Fanatic is a good finisher provided you can determine when the best time to play him.

Decklist. I'm pretty sure I would've put Hammer over that singleton GHC. Did that GHC do work?

Brace yourselves, bad brews from everyone on the internet are coming.

Yeah, thinking about Zealot > Hammer > Reckoner >Fanatic just gives me goosebumps. That card is stone-cold nuts.

Just had a moment of mini-speculation and ordered a playset of foil fanatics @ $9 shipped. Pretty much to commemorate this day, I don't even intend to play them.

GHC is always a threat, though.
The thing here is, it's only 1 GHC, and there would be more games that 1 Hammer would be the better card that you play than the games where GHC takes you the distance. It's also synergistic with the deck: adding two damage to Fanatic and making it able to attack right out of the gate; and it allows you to turn those extra lands to threats.

I'd prefer the hammer, but I get the chainwalker. Gives him another 2-drop to chain into with BTE and it's 3 power which is a lot.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

lol these were my thoughts as well.

Looks like a lot more solid of a list. Ash Zealot over Firedrinker certainly is better in the mirror matches or wannaba red decks that will pop up, but you really just gotta have the 8 1-drops against U/W and Esper decks.

Isn't his deck a build-around Fanatic? I don't think you can change Zealot or BTE as easily as that. If I'm to go fast aggro, I wouldn't want to have 4 copies of Fanatic as it will only do 3-4 damage most of the time.

thats why Im leaning toward favoring the BTE build with no-ash zealot. Shes solid, but you just really want that turn 1 play and being able to swing into an 0/3 plant then play a BTE+Chainwalker post combat is where you want to be at in this deck imo

I wouldn't say its a build around either. Its still operates with RDW and even has some lategame potential postboard with Chanda herself. You're just giving up the mutavault engine for being able to cast BTE on curve all the time and reckoner

Oh I just noticed you cut the birds from the first list. I might be crazy but the BTE build you listed Johnny.... its possible that without Mutavault firefist striker is just worse than chandra's phoenix in that list.

I mean you have no haste cause we cut zealot, so no real way to turn him on.

And CP gives it a later game angle (and also provides 2 devotion to fanatic)'

it messes the curve up, but that would be my other change and see how it works

Just play Z's deck or my deck:

19 Mountain
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
4 Magma Jet
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Mutavault
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Searing Spear
4 Shock
4 Ash Zealot
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Firedrinker Satyr
1 Hammer of Purphoros
3 Fanatic of Mogis
SB: 4 Mizzium Mortars
SB: 3 Act of Treason
SB: 1 Mutavault
SB: 1 Hammer of Purphoros
SB: 1 Skullcrack
SB: 2 Flames of the Firebrand
SB: 3 Peak Eruption

While I do want to play Jund at states, I've realized the midrange mirror is iffy since without farseek I can't just keep 90% of openers anymore since you will lose to manascrew and I've had this deck in my pocket for a while.

It's mostly the same as Z's with my personal touches mixed in with his cards. I'll probably cut flames for reckoner, and I want 2 dragons in the board, but list is solid. If the deck doesn't board cleanly, it's because I haven't applied any science to it and just put all the
cards I want to play in the board.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Yes, listening to Cedric Philips can give you some kind of MTG-Cancer.
White people have Hitler and Stalin to be ashamed of. But hey, black people have Cedric Philips. Take that black people!
It's good to see that Red Deck WINS, I've also seen nice Boros Deck but it played a lot of creatures and much less burn than I do... and no maindeck Chained to the Rocks.

My summary from this tournament:
- Elspeth is tits-shit-crazy good
- Chandra is tits-shit-crazy good
- Our main opponent to beat is again UW Control, good thing it has it's own nemesis in form of UB/Esper.
- White Weenies with Red splash aren't actually that bad. I think that better construction of this deck could actually spawn a reasonable archetype. Not a fan, but I believe it worked pretty well.
- Fanatic of Mogis is tits-shit-crazy good
- Reckoner doing work, but I'm not gonna jump into hypetrain.
- Single target removal might be rendered
useless. Aetherling and Aggro decks don't really give a fuck about it.

Based on this event:

[deck]Pyromancer Red[/deck]

More dedicated anti-UWx and Rx package, little lighter on cards for midrange. Post board YP gets out of control, when you take out the 1 drops for all the removal ever printed.

I'm waiting for Cedric to opine "Rakdos Cackler really is a hybrid red/black 1 drop!"
Z, He did say something very similar to this in one of the Esper vs Mono Red games. The Esper guy had Blood Baron out and the Red player had a Cackler out. He was trying to say something about Baron's protection from black/white.

The winning decklist:

Creatures (29)

4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Firefist Striker
1 Gore-House Chainwalker
4 Rakdos Cackler

Lands (21)

21 Mountain

Spells (10)

4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Shock

Sideboard
4 Frostburn Weird
4 Burning Earth
1 Hammer of Purphoros
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
4 Mizzium Mortars

4x1-drops, 8x3-drops, and 4x4-drops on 21 land is pretty bold. I'm not complaining about Mono Red taking it down (Fanatic deck!), I'm just saying that I probably would've built the deck a little bit different.

Very bold post-board with a billion 4 drops. Still, I remember all the 4 Hellrider on 20 land decks that did really well for a week before returning to reality.
