My mother always encouraged me to be the first in class.

But most of the people in my class hated me and hated a few other guys.

We quickly got used to sit in the last row of class and like be the background noise whenever someone in the front row said something "clever"

The funny thing is that this school was in an uptight neighborhood, so usually the teachers (who mostly came from other places) clearly couldn't stand most of the most snobbish, first in class people.

So we got a pass to most of the things we threw. Some of the uptight people would scream "Oh!" or turn their faces red, but the teacher would pretend they didn't hear anything.

Although I wasn't an exceptional student, I had some small talent for solving math problems in different ways than the normal ones, so in some cases I'd know the answer when the front row wouldn't know.

In this cases the teacher would ask the
question, there would be an awkward silence, and then I'd shout from the rear "FINE! since the front row seems to be asleep at the wheel, I'm gonna answer"

Good times. I made a man of myself in those classes.

we live in a society that tells people that normal things about their body are gross and no one should know about it and that they should be ashamed of it when it happens and that's a really shitty thing in an objective sense. if someone told me i should feel bad
