I say do it. Some place to discuss MODO perhaps?

with Modern Masters being announced, I think we can expect an influx of players for that format who would be active in making decks as they become more accessible. A modern forum would certainly be a nice addition to our site.

Gonna do this. Also I unlocked the Technical Support forum for the posting of general problems and I'm going to ship the old technical problems threads there.

As promised, made the new Modern, Commander, and Magic Online subforums.
Lets go live?

Do it.
EDIT:
We should probably describe what we mean by going live. Mass signature campaign. Individual invites. Typable domain. I'd favor all of the above.

I'd do thrice.
The two first things are easy. As for the third: The typable domain is our largest, largest flaw, and we've been already discussing it at large. We can keep the site in its current physical location and use the typable domain as an alias, but this requires converging into a definitive name for this community and purchasing the domain (the latter option shouldn't be difficult, even financially speaking, and I'm willing to help).
I'm gonna work double shift in implementing the multiquote and the image attachments upgrade and then i'll fire the "GO!" shot in here.
Pretty excited about having the site populated with more content and new users to interact with!

Should you and I and anyone else chat in real
time to prep an agreement deciding exactly how the forum's going to be owned and operated, managed, and costs divvied up?

Absolutely. Lets arrange for this

I'm gonna go have dinner in the next hour, but the 3 next hours are free for me. Kijin and GR could also join if they are available

If you mod me for Commander/EDH, I'll start working up some forums etc.

if it's not too much to ask, could we get some subforums for the mtg format related subforums? I'd hate to have general discussion about standard and modern (banlist, metagame, etc) bogged down by "lol look at my cool new deck" threads.
I would recommend "Established - Combo/Control/Aggro" a la MTGS' setup for their Legacy subforum and as the community becomes larger they can add in the official threads for various decks inside those forums.
Speaking mainly about modern here, but the same logic could be applied to Standard. And then some sort of "developing" subforum where anyone can just post decklists to discuss.
just curious, how is this done? Is it something that can be done by moderators (Azrael comes to mind as the mod for Modern) or is it something that has to be done by Admin?

Indeed, creating forums is an admin task.
This could go both ways given that setting up new subforums really takes one minute to do:
1) We define a skeleton with an arborescence
2) Create them on a need basis
Keep in mind we have a few admins: me, Thrillo, Azrael, Jones, GR and King Spam (the last not really active). Our plan is to share as much responasbilities as we can.
This said if you feel this gives a good setting straightaway, I can make subforums now.

I mean if we plan on opening up the flood gates soon, imo, it'd look bad if we have just one forum for everything standard because it'll get cluttered with people trying to discuss the meta and tournaments with people trying to discuss decks.
I feel that it would look good if we show at least some structure and give new members an idea of where they can go to discuss deck X or propose an idea for Deck Y.
If it only takes a minute, I don't really see the harm in doing it.
Creating subforums for other things could work differently (ie as need basis) but I think that for the formats, we need some structure from the get go.

OK I'll do it, please suggest the arborescence for standard and modern for starters.
Manasjap can chime in for EDH/Commander, and GR can work something for Magic Online

Standard - General Disccusion (which could be maintained in the regular forum) Competitive (Tier 1) Developing (Everything else)
Modern - General Discussion (see above) Competitive (which should be divided into Aggro/Control/Combo)

Did you meant the subforums not to be visible in the index?
If not I can fix this
Posted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:22 pm
by ( G_R )
Yeah, that was on purpose, but for the wrong reasons. I thought they displayed differently, I know how it looks now. Please, give it a check, and see if I didn't misclick anything else.

Checked and put some stuff on. Left the subforums invisible as per your instructions

by ( G_R )
Turned them visible. I worded it awkwardly, but I meant that I was wrong to make them invisible in the first place.

I have trouble trying to sticky a thread, is it possible that I do not have permission yet?
Posted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:32 pm
by ( G_R )
I checked and you do. Do you see the Mod Control Panel link?
Posted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:34 pm
by Manasjap
Yeah, I go to moderate forum, mark the thread and search for a sticky option on the "select desired action" bar.
Posted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:36 pm
by admin
and then you hit the submit button right? (just checking)
Posted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:38 pm
by Manasjap
The problem is that there is no sticky option ^^ I see; delete, merge, move, copy, lock, unlock, resync.

Oh I see, I put you as standard mod, and they don't have these permissions.

what's the status with custom titles? IMO, it should be something that everyone has access too, not just those who make lots of posts.
I feel like it would show a welcoming feeling instead of sally where there was an obvious seperation between those who had CTs and those who didn't.
also if someone could tell me how to change mine that would be awesome

I think we can get behind this, unfortunately this will require a mod. I'm gonna work on some updates this week, but this will come in the 2nd priority list

Can I add subforums?
I think it would be good to make a 1v1 <-> multiplayer distinction in the Commander forum (maybe just for decklists). What do you guys think?

any chance we can get a limited subforum? i'd mod it if no one objects...

Manasjap, only admins can make subforums, I'll do it for you, just give me the names and the tags.
imopen2: Good, we need men of good will, will do
Edit: And done!

Name: 1 vs 1 Commander Decklists
tag: Decklists intended for 1v1 games can be posted here.
Name: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
tag: Decklists intended for multiplayer games can be posted here.
Something like this?
