Damn, I slowly start to love Modern. I mean... seeing all the nice-and-not-broken cards like Gatekeeper of Malakir (IMO he was the most important part of RB Vampires during Zendikar days) or Phyrexian Arena just feels so great. I love the mini-combo of Raven's Crime and Crucible of Worlds!

Martyr-Proc plays a bunch of "fair" cards and is pretty much a tier 1 deck.

Same with B/W tokens. Super fair deck, very solid.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Modern is a pretty cool format. My personal favorite. Lots of people hate it with a passion for one reason or another, but meh.

It's great, though. Very few auto-pilot lol decks around(Eggs was the last one I remember;) it's generally fast and interesting; and it requires players, in most cases, to actually be good at piloting their deck.

Jund is still rampant, though. You'll have to hit Legacy if you want a format that isn't ruled by the big green/red/black menace.

Birthing Pod is pretty much the equivalent of auto pilot, but for the most part I agree with these sentiments.

Fair point. I oft forget about the effectiveness of a well-put-together pod deck since around here so many people try to frankendeck it with other decks(Kiki-Melira-Pod) and other abominations to the point where they become hilariously ambitious.

In my case, that mostly comes from love I have for Zendikar and Scars of Mirrodin. Zendikar, card-wise was probably the best set ever printed for Constructed. So many powerful cards, yet everything was balanced pretty well. Okay, maybe except of Batterskull. Every deck was doing what it does best. GR Ramp was ramping like madman and killing you with lands. Aggro was spamming those 2/2 hasty dudes and throwing friggin Lightning Bolts at you. Even Caw-Blade, while being one of the most powerful decks ever made - was so nice to play against. I mean okay, Tournament-meta was pretty boring - but at least playing against CawCaw was rewarding. At least until Batterskull came.

wow that sucks. Were you pick-pocketed, or
did he hold you up in line somehow? That's crazy, sorry to hear it man.
It's been kind of chilly/rainy here the last few days, so I've been wearing my jacket. My jacket that happens to be a 1920s trench made of genuine leather, worth about $600~. Guy comes up to me, yanks my coat off of my shoulder (I was carrying it over my shoulder) and runs out the door. Had my wallet in the breast pocket.

I'm not as upset about the jacket as much as I am at the fact that I now have to replace everything in my wallet. License, debit, credit, etc. It's such a long, irritating hassle to replace these things.
If this happened to me, I would curbstomp that mutherfucker if I ever caught him. :flame: Sorry to hear about this, man.

Good luck on getting everything replaced.

Don't know if anyone watches Reynad's stream but he drafted an Angelic Accord deck with two Lilliana and is tearing ass. It looks hilarious to play.

I just got back from my LGS's first Saturday Modern tournament, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I took Dega Burn and dropped after going 1-2 and getting the pair-up in round 3. I took a really toolbox sideboard since I had no idea what I'd end up playing against. I won against a Rock discard deck, then lost to UR Pyromaster's Ascension Storm and UG Infect. In both round 2 and 3 I had my opponent down to <3 life, but they managed to push through the damage before I could finish them off.

It's really nice to play in a format like this. Modern, you're alright. The turnout was also very good, much higher than the free FNM Modern events that they tried for a few months. 12 people for this one

Yeah, I've only played in one modern FNM and I loved it. Really neat format.

My LGS is having a win-a-box next Sunday. I had a lot of success with Rakdos aggro but a lot of people will be expecting me to run that. I'm actually considering being a terrible human being and bringing UB control. I haven't played with Frownyard before!

Well, Cedric isn't a real human being. He's actually a cockroach from another planet wearing a black man's skin.

So, by default, you can take all the credit.

See, if I was going to make a smart-ass comment it'd probably be something about asking Alex that if he was one of those douche looking people who wear a leather trenchcoat in the SE in August then why the hell wasn't his wallet on a chain? Did they get his fedora too? Were his boots too heavy to chase the guy down? Etc.

But instead I'll just go with sorry man - that sucks.
