P.S.: I'm a fan of horror/splatter movie in general, so I'd be glad to enlarge the discussion on the whole genre.

Evil Dead Remake
I'm really, really excited about this remake. It seems one of the few done well (isn't it true, Texas Chainsaw Massacre?). The trailer are.... somehow disturbing. And I like that atmosphere, it was the same in the original Evil Dead. There some rumors too about a sequel and... Army of Darkness 2. You know why? HUGE SPOILER AHEAD, ATTENTION.
Can't wait to see it, here in Italy will be release on 9th of May.
P.S.: I'm a fan of horror/splatter movie in general, so I'd be glad to enlarge the discussion on the whole genre.

So true, so true.... The best one for me are from the '70-'80s, but also some older and newer are really good. My favourite one by the way is "Inferno", by Dario Argento. That was the period when he was still able to do some real movies. This got pretty decent reviews so I'll check it out. Good horror films are so hard to find.

Personally, I trust Sam Raimi to have enough love for his original to do both it and the new one justice. He's like the Kevin Smith of horror movies, he'd rather make the movie he wants or not make it at all. But then again, I'm completely biased, I've seen the original Evil Dead like a billiondy times so even if it is just a rehash with, you know, a budget, I'm pretty sure I'd love it.

Good god, you're for sure a fan. I love horrors, but those are too much for me too. I prefer much more "so bad it's so good" (Braindead anyone?) that bad-made horrors.I love horror movies so much that I enjoyed House of Wax and My Bloody Valentine.
If a horror movie makes me jump, I liked it.
I think that it's halfway between a remake and an original story from the reviews I've read here.if it's an original script and is scary or at least well written then i love horror, i hate rehashes though.
i'll take a hellraiser 11 over another halloween remake any day
I agree with you. I've seen much more than twice Army of Darkness too. Bruce is an idol. Hail to the king, baby!Personally, I trust Sam Raimi to have enough love for his original to do both

I have no idea. Seriously, just the sight of the dude makes my skin crawl, and that's all I know.Okay seriously, I gotta know what is with the hate on for Bruce Campbell?Bruce Campbell is a whore.
I will say that the fact that I can see him in damn near any movie, regardless of the subject matter, is what makes me call him a whore.

the same question. Thanks for your explanation, to me it's the same with Audrey Tatou. I can't stand her.

I was talking about the Oz movie, because Bruce Campbell's part was one of the best, least painful parts of that movie. So I was saying you must have really hated it.Which movie?
I've never seen the original Evil Dead (though it's on NetFlix and I keep telling the hubby I'll watch it with him. I just have no desire to watch it myself.) so if you're talking about that one, I can't say that.
If you're talking about Oz, I was greatly disappointed in it.

I can understand what you mean, I was just making bad jokes. I hated the movie, the only scene I enjoyed was the opening credits and the Campbell scene, but that's only really because it was like "hey, that's that dude all my friends really like" and it wasn't as terrible as other scenes.I was disappointed with it, but I hated seeing him in it!

Lol.
I finally saw the original last night.
It was scary and gross, so I liked it. I just didn't like him.
Though, now that I've seen it, I think I expected it to be campy and goofy because HE'S campy and goofy, but it wasn't. It was excessively gross, but that's generally a good thing to have in horror movies.

Yeah, they didn't embrace the campy goofiness until evil dead 2. I just wish someone had the sense to keep Sam Raimi away from Oz.

In Evil Dead 2 they are even worse to me, but I think that in the 2nd episode it's a good choise since the "comedy" turns in that movie. The special effects were terribad, though.
But the mini-Ash in Army of Darkness is priceless.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wut?
Don't pass judgment on Campbell until you've seen Army of Darkness, Manders. There is absolutely no better movie for him to be in, and it is the crowning achievement of all campism (well, actually, Campbell's cameo in Darkman probably takes that particular title but still).

I'm a pretty big fan of the original Evil Dead series. I actually think Evil Dead 2 strikes the best balance between the comedy and humor elements of the franchise.
I also saw the remake--I liked it OK, but it was missing something. I really disliked the actors and the attempt to create an emotionally relevant backstory for the protagonists--it falls very flat. Not many surprises (a few, especially towards the end). Good special effects and plenty gory. Eh.
