Vs Abzan, I board -4 lightning strike, -4 Seeker, +2 Sarkan, +4 Hushwing, +2 Glare. Works well.

Sitting here with a pile of cards in front me.... Looking at end hostilities, but the only deck I want it against is Gx devotion, and MAYBE Abzan. At that point, wouldn't I just want access to 3-4 valorous stances? End hostilities looks pretty bad against a resolved Whisperwood.

Here is what I think I am going to try tomorrow at TNM:

[deck]
1 Soulfire Grandmaster
3 Seeker of the Way
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Hushwing Gryff
4 Stormbreath Dragon

2 Wild Slash
3 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Valorous Stance
4 Hordeling Outburst

2 Outpost Siege
1 Chandra, Pyromaster

SB
1 Wild Slash
3 Arc Lightning
1 Scouring Sands
2 Monasteey Mentor
1 Valorous Stance
1 Erase
1 Hushwing Gryff
1 End Hostilities
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Glare of Heresy

[/deck]

SB plans to come in a few

Against hornet queen and Genesis hydra HWG seems good.

And I am not sure if hornet queen is that popular in the decks.

2 Monasteey Mentor
1 Valorous Stance
1 Erase
1 Hushwing Gryff
1 End Hostilities
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Glare of Heresy

[/deck]
Mono Red: I think this is pretty self explanatory, and I don't think much changes play vs draw.
+1 Wild Slash +3 Arc Lightning +1 Scouring Sands
-2 Valorous Stance -2 Hushwing Gryff -1 SBD

U/W Heroic:
+1 Wild Slash +1 Erase +2 Glare +1 End Hostilities
-2 Valorous Stance -2 Hushwing Gryff -1 Outpost Siege

Mentor could possibly be better than Chandra/Outburst.

Maybe on the Draw: +1 Wild Slash +1 Erase +2 Glare +1 End Hostilities +2 Mentor / -2 Valorous Stance -2 Hushwing Gryff -1 Outpost Siege -2 Outburst (or maybe Rabble?)

Gx Devo *Could use some help here
+1 End Hostilities +1 Wild Slash +1 Valorous Stance
-2 Hushwing Gryff -X

I also think I want Arc Lightning, just not sure what should be cut. I feel like play/draw it def varies. On the draw, maybe I cut Seeker, on the play cut lightning strikes?

Abzan Mid
+1 Hushwing Gryff +1 Valorous Stance +2 Glare +2 Sarkhan
-3 Lightning Strike -2 Wild Slash -1 Seeker

On the draw maybe I want the end hostilities.

Post more later tonight, would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the above list and sb plan.

Which card to play at any given point within the next two months is going to be rather fluid. It's all dependent on how much enchantment hate people are playing, how many Hero's Downfalls people are playing, and how aggressive the meta is. I currently like Chandra maindeck in any list running Brimaz, and Outpost Siege coming out of the sideboard.

Siege should still be played because if nothing else, it's bonkers in the mirror. Chandra's good, siege is bonkers. Takes all the skill out of it unfortunately.

2-2 tonight with my list above. Beat jeskai tokens, abzan aggro, lost to jeskai tokens and gr devotion.

Thinking of running this change on Thursday

[deck]
1 Soulfire Grandmaster
3 Seeker of the Way
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Hushwing Gryff
4 Stormbreath Dragon

2 Wild Slash
3 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Valorous Stance
4 Hordeling Outburst

2 Outpost Siege
1 Chandra, Pyromaster

SB
1 Wild Slash
3 Arc Lightning
2 Monastery Mentor
1 Valorous Stance
1 Erase
1 Hushwing Gryff
2 End Hostilities
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Glare of Heresy
[/deck]

Hushwing was pretty bad tonight, but I am still not sure if I want to cut because I hate losing to double siege rhino draws. Monastery Mentor could get cut, but I am not sure what for. GR decks packing wild slash and arc lightning is shitty. Hushwing seems ok vs reclamation sage, and disciple.

Any suggestions Val, LP, LD and Khaos? You guys seem to have a lot more reps than I do. Got a pptq and an iq this weekend, and with a lot of player going to the gp, it shouldn't be AS stacked with players. Feeling lost :iiam:

Mentor is terrible, do not play. Play 2 brimaz somewhere in your seventy five. Max out seekers before playing grandmaster.

I'd play the fourth Seeker before the first Grand Master. I'd also play Brimaz over Hushwing. The latter is mediocre in a lot of match ups whereas Brimaz is great in some, good in others, and average in very few.

Alright. Need opinions on my list. Playing at a new store, and I hear that there's a lot of control. I don't know if that means UB, or Abzan, or whatever. So what does this look like for an unknown meta?

[DECK]
Lands (24)
4 Battlefield Forge
1 Evolving Wilds
9 Mountain
5 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph
1 Wind-Scarred Crag

Creatures (15)
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Seeker of the Way
1 Soulfire Grand Master
4 Stormbreath Dragon

Spells (21)
4 Chained to the Rocks
4 Hordeling Outburst
4 Lightning Strike
2 Outpost Siege
4 Stoke the Flames
2 Valorous Stance
1 Wild Slash

Sideboard (15)
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
3 Arc Lightning
2 Erase
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Hushwing Gryff
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Wild Slash
[/DECK]

Also, I can switch to something that is more effective if it's warranted. I have everything to make Boss Sligh, Jeskai Tokens, Jeskai Tempo, R Aggro, Mardu Midrange, and Mardu Aggro.

Also thinking about the 2 Wild Slash in the mainboard. I'd think that 2 VS instead could more valuable against control (kill a Tasigur or protect a creature from a removal).
Maybe doing 2 to the dome is still something.

I will try 1 Soulfire Grand Master when I find one.

Yeah, I'll probably swap Slash and Stance. Bring in Slash for the aggro matchup.

what do you guys think about end hostilities in sideboard vs midrange?

i mean we play sarkhan, chandra, outpost siege, which all survive end hostilites. phoenix does not really dies too.

dont you think it should be good enough as a 2-off?

Depends on your expected meta. If you expect a lot of green decks or UB control, play Ashcloud. For all other metas play Brimaz.

Well, we are also talking of a 3 drop vs a 4 drop. If you choose brimaz over phoenix you can afford to play more chandras/sieges.

Because Brimaz is WW, you often do not play him on turn 3. I mostly see him as a 4-drop slot, he's not on the same level as Rabblemaster/Outburst in our plan.

Went 3-1 at FNM with the list I posted above. Had no right winning some of the games, but I find this deck to be very forgiving of play mistakes. Brimaz didn't really have an impact, but to be fair, neither did Ashcloud. Only loss was to Temur Ascendancy. Beat WU Heroic, Mardu Warriors, and Jeskai Tempo. Sorry for such an incomplete report. I'll see if I can jot down some notes later.

I'm going to drop Brimaz and replace with Ashcloud. I also think I want another Valorous Stance. It helped me out several times. I want to try End Hostilities in the SB after the Temur matchup I had where my opponent had multiple [card]Nylea's Disciple[/card]s, multiple Coursers, multiple Sabertooths, and pulled off the Genesis Hydra combo.

Recently I've been having a lot of difficulty beating the mirror with this deck, it is the deck that I hate seeing on the other side of the table more than the deck's apparent worst matchup (U/B control, which I have an even to slightly favorable record against).

[DECK]
Lands (24)
4 Battlefield Forge
1 Evolving Wilds
10 Mountain
5 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph

Creatures (17)
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Seeker of the Way
1 Soulfire Grand Master
4 Stormbreath Dragon

Spells (19)
4 Chained to the Rocks
4 Hordeling Outburst
3 Lightning Strike
2 Outpost Siege
4 Stoke the Flames
2 Wild Slash

Sideboard (15)
2 Arc Lightning
1 Erase
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Hushwing Gryff
1 Magma Spray
2 Monastery Mentor
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
1 Scouring Sands
1 Soulfire Grand Master
1 Valorous Stance
[/DECK]

As you can see I've even resorted to going to a 3/2 split of strike/slash respectively to hedge against the mirror. The Monastery Mentors in the sideboard are a recent addition that I normally board in against in the mirror and control. The inspiration came from watching CVM streams where he played them and they seemed very impactful and able to win games by themselves.
My current sideboard for the mirror is:

In:
2 Arc Lightning, 1 Magma Spray, 2 Monastery Mentor, 2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker, 1 Scouring Sands, 1 Soulfire Grand Master

Out:
4 Hordeling Outburst (I believe people have too much hate for them post board, but this might be incorrect), 1 Goblin Rabblemaster, 1 Lightning Strike, 3 Chained to the Rocks

I'm just wondering if someone can give me some advice for my sideboarding and also any sort of mindset I should have in the mirror. Some general rules of thumb I have are never run a seeker or rabblemaster into two open mana on your opponent's turn two, Jam turn 4 outpost siege ASAP unless they have a rabblemaster out, early on damage is less important than boardstate (by this I mean make the play that creates a more favorable board for you over the one that deals an extra 3 or 4 damage early). Are these correct philosophies?

Another week traveling for work meant I couldnt follow the thread during the week but catching up on friday night certainly helped.

I had my best day of magic EVER.

First, I got to buy an amazing Boros symbol shot glass.

Second, I won a PPTQ. Not only did I win it, I didnt lose one single game of magic the entire day. 14 wins, 0 losses.

It was only about 55 people but at least 20 were good players I recognized(have top8'd real PTQs).

I ran well, only mulling to 6 a few times, never to 5. The few 2 land hands I kept worked out fairly well.

Here's the list I ran, expecting a heavy Red meta and also Green Devotion with some Junk mid/control. Turns out there was no Green devotion but plenty of red and junk.

[deck]
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Seeker of the Way
1 Ashcloud Pheonix
4 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos

1 Chandra, Pyromaster

4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Outpost Siege
3 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
2 Wild Slash
4 Hordeling Outburst
1 Valorous Stance

10 Mountain
5 Plains
4 Battlefield Forge
1 Evolving Wilds
4 Temple of Triumph

Sideboard
2 Hushwing Gryff
1 Erase
1 Valorous Stance
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
3 Arc Lightning
2 Glare of Heresy
1 Elspeth Suns champ
2 End Hostilities
1 Peak Eruption
[/deck]

I played a slew of red decks and one junk aggro.

Round 1 - RB aggro
Round 2 - RG aggro
Round 3 - Mardu Mid
Round 4 - Temur aggro
Draw
Draw

Top8 vs Junk Aggro
This was pretty crazy as he had triple Rhino and got me to 1 life with him with 2 Rhinos and a Vampire token but I got 2 Outposts online and drew my way out of it.

Top4- RW aggro but a little different with no Seeker and full set of both Pheonixes

Finals - Mono Red Aggro- pretty easy as I got brimaz both times.

Thoughts on the deck:

Wild slash is amazing in the main, obviously thats based on matchups but it was huge to play it turn 5 even with a 4 drop. There was nothing that made Lightning Strikes 1 damage matter.

Outpost Seige is legit but Chandra is good too, the 2-1 split I like. Seige won me a lot of games I had no business winning but there was a few times only Chandra would do it and she pairs great with Brimaz and Rabble.

Peak Eruption is great, it should be played more.

Ashcloud is def worth a spot but just one seems fine to diversify 4 drops and block well vs Dragons, while helpign control.
Burn baby burn!

The only change I would consider is maybe swapping the 5th Plains for a different land.
The rest felt perfect but you can mess around with the sideboard depending on what you expect- clearly I expected lots of Green devo with the End Hostilities and Elspeth. I also thought Elspeth would be good in mirror but I never casted her.

Sideboading plans

Keep in mind I won every single game so I was always on the draw when I was sideboarded. For this reason I almost always took out Rabble.

Vs RB, and Mono Red aggro, RG
- 4 Rabblemaster, 1 Valorous Stance, 1 Outpost Seige
+ 3 Arc Lightning, 2 Sarkhan and 1 End Hostilities

Vs RW Pheonix
-4 Rabble, , 1 Outpost Seige, -1 Chandra, -1 Valourous Stance
+3 Arc Lightning, + 1 Glare, +2 Sarkhan, + 1 Peak Eruption

Vs Junk aggro
-4 Rabble, -Chandra, -2 Seeker,
+ 2 Glare of Heresey, +2 Sarkhan, + 2 End Hostilities, +1 Valorous Stance

Something like that, mix it around for exact matchup
