hannes rolled a sneak check
And apparently he rolled a natural 20, while I rolled a natural 1 on my Perception check to catch him. =/

Hannes isn't "absent" from the site. Right now, he's going through some real-life transitions I am, quite literally, NOT at liberty to divulge other than what is going on for him takes far more precedence over a site dedicated to Magic: the Gathering. He has been working on the site in his very little spare time, but he is still around.

As for the malware issue, Chrome is currently blocking the site, and I won't be surprised if Firefox and IE are doing the same. Truth be told, it's not a site that would be targeted under normal circumstances by a group of hackers. This has the hallmarks of a bunch of children, and possibly people who were banned during the recent sweep.
Did you really register here to call us children and
insinuate we're launching malware attacks?

lol we told sally about a leak to do with hacking, you think we plan these things? I know absolutely squat about hacking and lack in a lot of computer knowledge. We don't want to hack anyone or anything, we just want to have our own site.

And its not just us complaining about Hannes, almost every high up staff member will tell you they wish he dropped in more. Does anyone remember the last time they saw a new post on the forums he owns?

How is this different from being absent from the Site?

So I today was at work today on a different computer as normal (as mine was removed to be reformatted from a previous infection from here). I figured "hey, I'm done Friday anyway, I might as well check it out." Went to MTGS. No other sites. Microsoft Forefront immediately pops up and says it detected a trojan. Even without ads, MTGS is still distributing malware. Not sure how, or why, but it is. It is not happening on my computer at home. Only happens on IE. I am going to try it on another laptop that I don't use with IE to see what happens.

Medfos.b is the trojan that is installed.

The default forum style had malicious code injected into it. We will have it fixed as soon as possible, but for the near future, you should stick to using any style other than "Default". The forum-wide change to "Light" was the simplest way to immediately remove user exposure to the malicious script.

I can change it to any of the others, but for now the normal colour scheme is off limits.

I've forced the forum style to green. Hopefully it's a little less hard on the eyes, but the downside is that you all won't be able to change off of it. Enough users were manually set to "Default" that we'd be leaving too many people vulnerable without forcing the change. My apologies to those who were already using unaffected skins.

So someone had the ability to gain backend access and put script into the background of the forum that *does something malicious* ? Do I have that right?

Did anyone ever read the Langoliers by Stephen King? What you're describing sounds like the premise of that story

Posted: Wed Dec 05, 2012 7:51 pm
by Second Harkius
Two creatures, followed by hundreds more, emerge from the forest and head for the plane, consuming everything in their paths. They are described as large dark beach ball-like monsters expanding and contracting with semicircular caves as mouths and gnashing blurring, knife-like, teeth leaving trails of black nothingness in their wake.

In the plane, Bob offers the idea that the Langoliers are the timekeepers of eternity, that their purpose is to clean up what is left of the past by eating it.

if this were a movie or tv show, i would follow up that story by saying "have you ever heard of" and then fart loudly, but since this isn't that, i'm doing the same while typing.

Normally, when I click the "Search this Thread" button, the dropdown has an option for searching by post content or by username, and now the username box has completely disappeared, leaving only the search by post content box.

the thought of lines of mtgs code being eaten by pacman is a funny mental analogy for this situation my mind has devised.

it's unfortunate that MTGS is being attacked and its caretakers have no backend access to attempt to stymie it.

Tell me this if the default skin is infected , how can the other skins not be?
