I have a project, to sort out my modern legal cards from the rest. Only problem is, I have 10 binders. So far I've done lands, artifacts, multicolors, and blacks. It isn't helping that I have to check many of the pre-8th edition cards if they're legal in Modern or not.

@Ham: Way to be amazing.
In other news, tonight was supposed to be standard night and I was going to unleash Dos Rakis on my gamestore, but nobody showed up so we drafted. It was my first draft in about a year and a half but I was able to win. We all had a good laugh because in our 4 person draft, we pulled 3 shocks, Gideon, Deathrite Shaman, and Boros Reckoner(mine). We also did double GTC and a middle pack of RTR. I ended up with a pretty nice dega deck. Boros Reckoner, double pit fight, 4 extort guys, mad cap skills, and some fliers. Game one, I definitely played used pit fight to have my reckoner wrath my opponents board.
Tomorrow I do job training to be a black jack dealer(cake), Friday it's my first gig and MAYBE FNM, and Saturday's the pre-release followed by hanging out with a lovely lady.

And we start the day in fine debauched form! Mornin', gents...gods but I hate early mornings. Had you seen that portrait of Mal before, rt? Dos Santos does the covers of the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs, which I like. That is, the art and the books...man, I'm about as clear as mud this morning.

Never seen it, but it is pretty baller.
I saw a Firefly meme or something the other day that was pretty cool - it was the crew standing in front of Serenity and it said:
Firefly Addiction: 13 Hours of Euphoria
Followed by a Lifetime of Sorrow.
Which is pretty spot-on, so it's basically meth.

The R/x forum is where I go to make myself feel better when I start doubting myself as a magic player because I know I could never be as bad as those scrubs. Plus Z's rants/insults/cold, hard truths make me laugh.

Truer words, my friend...my kids complain about it ever more vociferously that I do, asking in typical teenage naivete why the cast doesn't "just get back together and start the show up again".Never seen it, but it is pretty baller.

Yeah, this art show is going to be a very, very dangerous thing...I need to hide the credit cards from myself before I go. The Friday night party with the artists should be interesting...

My head gets bent both ways...part of me wants to look at the game with the seriousness of chess and learn to play the best cards and the tightest game. But there's another side of me that really likes trying to make janky, off-the-wall stuff work using some of the more flavorful cards. The word "game" has this whole continuum of meaning and I often am at odds with myself over where I want to be on that curve. The R/x forum is where I go to make myself feel better when I start doubting myself as a magic player because I know I could never be as bad as those scrubs. That R/G sligh thread...man, what a cesspool.
I actually played a guy running Vexing Devil in his R/G deck at my LGS yesterday. I was telling him how bad it was and that he needed to replace it with Cacklers and/or Stromkirk Noble, but he kept saying "He did damage to you! That's all I want." He literally could not wrap his head around the concept of him being a bad choice for an aggro deck, but also admitted that he rarely plays red. After durdling with my UB deck a bit, I decided to pull out my mono red deck and pound him in the face a few times to show him how red is really played. The guy seemed to think the only thing you can do with red is attack, and I made him pay DEARLY for that mindset.
I'm still having a hard time convincing my LGS owner that he's bad, but this is the same guy that thinks red is so easy to play. It's not easy to play, I just make it look easy, which is sad because I'm nowhere near
the skill level that the top red mages are.

The difference is that you wouldn't go into the Proven Competitive sub to create a thread about your new janky fun cards just like I wouldn't go into someone's thread about their "fun" theme deck to tell them how uncompetitive it'd be in a tournament. My head gets bent both ways...part of me wants to look at the game with the seriousness of chess and learn to play the best cards and the tightest game. But there's another side of me that really likes trying to make janky, off-the-wall stuff work using some of the more flavorful cards. over where I want to be on that curve.
These guys do exactly that.
Either they don't know that their jank-ass ideas don't belong in that sub - which means they're idiots - or they don't know that their ideas are uncompetitive jank - which means they're idiots - or they know both and they do it anyway - which means they're idiots. Either way, they deserve nothing but our scorn until they can do better.

Regarding VD in the 18 land Gruul Sligh deck: if it's going to be good in Aggro, that's where it'll see play - a deck that cares about nothing past a turn 3-4 win.

The thing that bends a lot of people's heads (mine for sure) I think is that many cards have a (my word of the day) continuum of potential. In a given meta, they can be fantastic, but then as the meta changes they are unplayable. That's hard to swallow sometimes, especially with cards/archetypes inYeah, I was just browsing around and was like: "Z is going hard today, what pissed him off?" And then I see posts like this:Yeah, LeoninKha, what are you talking about? This guy has no ego at all!
In a nutshell, can someone explain to me why Vexing Devil is bad? I don't think he can be that bad....
which someone has a significant financial and/or emotional investment. Hell, zeman won a TNMO last year playing VD in a burn deck...but it's hard for people to conceptualize that in the current Standard that same concept is not viable. I know I get that kind of tunnel vision...it drives me nuts that Dos Rakis isn't viable since GTC because I LIKE the deck. And I get flat-out pissed when there are cards I like that I just can't make work competitively...it's hard not to take personally.
