Things are looking good...

Yeah, 2 mana 3 for 1 is a bit op. It's burning tree emissary that kills a dude on cipt and that's basically unkillable for several turns. Turn 2, play this, kill your guy, ash zealot. Turn 3, kill your guy, thundermaw hellkite.
So basically what you're saying is that "At :1mana: :symr: :symr: this card is Liliana of the Veil."

Damn it I have to choose between running z's red deck or thirst's does rakis deck, decisions :no2:
I'm pretty sure is your running any dynacharge/bte/krenkos mix foundry is a better value than zealot, make Chandra prodigy's +1 have pillars exile effect instead of adding mana and I could see it as something wizards might print if they ever stopped hating on red mages.

I think I'm going to do a Mugging effect actually. It's very much in red's color pie then.

Personally I'm playing Zeman's RW burn at the stake list cause its cheap, interesting, and I definitely think my meta will be soft to it.

I'm going to play it in a large local event, hopefully taking the meta by storm (heh) by keeping the deck secret (since I've only played Scapeahift for modern and draft at FNM for the last month)

If you do go with Dos Rakis, I'm thinking change the list to -1 Loyalist, -1 Mutavault, -2 Guildgate; +2 Mountain, +2 Swamp for this end result:

[deck]Creatures: 26
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble
2 Legion Loyalist
4 Ash Zealot
4 Spike Jester
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Falkenrath
Aristocrat

Spells: 11
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Searing Spear
3 Brimstone Volley

Lands: 23
4 Blood Crypt
4 Dragonskull Summit
3 Mutavault
10 Mountain
2 Swamp[/deck]

Not sure what the SB would look like - I'd like Reckoner against Aggro, but I'm not sure the mana would support it (maybe if I switched out the Swamps for Shrines?), Chandra against Control probably, and Burning Earth or whatever that Enchantment is against all the 3+ color decks. Mortars would probably be an obvious 4-of, though.

23 lands gives a nearly 60% chance of having the mana to curve up to 4.
3 Mutavault is still probably enough mana sinks.
14 1st turn R sources give an 85% chance of having 1+ in opening 7
18 2nd turn R sources and 10 B sources give you a significantly greater chance of having RR or RB than of having either spell that would need those colors.

26 creatures: 18 Haste, 8 Flying, and 8 with resiliency + 3 man lands is a lot of beatdown.
11 burn is a lot of creature control/reach/ways to recur Phoenix

While shrine would help you hit reckon if you're not running them main then its a black source you're paying 2 life to have come in untapped and you'd be better running the swamps at least that's my opinion.

If you want flex mana you could run a couple caverns since every thing short of reckoner (out of the board) and cackldr/phoenix ( main) would share a creature type with at least one other creature. Its not perfect but would help you with Reckoners out of the board if neended.

Don't be afraid to play Shrines simply due to shocking yourself. It's actually a lot easier to play around than you realize. It's rarely a big deal to shock yourself with it if you have to.

There's no question on the Swamp/Shrine option: if I play Reckoner in the board - Shrine; if I don't - Swamp.

The question is if the mana base with 3 Mutavaults will cause any sort of issue with casting Reckoner because in the games I need Reckoner, I kind of need it asap.

I did the calculation for LK earlier, an 18 count colored mana source base can cast reckoner on curve 81% of the time, assuming you draw 1.

If you went with this mana base -
[deck]10 Mountain
4 Blood Crypt
4 Dragonskull Summit
2 Godless Shrine
3 Mutavault[/deck]

The chance of reckoner on curve on the play (assuming you run 4 reckoners) is this -

1 - (4,1)/(60,9) * [ (20,2)(33,6) + (20,1)(33,7) + (20,0)(33,8) ] = 91.6%

The difficulty of hitting double colors (ala Ash Zealot) is relieved somewhat by the extra draw step that you get on turn 3.

Generally, if your deck can hit [mana]RR[/mana] for Ash Zealot, it can hit [mana]RRR[/mana] for Boros Reckoner. That means that you absolutely cannot play your Mutavault before turn 4 if you have a Reckoner in hand, which makes for an interesting tension.

the time it becomes an issue (since I playtest against nuwen dos rakis a lot) is when you're on the draw vs. R/g, have to shock for your reckoner, then he just gets rampager'd over. You're probably in deep shit then

Is the shit significantly less deep if you don't shock yourself in that scenario?

I mean, any time my Reckoner gets Rampaged over I feel pretty well and truely fucked whether I took 2 from my mana base or not.

itd be more manageable situation if you didn't take the 2 to shock yourself, trust me.

There have been soooo many games where nuwens stabilized at 1-4 life and just closed them out with a hellkite+Stonewright in 2 turns or aristocrat etc.

I'm not saying "dun run shocks 2 life is painful hurrrrrkahamlz4prez" I'm just saying in an aggro heavy meta where you need to play your shit on curve to survive the shock damage can be the difference between life and death yes.

We are young, heartache to heartache we stand
No promises, no demands
Love Is A Battlefield
We are strong, no one can tell us we're wrong
Searchin' our hearts for so long, both of us knowing
Love Is A Battlefield

You're beggin' me to go, you're makin' me stay
Why do you hurt me so bad?
It would help me to know
Do I stand in your way, or am I the best thing you've had?
Believe me, believe me, I can't tell you why
But I'm trapped by your love, and I'm chained to your side

We are young, heartache to heartache we stand
No promises, no demands
Love Is A Battlefield

We are strong, no one can tell us we're wrong
Searchin' our hearts for so long, both of us knowing
Love Is A Battlefield

We're losing control
Will you turn me away or touch me deep inside?
And before this gets old, will it still feel the same?
There's no way this will die
But if we get much closer, I
could lose control
And if your heart surrenders, you'll need me to hold

We are young, heartache to heartache we stand
No promises, no demands
Love Is A Battlefield

We are strong, no one can tell us we're wrong
Searchin' our hearts for so long, both of us knowing
Love Is A Battlefield

Love Is A Battlefield

We are strong, no one can tell us we're wrong
Searchin' our hearts for so long, both of us knowing
Love Is A Battlefield
