@Purp ---thanks!

I usually never ever lose to aggro and control the shit out of them then slowly win with like 5 life...

Mostly came down to 3 things that fucked me up...

1) Voice
2) Wurm
3) God's Willing mana always up- made it hard to control his stuff effectively.

Guess I just need more practice vs G/W which is tough to come by but everything you guys said helped.

Damn, I love this forum =D

X-1 should top8 no matter what....
X-1 with a round 1 loss can get 9th. It's happened to me twice at IQs at this LGS (both those round 1 losses were to hexproof...well 1 was a loss, the other was a draw)
Wow that seems crazy.....

Usually at smaller events like that people will Double Draw into top8 after going first 3-4 rounds undefeated. You would be ahead of anyone that double drew. But possible people don't double draw and you get screwed.

I feel your pain...I went to the Star City Open 2 weeks ago and in the first 4 rounds, I played Hexproof twice.

Got a Scg
Open again this weekend- hoping to do better.

I just don't see wasting a spell to turn a 2/2 into a 3/3 or 4/4. Casting on their turn isn't important since you want them blowing their pumps and protections on your turn.

Everything else has far greater priority than him. I'm not even eager to hit it with an early chains if I know they have bigger creatures and auras waiting. Then again, I run creatures that can wall it so maybe that skews my opinion.

So what do you guys think - the new Convoke Burn spell is worth playing? If yes what are we looking to cut? (I cant see myself cutting anything from the md).

I don't think we have enough creatures to make convoke effective and I would rather use mortars vs dragons or blood barons.

I run it over my one MM MD and I'll have another one in the SB (I love that spell btw).

I agreed and I do the same thing ;-)

Though if I have Reprisal or Fated in hand I'll be willing to chain the voice.

I think that, with YP and the tokens, we have enough creatures to make this worthwhile. I will likely shave a few Helixes to test once we have the rest of the set spoiled.

Let me know how it works out. I guess I could see it vs monsters although I'd miss the lifegain against aggro. Do you think it's playable vs control? I board out all my helix now in that matchup, FYI.

As I mentioned before I'm cutting 1 Helix and 1 MM for 2 Stoke the Flames. It's an aggressive starting point to test it and it is way more likely to go down than up from there.

I dont think MDU was talking about not playing Helix, just as an option to suplement playing with Helix in place of stuff like mortars (ued for dragon and blood baron and another efficient removal, however close to completely blank vs control anyway).

Am I right MDU?

@Rhyno

Probably it is worse than helix, however for playtesting purposes I can see it would be good way to test it out.

Correct ;-) I'll most likely only run 1 or 2 at most (MM is still a solid spell for its cost).

The tradeoff is hitting BBoV and Stormbreath (and potentially shaving the cost) in exchange for not gaining 4 life. Sounds good to me.

Hey, be glad she's around after rotation. She's probably second in power to Koth for pure red planeswalkers.

Given her short history in eternal formats, it could be Koth that's playing second fiddle to Chandra.

Also from M15,Battlefield forge is obviously a big improvement over Mana Confluence and probably a Boros GG or Temple of Silence. The CitP lands can be really annoying sometimes.

I think it's pretty much a straight upgrade from Guildgate and Mana Confluence. I'll be subbing those out for forges immediately.

My thoughts on Stoke the Flames: if you're running dat Shouta list, Stoke is a straight swap for the single Mortars.

Also, Battlefield Forge does tap for a colorless pain-free...I'll take it over a Guildgate all day, erryday.

Yup- Stoke def over MM. Don't see how you could really argue against that.

Yeah the lands will be interesting...

I have like 4 open land spots that are currently:
1 Mana Confluence
1 Temple of Silence
2 Boros Guildgate

I think I would want like 2 Battlefield Forge- possibly 3 but hands with 2 seem pretty bad.

Right now I'm boarding

2 Banishing Light
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
1 Mizzium Mortars
3 Prophetic Flamespeaker
2 Reprisal
1 Wear // Tear

Wear // Tear is less good now that Planar Cleansing control is a thing.

Reprisal hits GW pretty hard if that's a thing in your area.

You should have ZERO lava spikes in post board against aggro unless you're in the market for paying two mana to discard a card :P

I'd say that we might be able to get away with 2 Battlefield Forge; three and three Mutavault is probably too many "colourless" lands unless your meta is very control heavy.

I wouldn't fault anyone for 1 reprisal and 2 mortars in the board, that's pretty reasonable.

Z, with your setup, how do feel about your control matchup? Reckoner providing a good enough threat. Seems like I would want Flamespeaker on the play(to stay ahead of jace), Reckoner on the draw

Esper and UW Planar Cleansing are very good, standard UW is unfavourable.

Totally with you on this one. I will genreally only kill the Voice if i have too much removal in hand (when does that ever happen anyway) or he is totally out of gas. A 2/2 that i can chump forever with YP tokens just isn't much of a threat.

(When i realized this some time last season my GW MU went from being very hard to being relatively
easy, against us voice only gets better when you kill it)
