Undoubtedly, their restrictions are a sign of either their inadequacies as players or that they really want to focus on having fun and neat interactions and their way of controlling that aspect in multiplayer.
Whatever the case, the rules are set. If you want to play there, you gotta roll with it. It's just like playing home games in poker. Good players learn how to thrive in weird environments.
Suga made a good point : bring multiple decks. I have my 1v1 Kaalia for rape face action, Nin for multiplayer shenanigans and back pocket combo, and Jaya for multiplayer fairness and to spread the gospel of Mono Red. Each have their roles, their fun levels, and fair levels. Gotta be versatile, son.

That's goal #2. I've only seriously been playing EDH for a few months. The one deck is all I have for now.

Also, speaking from experience, Stax effects suck the fun out of a game. Especially when as bad player can't escape their own lock. While the table dicks around, the Stax player fumbles around trying to do something. It's. So. Boring.

The only stax deck I've seen around here that works around its own lock is Mishra. I'm 99% certain that they all hate stax decks because of that guy.

Just started Attack on Titan. It's the first anime I've watched in 8 years. Thoughts: listening to everything in Japanese is a bit weird, the spastic weather effects are strange, same with the super intense facial expressions, but overall the art style is fantastic and the story rocks.
Man is it heavy, though. I watched for about three hours, and about two hours later it just hit me how much fucked up shit happened. People getting eaten because larger things
think it's fun? That whole thing where they tried to kidnap Mikasa? That shit us not okay.

@People who think EDH combos are overrated or people who don't like them:
I like battlecruiser Magic as much as the next guy, but I also understand that decks need win conditions, especially in a singleton format. I don't mind combos that win the game, especially if they're ones you can just be like "Oops, I win?" Especially if they're wacky. I don't mind losing to infinite mana +
Laboratory Maniac + [card]Blue Sun's Zenith[/card]. I'm okay with the mono black player assembling the
Exquisite Blood Sanguine Bond tron.
Things I don't like are things like
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher +
Grave Pact. Why? Because it doesn't actually win, it just means that nobody gets to play creatures anymore. Synergy is fine, but when you turn off
entire archetypes with gimmicky non-wincon combos, you're just being the fun police, you aren't actually playing Magic.
I'm usually pretty annoyed by people who just see a commander and try and pretend like you're in some cookie cutter build. My Azami deck isn't the mono blue combos deck, but as soon as anybody sees her, they automatically assume that to be the case, which is very annoying. Same goes for people who try and build fun Riku decks, or Grand Arbiter decks. Just because there is a degenerate version of the deck doesn't mean
every version is degenerate.

Attack on Titan is one of the better action/drama anime's to be released in recent years. There's also a lot of subtlety, where if you pay attention/think about what's happening you can tell there's more going on than it initially leads on.

Top 16'd a Sealed PTQ where my only rare was Mindreaver. One day I will open a decent pool. I have now played in four sealed events without opening a playable Mythic or 23 playable cards in any colour combination. Character building I suppose.

UB Control.
UB and RW are the decks that need the least archetype specific cards to be playable, so if your pool doesn't cleanly lead you in a direction, then try building those.

RW is probably the worse sealed combo since unless you have the nuts, your playing a bad draft deck.
In other news, top 4'd a 1k today with devotion red. Competitive REL win% dropped below 80% with the deck, but it's still, the bRED earner.

I played in a draft the other day with 6 Akroan Skyguard, 4 Triton Tactics, a Fabled Hero, and literally every other trick I could have wanted.
That deck was so sweet.

He's right that it has the potential to be awful. You need a certain core of cards to make it work and sometimes you don't get them, so it isn't a safe rule of thumb to say "Just fall back on this archetype." You can't really play it unless you get the 1
and 2s.

Or if your tricks end up not being there, you can't get away with it either, although it's a little easier if you get mana fixing since you can just force some of the green tricks.

So what's better, American or Bant control? I don't know why, but I kinda want to jump onto the control wagon for a while.
I'm leaning towards American only because of Counterflux.
