month ago. I've learned to be a little bit more honest with myself and less dismissive. But when I know something now, I fucking know it.

Also, start keeping paper records of your games. I started doing that as of Saturday with my online testing for the PTQ. It's helped me assess my play better with honest
results.

Really, LP, this is all about breaking through a play barrier. Escaping a plateau, if you will.
