Shrine also has versatility. Not only does it signal to the control player that the end is nigh, it can also be used to kill pro-red things or just really big creatures. It adds inevitability to the deck. It has perfect synergy with the deck. While you are exhausting your resources to control the board, it builds and builds until you're able to just win on the spot.
I need to think of it as less of a threat, and more of an insurance policy.
Dude, that is pure fucking wisdom! I like your style.

I've actually had awhile to think about it while getting my 5k in and I'm on board now. I think if the deck is loaded with enough creature threats that have to be answered VD becomes much better. Between Lavamancer, Guide, Eidolon, and VD they're going to take a lot of damage, and even if they kill our VD manually we have a lot of other threats ready to come swinging.
Consider me convinced.

My multiple, lengthy, and crude posts are no match for LP's eloquent and masterful use of the word 'nigga'.
Nigga. The word that launched a thousand Vexing Devils.

I'm still unsure myself, I've been doing stuff and it's been working OK, but I'm not sure if it's 100% right.
That, and it's generally not a great idea to take someone's deck and change cards without a bunch of games under your belt, but yolo pillar of flames, etc.
Wouldn't be surprised if the forked bolts are just better then 2 pillars main 80% of the time since the only place where you're getting real gains is vs. Pod which is potentially not as big an issue if either A) you don't play against that many pod decks or B) people switch to LSV and Wraptors "angel" pod which cuts the melira combo and more importantly all but 1 finks for more broadly disruptive cards like Decay/thoughtseize/sin collector.
Tote's don't feel bad about running searing blood over blaze though. I could be WAY wrong on that, but I've been happy with it so far; no zoo opponents etc.

A lot of the boarding though for me at least has been -4 devil/blood, + spellbomb then cutting whatever shitty cards you have in the matchup for your "real" board cards like moon, dismember depending on the matchup. I'm leaving for SCG Vegas soon, but I'm willing to discuss sideboarding with anyone who brings it up with the corollary that they bring up the matchup as opposed to me just listing what I'd do for x billion archetypes all at once.

I'll give it a shot (Heal's 75)
vs UWr (Restoration / Kiki) <-- No.7 on Modo
In:
2 Blood Moon
2 Dismember
4 Pyrite Spellbomb
Out:
4 Grim Lavamancer
4 Searing Blaze
Splinter Twin <-- No 3 on MODO
In:
2 Dismember
4 Pyrite Spellbomb
Out:
2 Forked Bolt
4 Searing Blaze
Searing hits a few cards but usually requires work so I've opted too cut it, Fork is ok... but the instant speed nature of Bomb is critical.
Melira Pod <-- No 1 on modo, aka pray.MU
In:
2 Smash to Smithereens
2 Blood Moon
2 Dismember
2 Relic of Progenitus
Out:
4 Goblin Guide
4 Vexing Devil
I personally don't like Relic, Blood Moon and Smash but I don't many other options.
Affinity <-- No.4
Out
4 Goblin Guide
4 Molten Rain
In
4 Pyrite Spellbomb
2 Smash to Smithereens
1 Shattering Spree
1 Dismember
Goblin Guide seems like a card which gets outclassed really fast.
Note: I havn't touched the list yet, and my experience with modern can date back by months (so I'm out of the loop).

After some testing, I see the merits of searing blaze. You can topdeck and target a goyf without killing it for your final 3 points. That's VERY relevant.

Block with fanatic, sac?
Depending on the matchup depends on how much(if any) artifact removal spells I'm boarding in.
You can also two for one yourself by blocking and killing your own creature if they're close to burn range.

Shattering Blow?

Maindeck Molten Rain ought to be a good way to keep them off a fast Wurmcoil Engine. Otherwise it's pretty hard to win through. Shattering Blow is probably your best bet if you want a direct answer to it.

I ran it in UR Delver for a little bit in response to a lot of people playing blue Tron at my LGS that night. The feels when you cast it on a Wurmcoil Engine cannot be described.

I'm really enjoying playing this deck! I'm aware of the wisdom of running a list 'as is' before tweaking I've been running Pillar since it was first suggested in the thread and I like it, a lot I also like having the 3rd and 4th in the SB over the Dragon's Claw though I'm not sure this is optimal, especially given how much Red/Burn gets played on MTGO (even if it doesn't place I see it a lot).
Heal says that Molten Rain (UWR Control) and Rift Bolt (pressure Vs Twin though he say's it's not that good) are the flex slots in the deck. So far I've found Molten Rain amazing and Rift Bolt somewhat underwhelming. I ran LP's list with Flame Javelin and really liked it
I also
tried Magus Of The Moon MD MD as per LP's suggestion. I found 3 copies was enough but although the card good I'd be hesitant to change from Heal's set up based on my own comparatively few games. For ease of reference here's the list again
Heal's RDW with Pillar
[deck]RDW[/deck]
WIP SB Plan for Top 12 MTGO decks (75%
of the meta) - thanks to MDU for your posts, I've referred to them a lot and unsurprisingly I agree with 99% I've given my reasonings, mostly and I've expanded the list of match ups. I still consider myself a Modern newbie so feedback is VERY welcome guys
Melira Pod
IN
+2 Smash To Smithereens
+2 Dismember OUT
-4 Vexing Devil
I like Guide as I like to put some pressure on their life total while I'm killing everything I don't like Blood Moon here - Pod can be cast with Phyrexian mana anyway. I'm not sure about Dismember MDU, I assume it is for Linvala, Angel
and Archangel? Edited, thanks Khaos
Jund
IN
+2 Relic Of Progenitus
+2 Dismember? for Goyf
+2 Blood Moon? good but they have Decay, Pulse and discard OUT
-4 Searing Blaze? few targets, don't want it sitting in hand
-2 Pillar Of Flame? few targets
I like MD Flame Javelin for Courser - I have issues with Courser
Splinter Twin
IN
+2 Dismember
+4 Pyrite SpellBomb OUT
-2 Pillar Of Flame
-4 Searing Blaze?
I like MD Flame Javelin here, again
Affinity
IN
+2 Smash to Smithereens
+1 Shattering Spree
+4 Pyrite Spellbomb
+1 Dismember OUT
-4 Goblin Guide - " Goblin Guide seems like a card which gets outclassed really fast." MDU's reasoning seems valid here
-4 Molten Rain - seems less good with Opals/Drums/Citadels and the fact that they need very little mana
UR Delver
IN
+4 Pyrite Spellbomb OUT
-4 Molten Rain
Scapeshift
IN
+2 Blood Moon OUT
-2 Pillar Of Flame?
RG Tron/U Tron
IN
+2 Smash To Smithereens
+1 Shattering Spree
+2 Blood Moon OUT
-2 Pillar Of Flame - no targets Vs GR, better Vs U
-3 ? Not sure here - Shrine seems slow, Searing
Blaze isn't great Vs GR, Grim seems poor Vs GR too ...
UWR Control/UW Control
IN
+2 Blood Moon
+4 Pyrite Spellbomb
+2 Dismember OUT
-4 Grim Lavamancer - slow
-4 Searing Blaze - few targets
MD Flame Javelin for Angel/Wall?
Burn
IN
+2 Dragon's Claw OUT
-2 Pillar Of Flame/Molten Rain if Mono R
Storm
IN
+2 Dragon's Claw
+2 Relic Of Progenitus OUT
-4 Searing Blaze
The other 25% - decks of note - Hatebears/Faeries/Merfolk/Blue Moon/Dead Guy Ale/Living End/Ad Nauseum/Bogles/Amulet Of Vigor/Zoo/Soul Sisters/Infect/BW Tokens/ Gifts Ungiven ... If anyone has anything to add about any of these please do!

Still haven played the list yet but I do like reading these SB'ing plans and deck performance opinions - I'm still undecided if I just want too this or Revel in Burn.
Since I havn't play the list nor have I played Modern in awhile you shouldn't give my comment much weight BUT I personally believe cutting Grim vs Twins is a mistake, I also think Jund is a bad MU not really sure how too improve it (I might try a revamped P.Sul list).

I'm probably crazy for thinking about this, but I can't shake the idea of tossing in 1-2 Stomping Ground for Destructive Revelry out of the board (substituting for Smash to Smithereens).
My mind is telling me no, but my body is telling me yes.

It honestly doesn't hurt, this isn't standard so splash away (it'll only be an issue vs other fast aggro decks like Zoo, Mirror, Burn and Affinity).

I know the risks. I've been doing it with Burn for about a year now.
Really, it's not worth the splash. I think....

It's perfectly normal among Red Mages Khaos - MDU ran it, I ran it, G0D_L1k3 is running it too It's only 1 lil Stomping Ground, what harm can it do?

SPLINTER TWIN
IN
+2 Dismember
+4 Pyrite SpellBomb
OUT
-2 Pillar Of Flame
-4 Searing Blaze?
Interesting. I played few games against Twin and was always taking out Molten Rains as it is rather slow and it's hard to color screw them. I was playing Heal's list with Forked Bolt which I left in MD so it would be easier to kill Spellskite.

I like having Molten Rains when I'm on the play. Not so much on the draw since it's a lot harder to disrupt the combo that way. Also, Molten Rain has the added bonus of not being able to be redirected to Spellskite.
FWIW, I prefer Forked Bolt in the main over other options.
