I say B. Zem would you consider replacing one or both of the Boros Guildgates with a Temple of Silence? You get your extra white source and that one extra scry land can be useful. Your already tapped for a guild gate, might as well scry. Instead of guild gates, I run 2 Temple of Silence and I don't have a problem at all.
I don't seem that crazy now.

We still want RR early for Searing Blood, Chandra's Phoenix, and 2-spells-1-turn. Let us know how testing goes!

I am trying to be less dismissive of the ideas of other players - at least where they can show me results - than I have been in the past.

I have been very happy with Young Pyromancer when playing online; it is coming in a lot so whether that reflects a meta shift or me improving with its use I don't know, but it has been fantastic of late. Perhaps Ash Zealot is just getting worse? Mono U is more popular again, GR is less popular and Blind Obedience is seeing play - these features of the meta online push me towards Young Pyromancer.

Once that happens, I have substantially less mana resquirements for turn 2, so I could see a 1 Boros Guildgate, 1 Temple of Silence split. This would mean I
don't need Assemble in the board, giving me a full four more cards to play with.

I am at least going to test it, because if it works, the upside is substantial.
All of these changes make me smile.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Definitely. I think I will try 4 Shock, 2 Searing Blood also. I am finding it increasingly difficult to make effective use of Searing Blood; people are playing better around it with Pack Rat, Lifebane isn't seeing as much maindeck play etc. However, on the other hand, Mono U is on the rise. Control is still very popular, and overall, Shock is much better there; and YP$ likes cheaper spells.

Going to two Searing Blood / 4 Shock is interesting:
- overall better against GR
- probably a wash vs aggressive strategies; less powerful, but cheaper is nice and YP$ helps these matchups a LOT
- better vs. control for all the obvious reasons

I
think the choice is validated because, speaking for online:
- GR is on decline
- UWx Control is on the rise
- Shock has a pretty powerful interaction with YP.

Thoughts?

RE: Mana, probably 1 Guildgate, 1 Temple of Silence is right, we probably do want 19 red sources for Turn 3 Phoenix.

That's a fair point too Purp.

Maybe a PyroRed style deck would be very well positioned? I am not a big fan of 1 drops in the current meta though; they don't seem great against MBC anymore (probably because Bile Blight wrecks what used to be our best openings) and they're terrible against Mono U (on the rise) and GR Monsters (admittedly, on the decline).

Something hastey, just to improve top deck quality.

I love having an extra scryland, they're so OP.

So this is what I will test if anyone else wants to join in:

[deck=Zemanjaski's Boros Burn as at 2:30pm on 25-March-14]
Creatures
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Young Pyromancer

Enchantments
3 Chained to the Rocks

Instants
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Searing Blood
4 Shock
4 Skullcrack
4 Warleader's Helix

Lands
1 Boros Guildgate
10 Mountain
3 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
1 Temple of Silence
4 Temple of Triumph

Sideboard
2 Blind Obedience
1 Chained to the Rocks
2 Mizzium Mortars
1 Mutavault
4 Rakdos Cackler
1 Spark Trooper
+4 cards
[/deck]

Obligatory random Zem combination of lands and sideboard cards. You can tell I built it because its a mix of 1-ofs, 2-ofs, 3-ofs and playsets. Madness.

Ideas for the 4 sb cards? I will test it in paper tomorrow and if i I don't like it I will go back to ash zealots for the invitational. Seems like for me I want cards that improve the control matchups.

My meta says that I need Firedancers in at least 3 of those slots. Decks like GW and Naya have taken off here. Against control, we may want to move back to Pyromaster to have something more durable. Wear/Tear can get us past BlOb and DSphere. I can't really think of anything else that would have the impact that Firstblade had before BlOb became a thing.

I like Fated over Mortars since I fight a lot of x/5s but that is probably a meta call. It kills an upticked Jace but YP already pins him down pretty well.

I was thinking 1 Assemble, 2 Firedrinker Satyr (so six 1 drops vs. control) and 1 Chandra because I like a fuckton of 1-ofs in my aggro decks.

If this has been addressed already I apologize in advance, but for control what about Oracle of Bones or Satyr Nyx-Smith? I know we want the early pressure, but OoB would probably be 5/3 or 4/3 with Jace out on the draw. They have to address that. Same thing with Satyr Nyx-Smith. The way I view it's inspired ability (I could be completely wrong) is an over priced Lightning Strike against control. Paying that saves the burn spells in our hand to add up. Later in the game when our hand gets thin, adding a 3/1 haster to the board doesn't sound bad.

I still consider Toil/Trouble an option, especially if people are considering adding 1 or 2 Temple of Silence. Granted it's a bit of a stretch, but all you need is one black mana to add 4 more damage or to load up your hand.

I like both of those suggestions. Toil/troubles not a card I enjoy playing with, but it's also an option.

Having said that, we cut the haste guys(firstblade) because of blind obedience so adding more doesn't make sense, and as for the sideboard, looking at Z's main, I'm honestly content with just the mutavault and cacklers I think. With YP in the deck, I don't really mind casting shock.

if I where to add a card for control, I'd probably go full yolo on the 1-of plan and bring in 1 dragon and Chandra(or just 2 Chandra).

It's actually within the realm of reason to have a transformational sideboard with reckoners, Chandra, and dragons.

Look like we're back on the original "Angry Phoenix" list from last year (if anyone remembers its) except we have Searing Blood.

Maybe Keening Apparition is a possible side? You still have a creature and can sac it if you need to get rid of BlOb or whatever.

Against any deck that can remove it, we are just going to hold it until we need something dead. Better off going with the card that is either cheaper or can hit multiple things.

Except that Reckoner sucks.
I think Reckoner was a recent addition it wasn't in the first Angry list (though being fair, Red Aggro decks were VERY common back then so Reck would of done some work), the original list did run odd cards like [card]Toil // Trouble[/card] MD though.

- - - - - - - - -

I never liked [card]Toil // Trouble[/card] outside the UWx MU and perhaps the Burn Mirror, but I did really enjoy the idea of running extra "scry" lands so I'm glad you guys are re-exploring the idea.

Anger of the Gods against aggro? (SInce we are dropping Firedancer)

4 mortars or 2 mortars 2 conflags?
Pacifism as "worse chains" for DD/Paladin/Big Green guys?

I think 2 chandra sounds better than > 1 chandra / 1 assemble.

Why don't we run 1 Temple of Silence and 1 Temple of Malice? If we are looking for a red source and some scry action I don't see why that won't work for us. Am I missing something?

If I was to use that list, my sideboard would look like:

4 Firedrinker Satyr (I dont like Cackler's in the mirror, and Satyr is better vs. Control, ESPECIALLY since a lot will be running Nightveil vs. us now
2 Blind Obedience
1 Wear // Tear
3 Satyr Firedancer
2 Mizzium Mortars
1 Chained to the Rocks
2 Spark Trooper

with the possibility of cutting the sparktroopers for 1 Assemble, 1 Mutavault

HOWEVER. This list wants the original mana base

Just went 3-0 in an 8-man including beating hexproof in the finals. The tokens helped a lot.

Opponent puts me to 1 life, goes up to 17 after hitting me with a Gladecover Scout wearing Unflinching Courage, Madcap Skills and Ethereal Armour (9/6, trample, first strike, lifelink).

My board is Rakdos Cackler and Young Pyromancer, three duals and a Mutavault. I casually EOT Boros Charm and Lightning Strike him (make two tokens, you're at 10). Untap, Boros Charm him again (you're at six) and swing for lethal with my board, with another Magma Jet and Mutavault activation available. Dumb.

OK, how does this look:

[deck]Sideboard[/deck]

The 1st Spark Trooper could arguably be a 3rd Firedancer, lower cost is typically better after all.

YP too strong.

Been doing ACTUAL testing for the first time in what feels like forever and I'm on a tear.

As far as sideboard goes, I've got 2 firedancers, 2 rakdos cacklers(4 satyrs). Not sure if cacklers needed.

UW can be dicey though
