Fuckin 10/10Well he himself is really weird looking and it shows in the monk. The eyes look crossed and crooked. It's like if Lenny from Of Mice and Men was petting a lotus to deathI can't quite figure out why, but Jacob Wilson's monk token is creepy as fuck to me.

Seeing how big the payoff is for Fat commons. Harsh sustenance wasn't as big a payoff as I thought. GB and RW where actually just good color combinations. UG is something I'm looking forward to trying since ethereal ambush seems good. Why are you drafting enemy colors?1-2 UB2-0 in MTGO DTK drafts so far
GW
UW splash Deathmist Raptor
2-1 RW
3-0 GB
2-1 BW
1-2 BW
UB was first draft and got unlucky with an insane deck. RW deck was also great. GB deck was very good. Both BW decks where fairly mediocre.
I'm pretty sure GW is good and I think there's some kind of aggressive U deck in the format.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
Beatdown is hard, though.

wait until after PT, the entire meta could shift in a drastic way even if the format stays open. obv also a chance it just gets busted by some super team.
@kaits: what do you like in this draft format? I can't win with anything other than snowball aggressive decks (barring the dumb mythics, because you aren't beating the dragons usually). It feels pretty gatecrashy, but with Avacyn level power disparities between cards.

It doesn't, but I figured, since I'm open to drafting literally any combination, might as well figure out how good 3rd pack commons are since sustenance and possibly ambush are unique in there power level.the third pack really shouldn't be motivating your direction
As I said, BG and RW where just really good draft color combos and they where the open colors both times I drafted them so picking up grim contests and war flares respectively where freerolls, not incentive.

i like the faster pace, feels more skill intensive in regards to combat than khans did. not just "block, lose to common gold unmorph." the combat tricks are actually playable and the creatures are all so good that they make the absurd amount of removal tolerable.wait until after PT, the entire meta could shift in a drastic way even if the format stays open. obv also a chance it just gets busted by some super team.

i've literally only done 3 drafts so far, fallen into white in every one. green has been good. blue seems great. i hate most of the black creatures, although the removal is strong. not a fan of dash in general but red is fine if burn pulls you in.
i need to do more than 3 drafts before i can pretend i know what i am talking about.
i didn't mind gatecrash so...

since i double posted, may as well use it. I'd probably jam something like this next week.
[deck]Creatures
4 Elvish Mystic
4 Sylvan Caryatid
3 Voyaging Satyr
4 Courser of Kruphix
4 Deathmist Raptor
1 Temur Sabertooth
3 Polukranos, World Eater
4 Whisperwood Elemental
2 Arbor Colossus
Spells
4 Mastery of the Unseen
3 Dromoka's Command
Lands
9 Forest
2 Plains
1 Blossoming Sands
4 Temple of Plenty
4 Windswept Heath
4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
Sideboard
1 Dromoka's Command
2 Den Protector
3 Hornet Nest
2 Glare of Hersey
1 Arbor Colossus
1 Polukranos, World Eater
2 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
3 Genesis Hydra[/deck]
You still have a bunch of ways to just go bigger than GR Aggro and not every draw is reliant on drawing Nykthos when you don't snap jam a bunch of clunky Genesis Hydra MD. If you expect just zero blue decks, then go nuts being as over-the-top as possible, the MODO lists even jam MD Ugin nowadays. Otherwise you already have the edge as long as you don't die to Dragons or Crater's Claws. Hence a lot more fighting and Arbor Colossus compared to other lists.

Cool, thanks. My main issue with blue is that it's difficult to get a good curve rolling along, but I've only done seven drafts so small sample size. The combat tricks all range from good to playable, which is def. interesting and why I like attacking a ton in this format. I'll need to try white, it's the only color I generally haven't had any feel for.i like the faster pace, feels more skill intensive in regards to combat than khans did. not just "block, lose to common gold unmorph." the combat tricks are actually playable and the creatures are all so good that they make the absurd amount of removal tolerable.wait until after PT, the entire meta could shift in a drastic way even if the format stays open. obv also a chance it just gets busted by some super team.

This happens a lot with SCG Opens, it's actually interesting how much faster they react (or overreact) now compared to two or three years ago.I like how the entire SCG open was RG and Abzan agro.
Week 1 (Open, not invi) was Abzan, Red, G/R and randoms.
Week 2 was Abzan Aggro (aka: the one that doesn't require metagaming), Jeskai, Red and G/R Aggro.
Week 3 will probably be Devotion, Red, Abzan Control and Sidisi Whip decks.

You're right Khaos. This Todd Anderson guy is just alright. He too values playing to make nerds angryBut I was looking back over my shoulder every time I sat down for a match, checking to see what round the Standard Open was in. Making sure that I still had time to drop and join should I lose.
But the loss never came.
And I kept winning, round after round, knocking each and every one of my opponents out of Top 8 contention. I was the executioner, and hot damn did it feel good.

If he's like the other CFB crew I'd bet on him liking the deck regardless of its position in the meta.

I think if you play Jeskai colors and don't play Jeskai Ascendancy, then something is horribly wrong. So I'm not a big fan of the Mantis Rider / Seeker / Soulfire / Ojutai shells that people like Kevin Jones are on. One of the biggest upsides of the deck is that people can make small tweaks to the deck and punish people for being too aggressive or too conservative with their lines and opps just have to make guesses. Oh, you played a Downfall on my Thunderbreak Regent I played on 5? Enjoy your 3 damage and Stubborn Denial, gg:no re. Same reason Jeff Hoogland keeps winning with theme decks that can't win in anybody elses hands. Meanwhile the few pro players are just jamming tier one decks teched for the mirror.Jsilv, what's your opinion on Jeskai aggro as an archetype?
On the flipside, I think Jeskai Tokens is great because Ascendancy is still completely unfair and the extra token generators make you really good against the removal packages of everyone in the format. Ojutai and Ascendancy* also gives you a way to not snap lose to people jamming things like Doomwake Giant.
*totes most adorble combos
On the flip side, Jeskai Tokens is still soft to dying to mono red before the good cards come online, is soft to Ugin (how relevant that is... up for debate) and the mono flier plan is a lot better against Jeskai now because of Thunder Dragon.
I actually made fun of a few of the guys for continuing to pimp the deck when it became clear that it was mostly winning bc the pilots were better than 99% of the field. Still in a way it foresaw what's happening now once a few more competitively costed fliers were printed. Suddenly the weaker spot removal and focus entirely on Siege Rhino or going around him is irrelevant because ohhhh derf we could just be dead and never even have an opportunity to block once in a game.If he's like the other CFB crew I'd bet on him liking the deck regardless of its position in the meta.

Trust me, the Todd Anderson you read is not the same as the Todd Anderson you meet. You're right Khaos. This Todd Anderson guy is just alright. In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.

Yes, wandering in the stark desert of failed comedy was me, a flowering oasis of comedy genius.
Disciples sang out about my many deeds. Statues were carved in my likeness. Men followed in my wake, just hoping to get a glimpse of the one man who would lead them out of the bleak torment that were their unhumorous lives.
Ah yes, I remember those days.
