I virtually ran shota's list with more mortars at GP chicago. I ended up 3-3 drop I had two round bye so I ended up 5-3. Things I learned, flamespeaker is the truth. This guys wins games on the spot. I also learned that the field was VERY prepared for us. I played a ChannelFB guy on Bg devotion with fucking primeval bounty in the board. I also got the privilege of playing RWB midrange including: obzedat, baron, and brimaz, sin collector. Shota's list is great against any creature based strategy. If I were play in this tournament again knowing what I know, I think Eidolon would have been a better call.
Standard: Red whatever variant is most meta appropriate
Modern: RB burn, infect, Twin, Bots
Legacy: UR delver, belcher

Reckoner is also fine vs Burn (especially revel variants), mono black aggro and mono red aggro.Im wondering if you could just straight up swap Mortars for Reckoners in Shotas list.
From all ive read about the creatures in his SB, it seems like you only WANT reckoner vs monsters, and only WANT falmespeaker vs mono u
Flamespeaker is also good vs all the above and control.
Reckoner is pretty loose if you're not expecting a lot of GR though.

Just bear in mind that Reckoner is proactive, Mortars is reactive and can't deal 20 to your opponent; so dilly ting threat density is a real problem.Monsters seems like only matchup Id want Reckoners for. In every other matchup that you can bring in reckoner, I feel like Id rather have mortars.

Yes, I was even promoting Boros Reckoner when most people were hating on him at one stage (though I havn't tested Prophetic Flamespeaker)MDU, honest question. Have you tested any of the 3 CMC creatures?
That said imo I'll still rather have an MM over Prophetic Flamespeaker vs Ux because I rather not risk exiling my own CTTR or BL effect nor do I want a blocker vs a list with unblockable creatures and flyers.

@Elricity: Not lately, I have tried Boros Reckoner in Burn (not just PyroWhite, with FoM).
I don't like Shota's SB for the online meta-game personally but if its working for you guys keep up with it
EDIT: This thread has been a treat, thanks Rhyno

Can you post your username on the DtR Clan thread so Mr Leader can send you an invite (I find it really odd how you can only have 1 person sending invites). So thanks to Rcwraspy, I have the cards for MDU's Burn online!!
Grinding for SCG Worcester now.
Deck is so resilient. First match I do is vs Mono Black and game 3 he opens with 2x Duress and 2x Thoughtseize taking every card I had. Yet I pulled it out!!

I'm curious about the same thing if your running my list you can help me find that sliver bullet vs Jund/Junk/BW/Bg that I'm really looking for (you'll see why we need after you watch my next SE Report where I face two Junk list (Sheep, BBV, GhostDads, Oozes, Devour Flesh, FSP, Angels all horrible possibilities packed into one list.....) and split the finals) we can win but its not fun.....Are you thinking about tweaks for the meta at all?

As far as tweaks, mostly just making sure I am running 4 Chained and 1 Mortors.
Seems to always be a lot of Black, Blue and Monsters -at least at SCG Prov. Some control too but usually not much aggro. Not much Junk or Naya either.
I think we are in a good spot because B/g is turning back towards Mono Black so Chained is as good as it used to be with less Abrupt Decay.
Lately in paper, I have been testing the Shouta sideboard but dont have $$ for Flamesspeaker or Reckoner(though he's cheap I'd want both creatures or none).
So online I am testing with MDU sideboard.

Neither does Reckoner. Reckoner wasn't great before because he wasn't an effective stumbling block to the large ground creatures from monsters decks on his own. Reckoner doesn't matter all that much when you're opponent just has 3 other beaters waiting in the wings. With Banishing Light and Reprisal you have enough removal to make Reckoner a significant board presence, and you still have double burn and some number of mortars as answers to Stormbreath Dragon.
EDIT: Ghor-Clan also made Reckoner embarrassing but Reprisal makes Ghor-Clan embarrassing.

After playing 3 8-mans (2-0 split, 2-1, 3-0) and the Daily (2-2) last night I have changed my list a bit (SB really).
[deck]
4 Chandra's Pheonix
4 YP$
4 Shock
4 Skullcrack
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 WLH
1 Mizzium Mortars
3 Chains
1 Banishing Light
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault
1 Mana Confluence
2 Boros Guildgate
1 Temple of Silence
8 Mountain
SB
[set]
2 Chandra
1 Chain
[fluctuations on expected meta]
3 Toil//Trouble
1 Wear/Tear (I feel like I am needing this card less and less)
3 Mizzium Mortars
1 Reprisal
[test]
3 Flamespeaker
1 Banishing Light
[/deck]
I ended up winning 2 and losing 1 to mono u. I have found the hardest draws to beat contain multiple tidebinders. I really enjoyed the 1 banishing light MD over the 4th chain, it is basically the same as a 4th answers to master in game 1, but it also allows me to exile a thassa, which can
be huge.
I am expecting Mono U to be huge at my two upcoming IQs, so I am looking for some ways to make this matchup better. I have noticed though, without the inclusion of searing blood, I find it much harder to try and race them. Previously, I was able to look at both the boardstate and my hand to determine if the race was possible. Any ideas on this?
(this is why I am about to begin testing flamespeaker, but I AM worried about exiling crucial cards like MDU said)
I am off of the 1 drop plan for now if I continue to see a shift towards 4x Pharikas Cure. I am hoping possibly Flamespeaker (doesn't die to Cure or Drown) can help remedy this (if black players will continue to cut down on devour, and bile blight this might help Flamespeaker stick around longer).
Control players are really implementing leaving up dispel mana, so I am hoping the Toils work out( I might cut it up to 4 simply because if you hit t3 toil into t4 toil, it's almost impossible to lose that match). Question for people
playing Flame speaker: It's postboard G2 (Against CONTROL), your opponent is tapped out on your turn 3, are you playing phoenix or flamespeaker first?

[cards]3 Boros Reckoner
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Prophetic Flamespeaker
2 Keening Apparition
1 Reprisal
1 Banishing Light
1 Chained to the Rocks
1 Wear // Tear[/cards]
This is my current SB online and paper. The WT, FS, and KA are all flex in one direction or another. If I feared Ghostdad more I would probably include another Reprisal or a Fated. But for an open metagame like an SCG IQ or online play I feel this is pretty well rounded. (MB has 4 shock, 3 CTTR, 1 BL, 1 MM)

Almost always the phoenix. It's postboard G2 (Against CONTROL), your opponent is tapped out on your turn 3, are you playing phoenix or flamespeaker first?
Your gameplan game 2 is to counterspell Jace asap, gas your opponent out, and then resolve Flamespeaker, preferably with mana open, since he does a more powerful Chandra impersonation. You'd have to read your opponent on zero answers to flamespeaker to want to land him first.
Now here's the hard part. The answer if he all his mana open on his turn 3 is to do nothing which is counter to how people have been playing of slamming phoenix into removal. You want him to Jace turn 4, burn it end of turn, then finish it with phoenix if at all possible. You're not racing with this sideboard.
nThis assumes your hand isn't heavy on banishing light/disenchant.
I'm still getting a grasp on the planar cleansing build.

You should have better things to be doing than dropping an early flamespeaker but it does depend on your hand I suppose. It performs better when hands start thinning on both sides which is something I feel burn has lacked gainst control. It is definitely a play style shift. So you guys bringing in Flamespeaker vs Control - do you wait till after turn 4 to drop him so you can kill Jace?

I find it funny that everyone is literally picking apart that Shouta list when the man played it in one tournament over 3 weeks ago and probably had a very good read on the metagame. I'm sure that if he were to play Boros Burn again, it'd look completely different and we would all spend the next 3 weeks wondering why he chose a different set of 4 cards in his 15 card sideboard.
In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

We took a successful list, and are breaking it down 3 weeks later to adapt to the metagame we face today. Is that not the point of the forums?
I am simply looking for ways to have more cards that shift Mono U towards my favor (it has decreased with the cut of Searing Blood[might warrant coming back in]) as well as the control matchup which has dramatically shifted over the 3 weeks. (No Dspheres, who would of thought that would ever happen.)
Not sure what we are doing wrong here, Val.
edit: random thought: I wonder what would be better vs Mono U, Eidolon or Flamespeaker?

Flamespeaker, by far, embarasses mono blue while Eidolon can be a liability. It leaves mono blue either letting you draw cards, which removes their dudes, or blocking, which with burn, removes their dudes anyway. Their best hope is to hit it with domestication.
The only deck Eidolon is decisively better against is the mirror. I'm aware people are inclined to believe the latter is far better against control but I still think it's more even or even favoring flamespeaker slightly.
About the non d-sphere control version, anyone know what their general game 2 board is against burn? I assume they don't want to drop all their cleansings since I doubt Chandra coming in is a secret anymore. I assume verdicts still come out for a more creature plan. It seems like my last couple opponents had zero enchantments which leaves me a couple flex spots that I had assumed were a lock.
