Assuming you want the cards bad enough to bitterly recount not getting them to us on a magic forum, here is a patented sales tactic:
Literally price out the entire collection into a tcgplayer cart and, shipping included, show him exactly how much you can in one place buy what he is selling for, and then use that tangible evidence as leverage in negotiating with him. Account also for card condition, both his own and listed conditions of cards. Be wary that many LP cards are virtually NM if not actually so.

If he still wants to argue with you, it may surprise you but the ability to buy that collection's contents is now afforded to you in your tcgplayer cart, assuming the final value you're bargaining for is relative to that of the actual tcgplayer price.

Be mindful that if he were to sell the same collection on tcgplayer that he would take an 11% fee on his final sales price for all singles and also use that information as leverage.
