I'm picturing an 8 bit Link holding up an RG deck from a treasure chest.
Sorry Fate...generation gap at work here. My first thought was Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.

So I've been testing this on MODO and it is hilarious:
[deck]
Creatures (16)
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Guttersnipe
4 Hellrider
Spells (22)
4 Faithless Looting
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Shock
4 Searing Spear
3 Wild Guess
3 Brimstone Volley
Lands (22)
22 Mountain
[/deck]
No Mutavaults because I'm poor on MODO now that I've collected most of the shocks in anticipation of a price increase when rotation hits.
It has so many lines of play and I love always having options. I'd like to try and improve it though.

Anyone have thoughts on whether BurnAtTheStake.dec could transpose to Modern? I am almost certainly going to try.

Or some sort of Dark Confidant plus Young Pyromancer deck maybe...hmmmm.

I'll put some work into it when I work on my article some more, I think this deck could be built under the $100 threshold. Obviously the deck is better with fetches and shocks because Spectral Procession is much easier to cast at that point, but even so, I'm sure I can come up with something.
Just for reference, though, here are some spells in Modern that make dudes for value:
Raise the Alarm
Timely Reinforcements
Dragon Fodder
[card]Krenko's Command[/card]
Spectral Procession
[card:
3nnunsoj]Hero of Bladehold[/card]
Lingering Souls
Midnight Haunting
Gather the Townsfolk
Summon the School
So I think there could be something to it. You have a LOT of ways to make absurd amounts of tokens, and they're all spells so they all trigger
Young Pyromancer. You even get a pretty good pick of which spells you want to play based on your manabase, there are many that are 1W and just as many 1R.
I also like that in a deck like this one, as long as you have at least 1 Elemental token and Young Pyromancer,
Infernal Plunge turns into "1R: Add RRR to your mana pool," making it ten times more playable.
As a side note, I really hope that people at my LGS have forgotten about Timely Reinforcements, because if I keep playing this mono red list and people pick that card up, life is going
to get a lot more complicated.

James, here's an Izzet version, I didn't mess around with the token variant using Battle Hymn yet, that'll be next.

Arrigato ^____^
I like that Battle Hymn can let you run rituals 9-12; you can always hold a Pyromancer until turn 3-4 to cast with 1-3 extra spells (1 mana cantrips plus git probe, or chain rituals) to get heavy value. It is quite exciting. RW as you have envisioned might just be better of course.

Also, my article needs a cheap control list. I was thinking of something involving
Story Circle because the card basically shuts off
Splinter Twin and Kikki shenanigans involving
Deceiver Exarch and
Pestermite. (Since they can't hit you for damage with all of their copies, it doesn't really matter how many they have.)

This deck seems kind of fun, and it plays some sweet cards. A little soft to Scapeshift but I think it's pretty decent against a LOT of other stuff.
[deck]Likely unplayable control[/deck]
No sideboard yet but it will probably be some number of countermagic and removal.
I also need more red sources so I can play better red spells, but I couldn't think of any
cheap duals that weren't Shivan Reef.

Keep it up with the modern article, Alex. The first bits were good and interesting, but the last edit was by far the most insightful and helpful.

I worked for Apple in college. They've got a collegiate work program out of University of Florida. Not a bad company to work for, 8/10 would do it again.

Oh I'm sure they're an awesome company to work for. I just don't like their design philosophy so I tend to avoid anything Apple.

Meh, I just don't buy Apple stuff. I don't hate it, I just have no interest in paying 2-3x as much for something that generally doesn't outperform its competitors just because "it's cool" or because you can't get a virus even if you're a real fuck-up.
Of course, the more experience I have with Windows 8, the more interest I have in Apple...

Yes, I figured I'd get a response like that.
Other than it's inability to play Flash video, there's not much else I can't do with the iPad. It's easier to annotate PDFs on the iPad than it is on my desktop computer. That's important to me since I have a small proofreading business on the side. I got used to working with Apple when I was working for a printing company.
Flash, as a technology, is a resource hog and a vulnerability to a lot of systems using it. The newer video codecs offer much higher quality with faster load times.

It definitely is, but like it or not, many MANY web pages are using that technology and we can't just ignore it. Apple's approach is "Ignore it and maybe it will eventually go away" and that's just a huge cop-out.
I could write a novel on the things I don't like about Apple's "i" products, but that's for another time. That said, I would never trade the flexibility of my Transformer for an iPad, and I've used them both.

I do hate Microsoft's tendency to just completely redesign programs with no thought on how those changes will affect longstanding users, however. At this point, I just want them to leave Word and Excel alone. And Windows 8 is an unholy abomination. I shouldn't have an uphill learning curve every time they improve something.
In the end, it boils down to personal preferences for most users. I'm ok with Apple's more "walled garden" approach since it works for me.

And in other news, do you think people who say things like this are aware of how ignorant they sound?
"Matt Singleton, a Baptist minister, is one of the opponents who spoke to the board about why the [new science] standards should not be adopted, according to The Courier-Journal. 'Outsiders are telling public school families that we must follow the rich man’s elitist religion of evolution, that we no longer have what the Kentucky Constitution says is the right to worship almighty God,' Singleton said. 'Instead, this fascist method teaches that our children are the property of the state.'"
This is in regards to the teaching of evolution and man's influence on climate change.

Gotta love how the second dissenter took this line of logic:
teaching evolution in school = socialism
socialism = genocide and murder
If A=B and B=C, then A=C
teaching evolution in school = genocide and murder

In Europe, Australia and Canada, yes. In Asia, Africa and South America, no. The developing parts of the world still think America is hot shit. Japan has a man crush on America.

Canadians are also stupid but it's considered fashionable to make fun of America. We do this as a way of feeling better about being America Juniour. Any Canadian who has spent as much time in America as I have / has critical thinking skills knows that:
A) We have more similarities than differences
B) We have a massive inferiority complex
I like America more than nearly any Canadian you'll meet. Most of my friends are American. I actually have despised most of the Canadians I have met abroad.

And I just found out another new neighbor moved in across from me.
She looks hot. Alli and I are going to deliver brownies to her to "welcome her here. "
Lame? Maybe. Best idea for a recon mission to determine hotness of new neighbor? Definitely.
Threesome inc?
