the disparity in opinion between the two reddit threads was a great way to kill time this afternoon.
He did a shitty thing and is probably being punished adequately for it, and this is just going to embolden the way you feel about him one way or the other. Unless you're that kind of person where you lose your shit and are like were you lying to me this whole time how dare you you monster

Although i don't know james as well as most of you, i'm very sorry for what happened. All i want to say is that it can happen... it shouldn't, but it can. And since it is the first time he must be forgived, everyone deserve a second chance.
This episode though is encouraging me to move on in regard to an issue i've been thinking for a lot of time : there is a channelfireball writer that i know personally and cheats many times at local tournaments (he also had been disqualified years ago). I would really like to inform someone on this issue, but who could i write to?

By local events i mean fnm level or even non sanctioned events, although people i know saw him cheating in a recent PTQ. I know the best solution would just be catch him cheating and call a judge, but in the meantime i could inform someone so that at least he is controlled when he plays at high profile events.

It's just hearsay unless he's caught by a judge.

If you emailed CFB, do you think they'd just believe you and reprimand him?

We discussed this and if James feels comfortable/wants to post something around here I think we would more than happy to give him a more sheltered venue if he feels the need to explain himself or just share some words. You guys could probably mod the thread so that wouldn't devolve on a lynching thread.
If he wants to post something in the frontpage that's cool too.
You're a good man, and I completely agree. He will always find a home on DTR if he feels like it.
In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

As much as I'm usually the first person to get on James' case, I'm not going to do that here. CFB, WotC, and the rest of the world are going to be hard enough on him as it is.
He's human. He made a poor decision. Whether you're a professional card player or an engineer, cheating is a temptation we all face. He mentioned he caved to the pressure of having to put up results. I've seen the kind of pressure that can come from the need to produce results and I have seen engineers and managers cheat the rules to get a project done. I've not had to face that pressure yet, so I can't begin to judge James for the decision he made.
I can tell you, though, if I ever play a game of Magic with him, I'm going to ask him to play standing up and with short sleeves.
James is going to be an example of why cheating is never worth the risk. He hasn't even begun to learn how much this will affect his career. The consequences must be harsh, else there is no deterrent to others. If he ever does get into the competitive scene again, he will be playing under a microscope. Will CFB ever consider hiring him again? We don't know, but it'll be a long road to it if they do. James is going to have to prove himself all over again because his previous wins will be chalked up to cheating that wasn't caught and every future win will be analyzed to be sure it was legit.

I'm really not good at this.
The point I want to drive is that everyone else is going to be hard enough on him. We don't need to be. He got his lesson and there's more on the way. What he needs right now is some friends he can talk to.
James, if you do come through here reading this stuff, I'm here for you. PM or email me if you'd like.
It's going to be alright.

I ended 9 -5 -1 first big tourney, not happy but that's how it ended.
My first huge event like this I hadn't slept for many hours, and its a bit more stressful in person.
One thing I've learned is a lesson about variance, and how you must not let it make you tilt. There are a lot of matches and games to be played and lost so don't let the ones that got away infuriate you when they win off that 1 card they needed to topdeck.
I had to step back and say "Don't TILT" and remind myself that it happened just as much for me as anyone else a couple times that day.
The other difficulty I felt I faced was thinking that I'm supposed to be learning something from every match. I don't know if that's the case or not but wanting to get better going forward there were a lot of my wins there were essentially "Thoughtsieze...Rabblemaster...Rabblelmaster....???... Win". Mean while there were a lot of my losses that were some iteration of the same thing.
Siding is more important than you can imagine, and the more interactive games are pretty damn fun. I saw the interaction between soulfire grand master and anger of the gods post siding , as my opponent gained 27 life and board swept me. I still won that game and he was unbelievably cool about it, I hope I can be that guy one day soon.
The whole thing wasn't fun, and I think its because I'm not more active in my Local Mtg scene. Maybe I'll get there soon.
On cheating: Its can get tempting, the desire to "win at any cost" is probably lurking somewhere in all of us. So I'm not going to act like he violated all that is good and holy because failed that test. We're all going to fail moral tests like that at some point in our lives. Its hard to take the MTG community seriously because they literally never stop talking shit (at least online) and now no matter what James does in magic, there's going to be some punk ass in the background whispering "cheater".
All that being said, I think it is about ego, I don't think Mr.Fazzolari needs the money most likely so let this type of thing might be the KIND of humbling experience that every great player inevitably needs. I still think he has some insights to share, and if he comes round here, I wouldn't fuck with him about it. James, you gotta know who your people are man. *bro hug*

What a fucking mess. People are such fucktards. How long do you get removed for cheating for, or is that a TBD thing?
Edit: I'm really wanting to get to the buisness of building a better red/x deck. i mean... I remember when we used to actually do that.

I just want to hear his (honest) motivation for it. The guy wrote this: viewtopic.php?f=96&t=602, why he thought he needed to cheat is beyond my comprehension.
