Fuck Nykthos. It doesn't work in deck without that many pernaments.
I can't wait for the first fucktard who says, "Actually, all my basic mountains have red mana symbols on them. Why are you playing with those shitty full art ones from Unhinged? Do you even Magic bro?"

Me, "Judge!"

Orzhov Humans look very strong to me. Continuation of the aristocrats. Xathrid Necromancers, humans with Heroic, Aristocrats, Gift of Orzhova/Nighthowlers/Orzhov Charm.

Gift of Orzhova seems so sweet going forward. I always liked the card but it gets more appealing as I assume lots of red decks will be amidst.

I've become quite disillusioned with Kuroda after the past few hours of testing, but I haven't played against a non-black deck yet (mono black, B/W control, B/G goodstuff); even tried a creature-less build with Aurelia's Fury for reach, one Assemble the Legion, two Elspeths, and a Spear of Heliod. Spear was meh, but the rest were excellent. Aurelia's Fury works wonder, Assemble obviously wins games against control, and Elspeth can kill everything. I would strongly consider those cards in the Kuroda SB against control, especially if you want to just side out all of your creatures and win with burn/Assemble/Elspeth/Chandra.

I played a fairly bad America control against mono green; even after 4 Supreme Verdicts, Chained to the Rocks, and double Anger of the Gods he still won. On a more interesting note, the mana was fine. It just neeeeeeeds card draw (And that's the last I'll ever speak of that deck, because I felt like
an asshat for even playing it). Green deck with only above-the-curve creatures + Garruk is very nasty.

Next up for testing is Rakdos control.

About the no brewing in the main forums thing - I did a bit more testing last night with my monored deck in developing. Do you want me to hold onto what I found or just write it in the developing thread?

How did I never see this card:

2GU
Creature — Chimera Uncommon
Flash
Flying, trample
Whenever you draw a card, you gain 1 life.

3/2

This seems like a sweet card that I would enjoy playing. Flash, evasive, lifegain? I like it a lot and BUG has 8 scrylands.

How am I suppose to cast that with Basic Mountains?

Think before you post, LP.

Opinions about thoughtseize in blue control decks: GO.

Edit: the problem is registering a deck with Fathom mage in it.

Everything you say is gross.

But yeah, Thoughtseize is ridic. I don't think I'd often go turn 1 shockland into Thoughtseize, but a second turn one is still likely to save you a lot of life.

Sure is a shitty topdeck, though. Maybe a 3-of is more correct than a 4-of? I don't know - that shit ain't red.

It's ok as a 4-of if you can get it out if your hand when you draw it late.

In modern, we use Thirst for Knowkedge or Liliana.

In Legacy we use Jace and Brainstorm.

In standard....Thoughtflare??

Hell, post it here if nowhere else.
All right then.

I was mainly testing what would be better: 4 [card]Chandra's Phoenix[/card]es or 4Boros Reckoners as the 3 drop of the deck against a 3/4ths complete mono-green elf ramp deck that's in the current standard. Out of 10 games played, there was an exact 50% win rate. It literally came down to whoever went first. This is the best result I've gotten so far.

Changes from main list:
+4 [card]Chandra's Phoenix[/card] ( for 4 total )
+1 Fanatic of Mogis ( for 3 total )
-1 Mutavault( for 3 total and 22 total land )
-1 [card]Hammer of Purphorous[/card:
3ht4wkls] ( for 3 total )

Looking back on it, I could probably run 4 mutavaults in the main since Boros Reckoners went away. Just that I only have 1 and those damned things are expensive and hard to find.

The phoenix is probably strictly better for primarily two reasons: It adds 2 more ways a reliable turn 3 battalion with Firefist Striker for 4 total paths ( 1 drop into BTE -> Firefist, BTE -> BTE -> Firefist, 1 drop into Firefist into Phoenix, BTE -> Firefist into Phoenix) and that by itself or in multiple it's an evasive flier that's hard to get rid of.

I'm also liking 3 hammers in the main board. Haste turns mid and late game BTE chains into something scary. The extra ability to sac lands into 3/3 golems is useful even when you're not flooded out. You can get up to 4 mana to get a Fanatic out and then sac mountains down to 2 and all-in your opponent for one last push of damage.

It
wasn't the best of tests, but the sharp increase in the win rate (probably 5 to 10%) tells me that it's on to something.

Mono Red vs. Mono Green is the most coinflippy matchup. I've played a lot against the pseudo ramp into fatties list in current standards(predator ooze/wolfir silverheart.dec) and the matchup revolved around three things:

Who went first?

Did he have rancor?

Could I manascrew him if he kept a loose hand?

Boarded games added a slightly different dimension because I would bring in boros reckoner(he can't attack with 5/x creatures unless he wins that turn) and he would bring in ratchet bomb.

You basically described how our matches went.

If 50/50 is the norm for a red deck then, this is definitely where it's at. Every other deck I tried sat around 20 ~ 40%.

Also, if you guys are looking for a side project (which many of you probably aren't since we're about to experience rotation), I wrote a little something in the EDH forums about 99 Mountain Ashling. It's really fun to pilot, it can actually win games, and, above all, it can be had for under a dollar (I'm assuming that every redbro has at least 99 extra mountains).

You must not have more than one red deck at a time, then.

Unless you switch lands around. In which case you're a better man than I.

At one point I bought extra Valakut, the Molten Pinnacles just so I wouldn't have
to resleeve them when I switched between playing Modern and EDH.

I've played with those mountains at every event I've been to...kind of a comfort thing, I guess. They make me smile, and it helps remind me to stay loose and not get too heated over a card game. To use the en vogue term, they're a tilt-prevention technique.

Mad props to photo for the reorganization!!! Ima go to bed, but I'll be sure to contribute to the new Brewery on the morrow.

So far in my (limited, admittedly) testing I have fanatic in MB for when I'm sligh (he does a decent hellrider impression; he's way shittier alone though) and bring in Chandra postboard when I get more sledgehammery. Though the CA generated by Chandra makes Fanatic win for you on the spot a lot of the time. He might be win more in that situation though since you could probably just burn them out with your spells.

I should get some more rigorous testing in Thursday

Yeah, I think Mogis ranges from poor to absurd, in different matchups and board states. I think Chandra is good to absurd, so I lean towards her.

Mogis is definitely the more powerful curve out, and in a dedicated sligh shell, probably just straight better. But I do have a preference for slightly more flexible sligh decks you see...

If you're able to curve out, the Fanatic can hit hard. In those situations, he comes down for 6 to 7. If the field is empty, he pings for 1 and then sits around for a turn. However, he has a surprisingly strong interaction with the Hammer. Comes down to for 3 and then swings for 4 on the same turn.

I think you're right in that Chandra is good in every match up while the Fanatic kind of flops around from terrible to nuts (I've had him burn for 12 before) depending on board state, match up, and whether a ground hog saw his shadow or not that day.

No love for Fanatic of Mogis?
Yet to get a chance to test with it; and I think Chandra is really good in all matchups; Fanatic not so much. Thoughts?
If you're able to curve out, the Fanatic can hit hard. In those situations, he comes down for 6 to 7. If the field is empty, he pings for 1 and then sits around for a turn. However, he has a surprisingly strong interaction with the Hammer. Comes down to for 3 and then swings for 4 on the same turn.

I think you're right in that Chandra is good in every match up while the Fanatic kind of
flops around from terrible to nuts (I've had him burn for 12 before) depending on board state, match up, and whether a ground hog saw his shadow or not that day.
Points for ground hog day reference.
