I think the LD route is probably viable in a hatebears deck because your games go longer (usually 6-8 turns right?); the RW landfall deck is a 3-4 turn kill deck, so I don't know how significant an advantage the LD gets compared to more aggressive cards. Worth thinking about of course, and yeah, the interaction with Flagstones is very nice (and all the fetches ofc).
Yep, I edited my post just as you typed this. I think it is less useful in your deck. It was better in zoo decks when they had bloodbraid elf.

Pyrewild Shaman 2R
Creature - Goblin Shaman
Bloodrush 1R — , Discard Pyrewild Shaman: Target attacking creature gets +3/+1 until end of turn.
Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, if Pyrewild Shaman is in your graveyard, you may pay 3. If you do, return Pyrewild Shaman to your hand.

Obrigado, good sir. Doesn't seem amazing too me ~ I don't see any current variation getting enough recursion out of the card at that cost. Kind of like a poor man's Chandras Phoenix I suppose. Still, a 3/1 isnt the worst body; but GCR is just SO MUCH better if you can make G
Re: leylines, all your nut draws are occur from creature based damage, so even if they bring them in, you're still very live. They're not a common SB card here, but I suppose if you're expecting them, you have a wealth of white options for dealing with them ~ Kami of Ancient Law seems ideal.

On another note, the Selesnya champ is disgustingly unplayable. 7cmc 5/7 that prevents damage to all your tokens. Not even sure if she's viable in limited.
EDIT:
Found this theory infographic and it actually makes sense.

So, now Emmara is a giant elf. Couldn't they have, I dunno, changed her casting cost instead?

Adam Styborski's article on Emmara desperately tries to convince people that she's good.

New spoilers are pretty cool: we got a solid little Grizzly Bear (which would have been very useful when Delver was a deck), a nice new ETB dude, and a spell that can potentially just rape an opponent out of the game.
Skylasher
Creature - Spider
Flash, Reach, Pro Blue, can't be countered
Scion of Vitu-Ghazi
Creature - Elemental
If you cast ~ from your hand, put a 1/1 white Bird creature token with flying onto the
battlefield, then populate.

Since we're whoring Modern decks, I'm thinking about rebuilding
this deck and would like some help on updating it to beat the midrange meta.
I have not played your deck, but it seems primed to beat midrange. What is your issue with that matchup?
The midrange matchup isn't bad, but I figure there has to be something more that I can do to tune for it, especially now that I don't really have to worry about storm as much.

Looks like more Fuse cards were spoiled from a supposed Chinese fat pack. None of them look particularly amazing, though.
Speaking of Fuse cards, why does Release from Catch//Release have sacrifice effects? Isn't that primarily a black ability? That seemed more appropriate as a black/white rather than red/white.

It's just all that artificial estrogen fucking with Teia's system. The Y chromosome acts in strange ways when you expose it to the batshit insanity of female sex hormones.
Wait...what's the story behind Teia? I keep seeing the use of he and she used interchangably to describe him/her/it, and this comment really piqued my interest. Sex change?
The deck is mostly a RW burn deck, so primarily, it is 4 damage to the face. However:
- your creatures can get REALLY big in this deck; steppe lynx, plated geopede and zektar can all hit for 5+; so the double strike mode is VERY relevant; zektar has trample, so you can combo off for 14 damage sometimes.
- anti-sweeper mode can be quite important against
tron or UWx control.
It does a LOT of work in this deck basically.
The cards I am a little skeptical of are actually Grim Lavamancer, Forked Bolt, Path to Exile and Shard Volley. Why?
- Lavamancer: might be too slow at the moment? Maybe not enough relevant targets? I do think he is awesome however; this deck puts a LOT of cards in the GY, and he is another easy way to answer Deathrite, Bob, Snapcaster etc.
- Forked Bolt: does what Grim Lavamancer does, but is a spell. Probably good enough for those reasons alone I think.
- Path to Exile: I think you want at least 1 maindeck, and some number in the board; the correct number is 1-3 depending on the expected meta I suppose. The thing is, apart from cards like Iona or Wurmcoil Engine, which you should be comfortable randomly losing to game 1, there arent a lot of problem creatures for you that you cannot either just burn (deathrite, bob for example) or just run over with huge landfall guys (finks, tarmo, wall of roots etc) ~ so you don't really NEED
the effect as much as a lot of aggro decks otherwise would (imo).
- Shard Volley: with as many land as this deck has, it is basically just lightning bolt 5-6, but maybe you want magma jet?
I actually don't mind Path to Exile here since it's such efficient removal AND you can do some pretty fancy things with it like cast it on one of your own creatures for a landfall trigger to get the killing blow.
I think the interesting decison is Forked Bolt vs Shard Volley. Shard Volley gives you more ways to sac Flagstones for landfall triggers, but Forked Bolt is up there in terms of efficiency.
I REALLY want to play Boros Landfall in Modern eventually, but I can't spend all that money on the required cards to run it effectively. I'm sticking with a budget mono red affinity homebrew to get me started in Modern, which I think is a good idea considering I've never even played a game in that format. For all I know I may hate it.

I don't take pity on people for having "been through shit," because we've all been through shit. I don't feel bad for Teia particularly because she's always such a cunt to everyone she interacts with, baggage or not.

Ooooh we got our red card spoiled!
I think it has potential.
You might say its "expensive"
But isn't pumping stonewright just as intensive in games where you want him?
I can see using him when he comes down to clear the way.
Next turn get in for some damage bring him back for 3.
Instead of being "out of gas" and swinging in and saccing dudes just to try to get some damage in before they stabilize, you get card advantage in the form of pump every time you can get a creature by.
With Firefist striker and Pyreheart wolf you should easily be able to get in.
This guy plays super nice with Legion loyalist too. I'd pay 5 mana ALL DAY time to make my loyalist a 4/2 first strike trampler every turn.
I think it will see play before rotation even.
Posted: Thu Apr 18, 2013 5:15 pm
by redthirst
I also think the comparison is to Stonewright as a mana sink, but I don't see it taking SW's place any time soon.
It's an arguably stronger combat trick that's harder to disrupt, but it's only useful as a mana sink if you have excess mana in twos and threes, while Stonewright will use any little bit of excess mana.
Still, though, for decks that value more resilient effects - this could be a winner.
Worth testing at least.

You know what's another resillient effect that loves pump
Hound of Griselbrand
Take a late game against decks that already can't deal with the hound.
for 5 mana you can get in for 10 or 12 (if he has rancor, well then) and get the card back. If you played hound at 4 having 5 mana isn't unreasonable?

I was under the impression if you managed to get Wild beastmaster to actually attack with ANY pump ONCE you'd already won so the recursion is useless >___>
At least that's how it worked when I played her casually. She'll never be able to exist in a meta with tragicslip T_T

Blood Crypts are only there because 1) I already have a playset and 2) extra black sources for Cranial Plating.
Wish I could get some Blood Moons for the sideboard. I feel like I want more burn, but I also feel like I need at least 24 creatures for maximum benefit with Cranial Plating and Signal Pest.

For those itching to try UR counterburn, does
Dragonshift make you consider including
Talrand, Sky Summoner? Flying is redundant but would certainly beef up your drakes. I suppose there are cheaper ways to accomplish that, though --
Dynacharge included.

Talrand is a unplayable for all the reasons Guttersnipe is imo. Same body, even harder to protect because he's 4 mana, does nothing when he comes down, etc.
