I don't get why an aggro player would be afraid of this. Its attacking creatures, not blocking...

Is it the lifegain? Because that seems pretty mediocre

This just in from aggro players:

If you want to pay five mana to gain three life against me, enjoy your loss.

The only way this card is good against aggro is if you've got the aggro deck on the defensive, if they're on the beatdown three life a turn is fucking meaningless, not to mention how late this can be activated. (As early as turn 4 if you don't play a blocker on turn 3, which seems miserable.) It's not a good card against aggro.

It makes Aetherling pretty brutal though, I guess.

It doesn't. Giving him counters does. Once you stabilize you stop bouncing him for the most part.
