Eggs was just one of those decks that wasn't fun to play against and - unless you have a very specific personality - wasn't very fun to play either.

Can you goldfish a win faster than I can goldfish a win?
I fucking love Second Breakfast, and even I got tired of playing(and winning) with that deck after about two FNMs.

I'm glad they banned eggs. Deck was dumb to play and play against.

I certainly don't hate that it's gone, or, at least, that it has to change to a less consistent list.

Eggs wasn't really that good of a deck anyway. It was just "better" than everything else they hadn't already banned into oblivion.

I swear they want the damned format to just be easily playable by small children.

I'll be honest, I'm really losing interest in Magic over the past few sets. I am not horribly interested in a game where we're just mashing creatures into each other, if I wanted to do that there are plenty of other games I could be playing. That's the direction they're going, and it leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth. Maybe I'll take up poker again instead.

I remeber back when you could play spells that disrupt your opponent's ability to cast theirs.

Those were the days.

Play some BYOS. It's not completely broken, but there are some powerful and fun combos and you get to play with decks/strategies that are totally viable even though they haven't been competitive in any other constructed format in forever.

WCT is still fucking painful to read:

"My wife caught me yanking it and now our marriage is in shambles!"

Are there any 'rules' to BYOS?

1 Core Set - 5th Edition and up
2 Blocks - Ice Age and up
"Official" Ban List - any card banned or restricted in Legacy, Vintage, or Block - though that can be changed (for example, Cursed Scroll is hardly ban worthy).

Each player can pick the core set/blocks they want to use, or they're predetermined?

Either way, sounds awesome.

Everyone picks their own Core set + 2 blocks.

This seems fun. Don't know if the playerbase around here has a large enough collection to do it, but it'd be awesome.

Your thanks and have thanked are in equilibrium. You have found balance, young grasshopper.

Anyone here ever used OpenNMS?

So I'm looking at all of these spoilers and find myself wondering if R/x aggro decks will still be competitive after DM release. It already seems like the cards are stacked against us in the current meta with how dominant Junk Rites has become and the increased presence of midrange and UWR control decks. Wat do?!?!

Junk Rites is a good matchup if you want it to be...?

First of all, happy birthday to our Glorious Leader.

Won $110 at the casino yesterday. Not baller status or anything, but better than losing.

Also ordered tons of cards last night, so once that all arrives I should be able to create just about any deck I want. Trying to chose from Junk rites, Aristocrats Act 2, or Prime Speaker Bant. Also thinking of Team America midrange, but that seems to be the control deck of choice at my LGS. Also there is an SCG IQ next month I might attend, would be first time going to anything like that so I kind of want to pick a deck and run with it up until that. Only one guy at my LGS is running the Junk Rites deck so I won't get a ton of practice against it.
If you ever need suggestions about Prime Speaker Bant and
its matchup, I'd be glad to answer you (I've got some experience with SB too now).

Also, I'm really, really happy about the ban of Second Sunrise. I hated Eggs. And I can say that the splash of white for Jund is performing over my expectations. I like more and more that build.

Can you tell me how the Prime Speaker Bant versus Junk Rites matchup plays out. That was the only game I lost at the GPT and we really only played Game 1. I thought I was doing fine when I had him at 4 life, then all of a sudden he has more angel of serenity's then me, starts exiling mine, then proceeds to draw 2 million cards.

R/x aggro will continue to do its own thing. Sure the other decks get new toys and we don't, but the changes are marginal at best and we will continue to burn people's faces off.

Zeman, you should remove all your content from the r/x subforum. The cesspool of posters don't do it any justice at all.

Regarding eggs being banned, I am extremely happy. It frees up a lot of narrow sideboard cards, and allows fair decks to be played
freely. Also, allows people to actually play magic and hopefully increase the number of people playing modern. I can foresee goyf becoming even more popular now.

Well, I think it's a tough matchup for both sides: early game, Junk is much more stronger, but if Bant stabilize, then it's very hard to lose. We play 3 Selesnya Charm and 3 Azorius Charm, so we don't mind about sudden Behemoth and Angel of Serenity. Moreover, we have our own Angels to exile Rite's targets and Detention Sphere. With Wolf Run (now I have to test Gavony Township) our Resto Angels can be huge threats.
And Supreme Verdict does always his job. So, game 1 Junk should rush as fast as possible to win.

Game 2 and 3 is almost the same story. Junk has Acidic Slime to slow us down, but we have access to RiP + Jace, Memory Adept. I've found that this combination is terrific for Junk, and it's easy to drop since we have a huge draw engine with Zegana and Sphinx's Revelation. Personally vs Junk I run also 2x Terminus, but the general consensus is for 2x Verdict MB and 2x SB. I'd never play such a build since Bant Auras and Aggro is a strong presence at my LGS, so I use 3 Verdict in main and 2 Terminus in side.

All the games I've lost vs Junk was because they've rushed me or because I draw more lands than everything else I have at disposal or my 3 RiP + 2 Jace were in the lower half of my deck.

It also depends on the version of Prime Speaker Bant used. If it's the Wolf Run's one, you can Slime his red sources and be a little safer, but the new ones with the classic U/W/G shell needs just to be
crippled as soon as possible since they are more solid (they don't rely on 2 lands as main win condition).

Also, Far//Away is a pretty sweet card. From early testing/games, it can do some work.

Other notes:

VoR Is pretty nuts, Savageborn Hydra is weak, and sin collector is my favorite card in the set by a mile

My observations: Top notch.

Well it didn't even take long for the Rx aggro form to turn to shit. We've been here for what a month?

As for Prime Speaker bant, I've heard its worst matchup is esper control. What about American control/midrange? That's the control deck of choice at my LGS and a few people play it. How does it fair against that?

Or in a deck with GCR/other pumps; then DS is a damage multiplier, just as it is with Hound. My son reminded me of that this weekend...Hound wearing VS, Bloodrush GCR, swing for 16 trample. DS is anything but irrelevant in a GR build. ;-)

James, let me know if you have the cards for my Boros list and if you're willing to toy around with me on MODO for a bit with it. I haven't really been able to get out of the house and actually PLAY Magic in well over a month, so yeah, I really need to do more testing and Cockatrice is rubbish.

First off, happy birthday to the FoS people who have had recent ones (pyreheart, lorddax, and RT). I'm a bit surprised at the number of April birthdays around here. My birthday was on the 15th (but I tend to keep personal info off of public profiles, so that's why no one knew).
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this...I know that the relationship has no implied causality, but it raises some eerie questions about the base philosophies behind astrology. And add me to the April list...next Monday for me. I am quite happy to share my birth month with such a distinguished crowd of rowdies. :D
