I was thinking that I want another Mutavault as well , I'll see what I can do - if you have any suggestion I'll love to hear it as well.Is there a possibility of running more Mutavaults in this version magicdowunder? Some of the best synergies I had with FFS was when I had Mutavault out and capable of being activated. Perhaps I'm just being greedy though, lol.
(Vaults drastically improves the R/x/x midrange list as well)
EDIT: 4/2 split between YP$/FFS doesn't seem bad, FFS role is just to bust down doors against MonoU and GR - he isn't 'needed' against the other list.

TL;DR Solemn10 and I go to the same FNM. He gets Esper twice and random jank once. I get G/R (splash white for unflinching courage?) Monster and G/W Aggro, then a bye in the third round . Room was literally half esper.
Anyway, here's my report:
Round 1 VS GRw Monsters piloted by Keigo.
G1: I win the roll. He mulls once and I steam roll his slow hand.
G2: He is on the play and we both keep seven. He hits T3 Witchstalker, T4 Unflinching Courage, T5 Witchstalker, T6 Unflinching Courage + Domri Rade. You can guess how that went.
G3 I'm on the play and mull to 6, he keeps 7. He hits
T2 Hexproof plant, T3 Witch Stalker, $ 4 Unflinching Courage. I have 2x YP$ and start aiming the burn at the dome, since he can't attack into my board of first strikers and elementals with his 5/5 trample, lifelink, hexproof witchstalker. Eventually I flood (with him at 11), and he gets Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx +Polukranos, Wolrd Eater and Monstrouses him to clear most of my stuff. Next turn [card]Armed // Dangerous[/card] ends any hopes I had of chumping.

Round 2 VS GW Aggro Piloted by Tomoyuki
G1: I play through all the typical GW Aggro shit like voice of resurgence, fleecemane lion and loxodon smiter. Around T7 he is on 4 life, I have 2x AZ in play and a [card]
flames of the firebrand[/card] in hand. He has a 1/1 voice token and two cards in hand. I attack and he casts Advent of the Wurm (thanks for that card wizards) + Rootborn Defences. One of the biggest blow outs I've ever been privy to. I burn him to the face to put him to 1, but top deck a land and eat shit. In hindsight it might have been correct to play flames targeting the Voice Token + him to put him to two (what do you guys think?), but I couldn't predict him sandbagging those cards. I thought, ok, maybe one AotW and then a second main flames to finish it, voice token dies on first strike. My guess is that he had been holding therootborn defences (why the fuck is that main deck?) and topped the Advent. Otherwise he would have played the advent to stem the bleeding.
G2: I'm on the play. I mull to 6 because my 7 was unkeepable. He hits T2 Fiendslayer Paladin > T3 [
card]Unflinching Courage[/card]. He follows up with Angelic Accord (wtf?) and then [card]Trostani, Selesnya's Voice[/card] + 2x AotW. I was helpless, since I was facing down Angels and Wurms and Hexproof Knights (Oh my! ). I never hit white for Chained to the Rocks, although I doubt it would have mattered.

Thoughts
I'm sure Walter White is working out for you guys, but I think my meta is too unstable. The room was about 50% Esper (please, for the love of God give me that) and about 50% random stuff. There were three other R/W decks (a first), one red deck, and one R/B deck (solemn 10). I'm usually the only R/x player. I (and another Devo Red player, now
Solemn10 too) have been winning a lot lately, so players are starting to copy us or hate us out. If I could get Esper and not ALL THE UNFLINCHING COURAGE DECKS That'd be great .
I think I'll be headed back to Big Boros, which is also heavily favoured against Esper, but I believe has a better "random bullshit" match up.

I think I'd like 4 YP, but I feel like I might have just not have got very many good hands and draws for BTE > FFS to activate. Even though I played 19 games... /shrugI was thinking that I want another Mutavault as well , I'll see what I can do - if you have any suggestion I'll love to hear it as well.Is there a possibility of running more Mutavaults in this version magicdowunder? After watching Trollshow go 5-1, I want to try testing Pyrewild ShamanSilly idea: what about using singleton Pyrewild Shaman? Once running, this motherfucker just can't stop.
Just try him. I really loved him in testing variety of decks.
btw: I went 3-1 with my new list, I fought so many odd list its not even worth recording - rating also took a huge hit so i'm 1879 now .
Ya know running 02x Pyrewild Shaman in the Ash list can lead to some rather disgusting plays
against midrange - it can also kill those horrible Nightveil Specter without trading your unit.

Sounds like you´re thinking like T4. It´s not for hitting curve asap.The mana is the issue with nighthowler, because I do think it can be a pretty sweet card. Double black on 11 sources is very ambitious
Even if the mana was perfect and you cuold have either, Hammer is a much stronger card against control whereas nighthowler shines against midrange/mirror decks
As for answers to Control, Mutavault contributes with much the same. Hammer is not ca, but synergy. Nighthowler is ca (and very reliable such with Phoenix). Hammer's clock is slow, Howlers is not.
The point I do not see addressed is that it a big mofo guy with 2 lives for neglible mana (marrying well to Chandras non-block ability). Think of him as [card]Hound of Griselbrand[/card:
2187b6cg] of yore, but bigger and better the longer the match runs. Vs. Midrange he simply kills DD/Arbour Colossus/Whatnot, due to size. As of now every plan in this thread can be summed up in: "Win fast (Sligh country) or hope to draw enough parts of the engine to eke out an incremental win." Nighthowler adds a faster clock with 1 time recursion.
Howler aside I think Tymaret is an amazing thing post-board. A [mana]br[/mana] guy that puts the ball in Controls field to handle or he will take 6 damage/round cannot be bad. Rakdos misses the Scry land, but I like many parts of the colour pair atm too.
Pyrewild Shaman seems to fit the archetype quite well too. A singleton looks all possible.

I just can't accept the idea of siding in a 3-of that I don't want to cast reliably on time. Also it pretty much HAS to be on a phoenix to be as effective as you're selling me, not to mention that if you don't have a bunch of dead stuff everywhere or (since you mentioned arbor colossus) my scavenging ooze can make it a 0/0....
Its a dead card in your hand in an aggro deck, if:
1. You don't have double black. Ham's thread shows a less than 50% chance of hitting it by T4. Curving out or not, if they answer the rest of your threats you're sitting there with no pressure hoping to eventually having something in play stick AND bestow it
2. There aren't enough creatures in the graveyard to make it mana efficient
3. You don't have a creature to bestow it on vs. control
Hammer doesn't have these issues. Its funny you call the haste giving enchantment a "slower" clock, but I suppose it is slower than
your godly nighthowler draws, but it has always been impressive. Getting 3/3s out of flooded lands is ACTUAL CA. Bestowing a Nighthowler might make a more threatening super phoenix, but it doesn't make you up on actual cards or threats.
You also don't need 3 SB hammers, so it frees up a bunch of space. I reccomend skullcracks since you're comfortable with a game going later and it REALLY is house versus mono black and obv decent against control decks

I think mono black aggro, like the list Z had awhile back, with Lifebane Zombie would be the best home for Nighthowler. The intimidate from LBZ and Mogis Maurauder for bestow targest (hell bestow that shit on a THRILL KILL for sweet trades) coupled with your incredible suite of black removal spells seems much more synergistic, also being able to always cast it on time ;D

Hmmm. That's an interesting question. I wouldn't bring Peak Eruption in, because removal is better. If I were them I wouldn't bring Peak Eruption in, because removal is better. I think you still want the 4 Chained game 2, especially if they haven't seen it game 1. Probably game 3 as well, no reason to dilute the SB, though you could probably drop a Chained for another Mortars the way the meta has been going. I'm starting to see why Z and MDU were fine without them, Mortars hits pretty much everything.

2-1 vs Colossal Gruul JohnyHotSouce MTGO Grinder - lost game 2 from 16 life and reckoner on with polukranos into Armed into Ghor-Clan Rampager
1-2 vs JUND CLYDE THE GLIDE DREXLER - another mtgo grinder. Chained Reaper of the Wilds when he cast it, continued assault. He Blew me out with 2nd Abrupt decay (didnt see it comming) into Desecration Demon with 4 more removal in doomblades, dreadbores and decays. I put him into a lot of outs - 4 Lightning Strikes, 2 Fanatic of Mogis, however he used last card in hand - golgari charm to mitigate chances to only 2 fanatics. Drew lightning strike and put him to 1.
2-0 vs Mono Black
0-2 vs Mono Black. In game 1 2 * thoughtseize stripped me from 1 drop and BTE, later chandra got downfalled while I drew 9 lands. Game 2 had 9 mana, opp on 4, no flying blockers I had 2 chandra phoenixes in grave. Every burn killed him for multiple turns. BTW he was horrible as
he killed my phoenixes with downfalls and other removal...

1-2 vs RUG ramp. Kept 2 lands on a draw, couldnt draw 3rd land - he was at 2 with me havng 2 chandra phoenies in hand.
2-1 vs Colossal Gruul JohnyHotSouce MTGO Grinder - lost game 2 from 16 life and reckoner on with polukranos into Armed into Ghor-Clan Rampager
1-2 vs JUND CLYDE THE GLIDE DREXLER - another mtgo grinder. Chained Reaper of the Wilds when he cast it, continued assault. He Blew me out with 2nd Abrupt decay (didnt see it comming) into Desecration Demon with 4 more removal in doomblades, dreadbores and decays. I put him into a lot of outs - 4 Lightning Strikes, 2 Fanatic of Mogis, however he used last card in hand - golgari charm to mitigate chances to only 2 fanatics. Drew lightning strike and put him to 1.
2-0 vs Mono Black
0-2 vs Mono Black. In game 1 2 * thoughtseize stripped me from 1 drop and BTE, later chandra got downfalled while I drew 9 lands. Game 2 had 9 mana, opp on 4, no flying blockers I had 2 chandra phoenixes in grave. Every burn killed him for multiple turns. BTW he was horrible as
he killed my phoenixes with downfalls and other removal...

RE: Nighthowler. It's just too hard to cast and you need to be ultra-consistent vs. control. There will be metagames in the future where it's good, but now is not that time.
RE: FotF main. The argument for it is simply that it's a power powerful (though less efficient) card than Shock. When it comes up, especially in Game 1s, it just lets you sometimes make very powerful plays that are unsuspected. It also increases your outs to Nightveil Spectre in Game 1 which is nice.

Why's that JS? My experience is that they run mostly black removal (aside from Helix and Anger; a lot of lists online don't run both either) so there isn't a drawback to Satyr. Do they build their removal suite differently in Japan? I like Satyr because I straight want to aggro them out as they have such a robust endgame.

'Interesting' night on MTGO - running Emily Pyro I got my variance out of the way (combination of bad match ups, bad draws, doubtless a few bad plays in there too) for an entire week and went 1-5! It's the 3rd night I've had like this over the last month, prior to it I was 15-5 in my last 20 with the same deck. If things continue in their usual pattern I should be in for a good winning week now though

Just some quick thoughts on the above:
1) I will generally always play Cackler(s) first, since they have some advantage against black removal (i.e., Doom Blade)
2) The exception is if my opponent is playing Soldier of Pantheon. Then I'll play Firedrinker first, and work to get any Soldiers off the board. This is particularly important when playing BTEs (which I do) and Reckoners (which I don't).
Interested in other views on this.

also dega's removal is pretty expensive outside their "sometimes they just have it" curve into anger of the gods on their mana, so I'd jam satyrs all day.
especially if you can curve out and they curve out on removal, you're left with a firedrinker satyr vs. a blood baron and guess who's still swingin

As a general rule on the play against an unknown opp I'll drop a Cackler. Once I know what they are playing I'll adjust depending on what they are playing and what else I have in my hand.

Interesting, vs BRW and BR I can understand - but Naya and Big Boros have tons of red removal (at least the ones I've beenespecially against nayaEven against Naya and Big Boros?Man, I run Satyr out all day against any deck in which I must play Beatdown. Dega included.

though I do miss me my free wins with volcanic strength...
facing as of late) I had my Satyr Mortar a few too many times for me to like him in that MU thus I've been bringing in Boros Reckoner for it.

Good advice, MDU and Fate.
On the play against an unknown, Cackler. If they are playing green and have a first turn mystic, you probably don't want them blocking your Satyr, plus you still have the opportunity to play him next turn (else we wouldn't be answering this question;) ). Against black, they don't have an answer to Cackler until their turn two, so you still have the opportunity to play your Satyr on your turn two and prevent a Devour Flesh.
On the draw, I get to see what my your opponent is playing and make an informed decision. Since this question only applies to a double one-drop hand, you're rarely going to pump Satyr on your turn two instead of playing another one drop, so the only time Satyr is "better" turn one is when your opponent is on green and doesn't play a Mystic. On the draw, you should be able to figure that out pretty easily and play accordingly.
Against Dega, consider that
you'd rather them Anger on turn 3 than to Helix it later.

So, been doing some thinking post fnm... I really liked how the deck felt, but one issue I noticed was that there were a few times where I drew burn when I'd have preferred a creature. It wasnt always a problem, but it was still a thing.

FNM Report:
Deck is standard Walter White, SB -3 Peak Eruption +2 Fanatic +1 Flames.
Round 1: Josh Stronk with Junk Midrange 0-2
What a disappointing start to FNM. Josh and I had played before, and it was a matchup that I'm comfortable with.
Game 1 I was on the draw, with a decent hand but no one-drops (double YP$). After my Magma Jet, I saw nothing but lands for the rest of the game. He was mana screwed, which let me get beats in for a while, but he hit his fourth while I was on my 10th. By that point, he had a hand full a gas and I couldn't catch up.
SB: -8 1-drops, +Mortars, Chained, Skullcrack
I'm not sure if that SB plan is correct, but considering my opponent was very happy with my turn 1 temple, I'd assume it was wrong. Magma Jet revealed another flood, and 4 lands later (after I scryed two to the bottom) I was dead.
We talked about the match afterwards, and he
speculated that Shock was lower-impact than the one drops. My argument was that so many of his creatures stonewall the one drops early, so why not just put in removal for those creatures instead? Shock + Ash Zealot is pretty much a removal spell. Thoughts?

Round 2: Jeremy with RB Control 2-1
I put him on Mono blue, because that's what he's played for 3 weeks now. Little did I know, I was wrong.
Game 1 I had to Mull to 6, and kept a one-lander with Magma Jet on two and two 1-drops; since I put him on Mono U, I wasn't expecting the turn 1 Thoughseize that hit my Jet. My Cackler's flesh got devoured, Satyr had a Hero's Downfall, and I never saw another land. Fortunately, I at least got a read on what he was playing because he played (unnecessarily) Demons, Stormbreath, and Rakdos's Return to finish me.
SB: -4 Shock, +1 Flames, +2 Mortars, +1 Assemble the Legion
I brought in Flames because it was higher-impact than shock, and Mortars so that I'd have an easy
out to any dragons he played. This was a super intense game, and we traded back and forth for a while. I had answers to every threat, and Phoenix did a ton of work. He was looking to stabilize and finally cleared my bored + played a Dragon to my one mountain in hand, but I was able to top-deck a burn with him at 1.
Game 3 I thought about things a little more and decided to bring the other Chains in, though I can't remember what came out. I was able to pretty much kill him with Pyromancer tokens, one token dealing 7 damage to him because he spent his removal on my other threats. Phoenix finished him off.

Round 3: Jake with Mono Black
Game 1: Who's the beatdown? Two Cacklers and a Satyr were the beatdown.
SB: I don't remember, but I brought in Assemble.
Game 2: Can't remember what happened other than the triple Gary + Whip.
Game 3: I kept an opener of 4 lands + Magma Jet + Chandra + Assemble. There was absolutely nothing he could do about Assemble, and it
won.

Round 4: Taylor with America Control
Taylor is one of my testing buddies, so we were pretty relaxed and had a good time. I didn't take notes, but I got it 2-1.

Round 5: Stephen with Esper
The two 4-0's split for top, so whichever of us won got to prize. This match was for all the marbles. Thus, my notes again disappear and I just have life totals.
Game 1: I played threats out in pairs, and he couldn't keep up.
SB: -4 Shock, +1 Flames +3 Skullcrack.
Game 2: I got him to 12 before presumably running out of gas, and his turn 6 Aetherling raced me.
Game 3: He had Aetherling again, but had gotten so used to paying the 1 blue to "untap" it post-combat that he Supreme Verdict'd, payed his blue to exile it, and then realized he had no more mana untapped when his Aetherling died on the way out to a Strike / Shock. He kept drawing lands, but had one card in his hand for while as I was in the midst of beating down. He
found a Verdict, and I just hit with Mutavault for a few turns while keeping an eye on his card. I got him to 5, and then he finally pulled the trigger and played Revelation. With it on the stack, Shock and Lightning Strike got there for game.

I was able to get enough credit to pay for entry and have $20 in the bank for next week's FNM. Good times.
Comments on my SB'ing would be most appreciated.
