I pulled a Delver of Secrets and a Think Twice out of a random Innistrad pack today. Is Delver still a thing? I used to love that deck.

Working on Boros Landfall again; love that deck!
Modern Landfall? If it is, the deck is really fun. I'm not sure how good it is in Legacy though.

Kaze: About the only Delver deck that works in Standard is UG Delver. Even then, you'd be better off just not playing Delver.

Spoilers are pretty much limited fare...it figures that red's maze creature would be the one with the butt that dies to Spear.

EDIT: Just saw the additional spoils...Clues is no Ponder, but it might see play in Delver analogs. And Firstblade is pretty sweet for a common...certainly not something I'd mind seeing 3 of in a PR pull.

EDIT2: Urk - Just noticed that Clues is at sorcery speed...never mind.

The Red Maze thing would have been better with first strike.

Though the Maze Abomination that gives deathtouch is rather nice.

Just did and edited comment accordingly...I didn't see it because I couldn't believe they would do something so useless as putting that effect at sorcery speed.

Showing myself out now... :no2:

Alchemy is better IMO. Clues is barely better than Divination in a deck built to exploit it; it suffers from the same problem that Augur or Farseek can; sometimes you just need a land. Alchemy can always do that in a lunch and that is not irrelevant. Also instant vs sorcery.

Yeah, took an extra dose of my stupidity and illiteracy pills this morning...I need to stop seeing cards as what they "should" be to advance the constructed game and recognize limited fodder.

Okay...this is more interesting. Anyone else think this suggests that Boros and Izzet are going to be PR buddies?

Catch :1mana: :symu: :symr:
Sorcery (R)

Gain control of target permanent until end of turn. Untap it. It gains haste until end of turn.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

Release :4mana: :symr:
Sorcery (R)

Each player sacrifices an artifact, a creature, an enchantment, a land, and a planeswalker

That's a card I can get behind. ;-)

Firstblade looks lovely too.

On the fence about Uncovered Clues. Fuck that card.

BUG Zombies with Lotleth Troll, Blood Scrivener and Havengul Lich? Deathrite Shaman as well maybe? As games Ho long, the Lich let's you rebut all your cards and he's no slouch as a 4/4.

It turns out that the mighty mountain was back on top here locally last weekend. SCG IQ Kansas City--I don't know the field size--was won by a red deck.

[deck]Mono Red - josh pihl 1st Place at StarCityGames.com Invitational Qualifier on 4/14/2013

Creatures (30)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
3 Firefist Striker

4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble

Lands (20)
20 Mountain

Spells (10)
3 Brimstone Volley
4 Searing Spear
3 Pillar of Flame

Sideboard
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Frostburn Weird
3 Volcanic Strength
4 Skullcrack
2 Mizzium Mortars[/deck]

A Gruul Aggro deck also dropped in at 4th:

[deck]R/G AggroMark Simard 4th Place at StarCityGames.com Invitational Qualifier on 4/14/2013

Creatures (33)
4 Ash Zealot
3 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Flinthoof Boar
3 Ghor-Clan Rampager
3 Hellrider
4 Lightning Mauler
4 Rakdos Cackler
4
Stromkirk Noble

Lands (20)
12 Mountain
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Stomping Ground

Spells (7)
4 Searing Spear
3 Pillar of Flame

Sideboard
1 Boros Reckoner
1 Ghor-Clan Rampager
3 Pyreheart Wolf
2 Volcanic Strength
2 Electrickery
4 Skullcrack
2 Domri Rade[/deck]

The rest of the top 8 in order was Prime Speaker Bant, Reanimator, Jund Midrange, Aristrocrats Act 2, Bant Hexproof and Naya Blitz.

Seems to me that red deck was pretty risky on the mana, but it obviously paid off for the pilot.

If you're going to play DRS, then Lili 2 for discarding lands if necessary to hit a color? Varolz, is anti-synergistic with the lich, so Lili would fit in at 3 with Gerry.

Or another thought (prepare to laugh)...since you're in green, ramp and hit Rooftop Storm? It would be absolutely ludicrous with the lich in play...

I don't really like Lili in aggro decks with so few cards you want to discard.

I was thinking of the Scrivener trigger if you hit a streak of land and needed to get some out of your hand. How do we get to an empty hand if we're 1 land or more ahead? We're going to have to play a relatively high land count with Lich, so flood will be a distinct possibility.

Khaos your bravery never ceases to amaze me.

We should call it the Khaos Challenge.

How many days can YOU go in a row playtesting ONLY against anti-RDW before you lose your mind?

Harder than Ham challenge?

Soon to be determined...
I'm either brave or just really stupid.

Or both. :?

This kind of speculation feels a tad off-kilter. Putting in a card to combat mana flood in a deck instead of streamlining the deck itself to perform better just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Plus I'm starting to feel like Scrivener has less playability that I first thought. If you have to go out of your way to make him work consistently, is he really worth including at all?

Scrivener is a build-around; it wants cheap creatures that you can dump from your hand, a low curve, and a means of truly emptying your hand. Van Lunen came to the same conclusion in his most recent article...Liliana to control discard as needed and to act as removal, SiB to up the value of Scrivener in plowing through the deck. Running blue, however, it would make more sense to run blue card draw since it doesn't hit your life total.

'morning, gents.

Cute pictures, z.

I got the other half of my birthday stuff yesterday: a formal Argyle kilt jacket and matching vest to go along with the new gray and black kilt. We have tickets for the opera The Mikado on Saturday, so I'll be wearing the new ensemble. I suspect I'll find more occasions to wear it. :)

Dragon's Maze is shaping up to be a very odd set.

I like it, minus the 20 land thing. I'd probably take out a Reckoner and a Pillar for an extra land and another
Firefist Striker for maximum :1mana: :symr: cards to chain Emissary off of.

I think the bigger problem is that it puts instants and sorceries into your hand, which is anti-synergistic with Delver when you're trying to flip him.

Yeah, it's a solid card in this meta. I've tested it out a bit and I'm trying to sqeeze in as many as I can into Dos Rakis' SB - though it looks like I've only got room for two.

How does it feel to be so completely ahead of the game, redbros?

You know something's going right when you have to subcontract out your "feel goods" to other realms of conscienceness because there are too many of them.

Also... lulz:
