Hey guys--just heard from windstrider.

Obvious quick decision rendered...in and out before lunch. WS has sole legal and physical custody of his daughter, and his ex gets 1 hour per week supervised visitation. His ex was not in attendance at the proceeding...
Very good news! Was she not there because she's locked up? Or did she just not care to be there?
Thank you everyone!

She's still
in county lockup. Unlike the hearings to obtain the protection order, her presence was not required. The judge could have compelled her to attend, however. According to my lawyer, when he asked about her being present, the judge responded that "she can bond herself out if she wants to attend." :D It sounds like my ex is making quite a name for herself in the Clay County judicial system. As my lawyer noted, they all know what she did.

In addition to sole legal and physical custody, the one hour visitation does not begin until after she is released from jail. The only contact she is to have with our daughter is through letters, of which she has written several. There is a concern that she would try to influence our daughter's testimony in the criminal proceedings against her. The supervised visitation is to take place through a local service that she would have to pay for. I was also awarded
child support retroactive to March of this year, which is to be paid through the state, and I'm entitled to the Social Security Disability payments she was receiving for our daughter.

My lawyer entered all of our evidence against her into the official court documentation, which means it can be used against her in her criminal proceedings, which are to begin later this month on the 29th.

On top of all that, the Guardian ad Litem waived any additional fees in lieu of the $1000 I had already paid to her that both of us were ordered to pay. The judge could have assigned half of those missing fees to me. That was a very generous gesture on her part to waive those fees.

I feel like an immense weight has been lifted off of me, and I want to thank the members of this clan for their support.
You must feel SO relieved. I'm very happy for you and your daughter. From the little I know of the situation, it sounds like the justice system worked this time around.

None taken. A lot of the story came out in the old thread on Sally.

In early December, my ex-wife kidnapped our 16 year old daughter and her 4 year old half-sister and fled with them to Mexico to avoid giving the 4 year old back to her father, who has primary custody. According to my daughter, her stated goal was to get to Belize and live at an artists' colony that she had seen on the Discovery channel. During the trip, she took their cell phones and threw them out the window, so they couldn't be traced. She left Missouri on Friday the 7th and reached Mexico on Sunday the 9th. She and the girls were stopped by
a Mexican military unit somewhere near San Fernando and driven back to Matamoros because they did not have the proper paperwork to be so far in-country. They stayed with someone she had met in Matamoros at a local church until December 18th. She was apprehended by border patrol agents attempting to cross back into the US because she needed to get passports for the girls.

I received a call from Liberty police on December 18th informing me that they had been found. My wife and I left Missouri that night around 11pm and drove straight through to McAllen, Texas to pick up my daughter from Child Services on Dec. 19th. The child services agent told us that it "was an act of God" that the three of them survived their trip to Mexico.

My ex was charged with a Felony Class D Interference with Custody and a Misdemeanor Endangering a Child. She's been in jail since December 18th.

I filed for an order of protection and for sole custody of my daughter in January. The order of protection was granted in
March, and we had the hearing for custody today.

In case anyone's interested, here the link to the initial news story. I'm the dad mentioned at the end. We thought that a missing 4-year old would garner more attention than a missing teenager. It was after this story aired that my ex called the cops to let them know that she and the girls were still alive. If this hadn't aired, then we probably would have never found them since no one expected her to run to Mexico.

Here's the link to the interview we did after we returned with her.

It is still difficult to believe that it really happened. No one, and I mean no one, expected her to run to Mexico. I mean, this is stuff that happens in bad made-for-tv movies or Liam Neeson films. I thought they had gone to Nebraska to hide out with a friend of hers. I didn't realize how much danger they were in until after they had been caught. It makes me just a bit nuts thinking about what could have happened. After today, at least I can lay those fears to rest.

From her letters, my ex still doesn't think she did anything wrong. I know that she thinks her only
mistake was calling the police that night to let them know they were safe. Otherwise, she would have had no problems disappearing with the kids in an attempt to keep them "safe." She blames a friend of hers, who stepped in to help make sure the things in her apartment was taken care of, for the loss of her car and for her inability to hire an attorney.

As long as she is in jail, we're ok. I'm concerned that she'll come here after she is out of jail. If she does, I've already determined that she'll get one verbal warning before I end her ability to cause us any more problems.

@ Alex (and anyone else who came in late to the TV melodramas) - My situation is similar to windstrider's, only without the kidnapping and running to Mexico (hell no...my wife instead bought us all non-refundable cruise tickets to Mexico when she knew things were going south). In December of 2010, I got an order of protection taken out against my wife and had her removed from the house. Very long story short--batshit crazy borderline with major childhood abuse issues (I still don't know the full story there) started drinking and abusing prescription drugs. Given her addictive personality traits and her having had gastric bypass years before, she went full-blown alcoholic/addict at record speed. Our kids were unsafe with her, and she was threatening at the time that I had her removed from the house that she was going to take the kids against my objection and drive 200 miles out-of-state to her
parents house for Christmas. Did not let that happen.

Whereas Windstrider's ex went the high drama route and did stuff that was blatantly illegal and drew national media attention, mine was far more insidious. She chameleoned remarkably well and had me painted as the abusive control-freak; we had a young, inexperienced Guardian Ad Litem who wanted to give her every chance for redemption, and thus spent over a year in divorce proceedings. She could only front for so long, and I eventually had to resort to putting in hidden cameras in the house to prove she was continuing to drink (against a zero-tolerance court order) while staying over with the kids on my work nights. Once I had that evidence, opinions shifted quickly in my favor, but she still managed to make everything more complicated, dramatic and expensive than it should ever have been. Finally, in February of 2012, she had to sign off on a parenting plan of my design. I have sole legal and physical custody; she has a progressive visitation
plan based on sobriety, but again she never got clean in the first place and as of a few months ago the kids (now 15 and 12) shut down communication with her due to her impairment. She lost her job, and thus is failing to provide court-ordered child support; I could take her to court over it and likely land her in jail, but at this point it would just cost me more money that I don't have. Last I heard from her was a message she left on the phone at 4:30 AM one morning this week; in the message she talks about it being late evening, totally oblivious to real time in her impaired state. I'm still getting calls daily from creditors looking for her for the tens of thousands of dollars in debt she's run up (it was over $70,000 when I had her removed from the house and extricated my finances from hers...I can't imagine what she owes by now).

To round out the Three Amigos bit, redthirst was also married to crazy (we think we found and married the Ginger Borderline Triplets, separated at birth). However,
he managed to persuade his that he could and would remove her from existence if she persisted in her borderline bullshit. Thus, we are three dads who went against the system norms and did what we had to to get out of Oz and protect our kids.

Thank you kindly! I most certainly will post pictures as they come in from various sources. We have one official photographer. And being college-kids with college-aged friends, we of course have seven photography majors attending who will more than likely use this event as an opportunity to flex their creative muscles. Yeah, bound to be many pictures.

Thank you, sasky. It's been rough for all of us. My
ex, like photo's ex, is very manipulative. Prior to their disappearance, she had been telling our daughter all kinds of lies about me. She isolated her so that she didn't ask me about any of it, which is classic borderline stuff. In a sense, we've had to "deprogram" my daughter from all the lies and half-truths my ex laid on her. About a month ago, my daughter looked at me and said "For someone who says she hates liars, mom sure lies a lot, doesn't she?"

I just want to put the past behind me and leave it there for a while.

Whenever I hear Dan (windstrider) or Jerry (photodyer) talk about their exes, I feel like such a whiner even considering my problems. "Boo hoo my girlfriend and I broke up but I'm still a stud with a big brain and good health. Woe is me!"

The amount of bullshit that these men can overcome while remaining calm and decent astounds me. My hat is off to you both.

Thanks, ham. :)

I'm not so sure I'd categorize myself as calm though. I tell people that it's ok when I'm ranting and raving; I'm getting it out of my system. It's when I speak in calm, measured, even tones that I've truly journeyed beyond the realms of normal anger.

I've also had
quite a bit of practice with my ex and her nonsense, 15 years worth. This isn't the first crisis I've weathered with her. It's certainly the most serious, but not the first. At a certain point, you just learn to deal with the situation while appearing calm. You put aside everything else and deal with what's happening. That calm is a defense mechanism, a way of shutting down other emotions that would just get in the way. Make sure everyone's ok and then fall apart later.

I completely fell apart after we had driven to Texas and picked up my daughter. I can't even begin to describe the storm of emotions that tore through me. I would have happily strangled my ex at that moment, consequences be damned.

One day I'll type up my story. It doesn't involve any children, but it does involve a girl with extensive medieval combat training and muscle tone the likes of which have never been seen on a non-gym-going woman.

She was a knight at Medieval Times, and to tl;dr it, she loved to smack around her significant other whenever possible. :scared: That was a hellish year.

You did tell us a little about her a while back...I remember you recounting being attacked with a knife by one who knew how to use it. You definitely belong in our little subgroup of SLuG (Survivors of Lunatic Gingers).

@ham - Ditto what Dan said...the calm now says nothing about some of the
emotional storms of the past. I had grown into a very snarky individual through the years with Karen, and didn't really see the whole picture until I got her outside the ability to exert so much negative influence. The amount of chaos that a borderline generates to keep everyone off-kilter is just staggering, and at one point my temper was so explosive that I questioned my sanity. One good thing that came from her descent into substance abuse was my seeking counseling and finding someone who knew the score and helped me to see what I owned and what I didn't. Once I stopped accepting responsibility for all the crap she tried to lay at my feet, I leveled out and learned to let her button-pushing slide off.

Took my Bant Flash deck to top 4 tonight, used the credit I had to get a free Ral Zarek out of the deal. I played shitty jank decks all night though as a most of the better players weren't around tonight. I would have gotten crushed against a real aggro deck. So this deck is out. Catching up on the last couple of pages while at work (4 straight days of intense 12 hour madness) and I'm just astounded by the amount of trials my Clan brothers have overcome. Cheers to all you men.I've realized this: the FoS is where boys go to become men, and men go to become demigods.

@Kaze- Good luck and congrats on your big day.

@ham- yes, I'm thoroughly addicted to GoT now. Just started season 2 and I really want to see that inbred child king beheaded. Oh, and more naked scenes of Dragon lady and that redhead whore. :)

@Alex- knife wielding Ginger? Yikes.

@Dodger- free Ral? Fuck yeah. Congrats on some victories.

Sometimes you guys make our poly-amorous marriage/web seem normal and tame by comparison. There is something to be said about having a girlfriend whos husband you like and also gets along with your wife, your wife's girlfriend and your wife's boyfriend; who all make fun of you together for being heteroflexible. Apparently mocking me mercilessly is the quickest way for four people to bond lol

@Zeman:

Dismembers over victim of night imo.

-2 Geth's Verdict -1 Thoughtseize +3 Inquisition of Kozilek

Discard is good to get rid of Kitchen Finks. You already have Lilys so no real need for additional sac effects.

You can play the verdicts and other spot removal in the side to fight midrange decks.

@Kaze congrats bro! May your stomach, hearth and bed always be full and warm! Always be honestly communicating about everything, good bad crazy dark light or silly. That's my advice from the guy in a marriage and multiple relationships :P also lotusbloomsalexandria dot com. Wifey is teaching the couples oral class soon ;)

@wind great news man. Buddy at work just went thru the same thing, cept Interpol was involved which happens when your crazy flees to Korea. Just got sole custody and is now with the chick who he should have married.

@Alex goddamn dude sounds like a horrible reverse lifetime movie plot.

@ham you need to write a 200 page self help book based on the challenge. It would sell.

Back from a long day at the local tournament. 5-3 with my Gruul Big Swings list.

Achievements of the day
- do a 20-point damage swing with 2x Gyre Sage with 3 counters each, Borderland Ranger, and 2x Thundermaw Hellkite.
- resolve Ruric Thar against Bant with them at 6 life.
- steal a Thrag with Conscripts, swing for 8, then use Domri's -2 with Conscripts and the Thrag.

For LP:

[deck]
3 Snapcaster Mage

4 Burning Vengeance

4 Desperate Ravings
1 Devil's Play
3 Dissipate
2 Dreadbore
1 Essence Scatter
4 Forbidden Alchemy
3 Geistflame
1 Izzet Charm
1 Sever the Bloodline
2 Syncopate
4 Think Twice
2 Tribute to Hunger

4 Blood Crypt
2 Desolate Lighthouse
4 Drowned Catacombs
4 Steam Vents
4 Sulfur Falls
3 Watery Grave

1 Island
3 Mountain[/deck]

I think Burning Vengeance doesn't look too bad at the moment; Abrupt Decay and Oblivion Ring are cards, but you have so much dig you'll eventually find more copies than they have answers. You get to blank any removal in your opponents deck; you don't care about sweepers etc; with an active vengeance, even jund's creatures are pretty unexciting. You'd definitely want a way to deal with Drownyard in the board though!

I'm not saying the archetype has been overlooked; I just think it has more life than perhaps it is been
given credit.

UWR with a black splash is better. You get to play Verdict, Feeling of Dread, and Lingering Souls.

Oh, word to the wise. If you're looking for any fun with the ladies, don't take any nasal decongestants. I had some performance issues last night and learned that Phenylephrine, the active ingredient in Mucinex, causes erectile dysfunction. Whoops! I was not pleased.

Next time I'll trade the stuffy nose for a hard-on.
