@suga @photo: With both of you suggesting mtgotraders, I assume it has the most reasonable (or standardize) price for cards?

Cardbot > MTGOTraders, but there isn't the same quality of support or selection.

The more I look at it, the more I find the hammer to be too good for its cost, especially for being mono red. I won't be surprised if it ends up being the most expensive weapon among the available five.

I agree with taking out the angers.

There's nothing wrong with shivan dragon I think. Sometimes, you just need a big beater.

The extra toughness on the Shivan counts for a lot.

Starting to wonder how good Reckoner maindeck will be this coming weekend given the typical slew of aggro decks out of the gate after a fresh rotation.

It's easily the best, that's for sure. Whip is very good as well.
I can't speak to Constructed, but the whip is a wrecking ball in Sealed. It supports reanimator strategies and redoubles creature value, makes mill work against you and turns combat into a losing proposition when you're facing it down. I had a guy down to 4 with commanding board presence and 20 life; he had whip. He reanimated Abhorrent Overlord, smashed me for a ton, and left 5 lifelinked harpies on the field to chump my army. Next turn he bestowed the black emissary onto a harpy, ditched some cards to pump it and suddenly I was totally out of the game.

The design of the whip is straight-up genius for a god of the dead. With whip out, you can swing into or block things
with impunity, gain life, then on your turn reanimate whatever you lost back to crash in for another life swing. Sideboards best be including artifact hate, because otherwise the whip will be ruining people's days.

Something else for us to consider: there are a lot of 3-5 toughness creatures at 1-2 CMC. The hexproof plant is the most likely to be seen, but lots of people will be using Omenspeaker, and UB has even more choices. Returned Phalanx was damned good in sealed.

As much as I love getting to play with Magma Jet, I'm wondering if Mizzium Mortars should take its place in the main deck instead. Save Jet in the side for the Aggro matchups, or is the Scry that good? I'm seriously asking as I have very limited experience with scry as an effect.

After testing a bit, I love the interaction between Mutavault and Hammer and anyone who says they have negative synergy together is talking out of their ass.

Me: Attack with Mutavault.
Them: Doom Blade Mutavault.
Me: In response sac Mutavault, make a 3/3. Nice 1-for-0 bro.

Depends on the texture of the format. It's a good point to raise and the issue should be in the back if everyone's mind, but a definitive answer isn't out there yet.

Except that Omenspeaker is complete crap. Anyone caught playing it should feel shame. Sure, it's not awful vs. aggro (but it's only ever a 1-for-1 that devalues your own wraths) but the cards a complete blank vs midrange or control. I won't go to my catchphrase of 'not constructed playable' because I know some clown will spike an SCG top 8 and give all the other idiots hope, but Christ is that a bad card.

The only criticisms I've seen of Hammer are from players who admit to having never played with it, but 'it seems bad in a red deck bro'.

Feels good to be in the like 5% of players that actually know how to evaluate red cards.

Nice on my bank account too.

For every evan erwin and other silly Timmy that think they can evaluate red cards. My bank account would like to say thank you. For all the LSV's keep it on the down low you're making my wallet cry.

If it isn't apparent I have a loathing for evan erwin and I'm just flat out ashamed that Cedric Phillips
and I can check the same ethnicity box.

The obvious (and wrong) comparison for Omenspeaker is Augur of Bolas. Since the majority of players are bad at evaluation, many of them will undoubtedly use it in their U
decks. It will be a while before they catch on that it's bad.

Edit: As for the Hammer, it's looking like it should be an auto include in the majority of red decks since it does so much of what we want.

Don't feel bad. I may be racist as hell, but I would never go so far as to compare anyone of any ethnicity to Cedric Phillips.

That's just mean.

The only thing I hate more than a Jew is those Goddamned anti-Semites.
Also, it comes from a tramatic experience I had as a child.

You see, in West Philidelphia - born and raised,
on the playground is where I spent most of my days
Chillin' and relaxin' and actin' all cool,
shootin' some b-ball outside of the school
when a couple of guys who were up to no good
started making trouble in by neighborhood.
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
and
said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in South Carolina."
