I haven't yet to test the mirror but if it plays like sphinx rev for 2-3, I can see why he's not worrying about countering helix. Helix is brutal in the pure burn mirror because it's an 8 life swing. If you're playing aggressor and don't care about your life total, then it's only gain 4 life which like the before mentioned rev for 3, is only mildly annoying rather than back breaking.

So, the counter to the counter in a week is something like an anger/flames/searing blood low creature package and 2 for 1 with all the cards? Which also hits the nightveil and/or fiendslayer nonsense from esper with a chance to hit hexproof.

Am I off track? The obvious answer is for people to play creatures that brick our creatures and are less easy to remove and then run a lot of creature removal which brings us back full circle to a high spell package while their cards are blank. This is almost certainly going too far but if they
slide too much into it, the Aurelia's Fury suddenly becomes...not awful with 24 lands? Maybe?

I am sure Zem knows better and has played this deck a million more rounds than I have, but I still like FDS better than cackler. I obv just don't bring it in for the mirror. Maybe that puts me at a disadvantage in the mirror, but I like FDS better in most other matchups so that is what I have been sticking with. I also keep playing SFD in the sb and love that card, so maybe I am just way behind or sub-optimally sideboarding. I love that guy in any creature type matchup tho. Too good imo.

One other thing that I wanted to suggest. Boros Burn, while a descriptive name for this deck (kinda), just isn't that sweet. I have named this deck "Burn Notice" and I am sticking with it. Maybe that's not great either, but I like it. To each their own

I agree, Lazer. The mirror is 21+ removal spells plus 4 infinite blockers in Chandra's Phoenix. That's a lot of spells to "overload." I think the key to winning the mirror is to optimize VCA by 2-for-1 creatures (dragon, Reckoner, YP) and gaining life while still dealing damage (Trooper, BO).

How does YP match up against the Monsters decks? I know that Firedancer is pretty abysmal seeing they have plenty of ways to get rid of it, but does YP do more work in the matchup? YP tokens block to let you kill them in the usual manner. You just have a few more turns to do it, which is all we need.

SFD isn't abysmal there either. He's just not as good (read: bad) against Esper, which is the premier Tier 1 deck.

If unanswered immediately, you build up a token flood so that wasting all your removal on their creatures equals "take 3-4 each turn". Unless they overload mortars of course. If monsters boards in bow of nylea, it's about the only out you actually have.

I love dancer at FNM a lot because it's always got an aggro meta. It just
doesn't do enough against the tier 1 decks. You can win with it but it's less consistant. If the control decks try to slam in more creatures, it can be a valid plan. What do you think, Kait?

20 minutes work for 4 packs and 2QPs. Yeah, still the best.

Got my first 2 QPs this morning. I tried running 2 queues at once. I have to say, I didn't enjoy it one bit. (did 2-0, 1-0, but felt stressed out of my mind). Went another solo for 2-0. Still trying to fit in a DE.

Just finished 1st in an 8-man giving the new iteration a try. Yeah. Won all three games, but holy crap that was stressful.

1st match was RG. After getting him in game 1, I left Ash zealots in by accident. So on the draw and I see 2 Ashs and think, oh well. I play 3 Ashs by turn 4 and the game is
over quickly.

2nd match is where is got stressful vs MonoBC
He maindecked bile blight and duress and ripped my hand apart with 2x thoughtseize and 2x duress. His DD and topdecks were better and a grey merchant got me, since he ripped the skullcracks.
2nd game was close as hell due to him pulling 6 discards total and the last thoughtseize putting him into killrange one turn before his 2nd DD was going to swing for the kill. I need one damage spell and got lucky, drawing it.
3rd game: He uses duress on t1, getting WLH, Ii YP on t2, bile blight kills YP. By sacrificing two CP, I manage to survive his T4 DD and top deck assemble which saves my butt against DD and mutavault until I can kill his NVS. Game ended with me at 2 life.

I must say that MonoBC feels very unstable.. YP is great, if you manage to bait out all removals and Assemble saves/turns/wins the game. He hit turn 4 DD three times in a row and If I hadnt gotten lucky myself, he should by all rights have won.

brew with that 2/2 inspired, untap, draw card, commit suicide - effect. That thing is unplayable in limited, it seems very unplayable against us.
Nevertheless, duress, thoughtseize and removal to compliment his creatures made this a very hard won 2-1.

Compared to the state of the meta and our deck two weeks ago, this seems strong, but stressful to play

Alright, will pick some up then as sounds like they do a lot of work. Also Aodh, I don't play the Firedancers mainboard, I keep them in the side and board 4 in after sideboard. I feel I can usually race the aggro decks game 1 (they are all white weenie for some reason) and there's enough other decks (mostly Esper as you mentioned) to not warrant mainboarding them.

Pretty much this. You always want to get a 2 for 1 with Young Pyromancer. If you can cast it turn 3 with shock back up do it, but otherwise turn 4 with a burn spell is the correct play.

Remember, if we arent slinging burn, our creatures need to do something THE TURN THEY COME OUT. Our 1 drop is swinging on turn 2 most of the time. Ash Zealot, Chandra's Phoenix are burn spells with bodies. Dont let YP get killed for a 1 for 1. Get that extra dude back. Get that 2 for 1

There are occassions where I'm ok running turn 2 YP into removal but that requires it being backed up by other threats or in general some reason to keep making them tap out on their turn that benefits me. Against the burn mirror for example, I have no problem turning it into duress.

But yes, you always want to get value out of YP. Just, sometimes, you get value out of it in ways that don't involve it making a token. Wish I had a good example.

Yeah you know those days when you just cant seem to win anything, I'm having one of those I think its just my inexperience with playing YP correctly all my matches today Ive felt like Ive made about a many misplays as humanly possible. Oh well that's why we continue to play so we can improve. Glad to have a group like this to keep me motivated

actually had a feeling bile blight was coming and since i had two copies of CP, I figured I broaden the threats. But yeah. I had no burn. Just got lucky that it turned out well for me so I had one more phoenix to sac. since I went creature heavy on him, I saw YP only as a 2/1 body as drawing a spell for YP seemed more unlikely than me benifiting off having an additional chandra in the air.

All in all I think with duress/Thoughtseize and me wanting to desperately curve out with two CPs, one YP and a burn spell, it was the right
choice. Value is great and I'm a greedy bugger. But sometimes YP just is a 2/1 body to me.

I didn't notice the clan was on a new SB plan for the burn mirror so I boarded incorrectly (I thought it was just a random Z quirk) thus if this is how things will work I'll put the Mortars and Chain vs the mirror on the draw and keep it how it is on the play.

I have found my way here from James's Channel Fireball videos and after running 3-1 (Local FNM) and 4-0 (16 Man Local 'Player of the Year' Qualifier) with the deck last weekend I am keen to continue running it into the grinder.
I have just finished watching the #4 video set and am keen to try out the Pyromancers. My local meta is Black Heavy so I am curious what the sideboarding plans are versus Mono Black.
If I bring in 4 Pyromancer and 2 Chained from the sideboard what am I cutting? Previously it would have been 3 Shock and 3 Magma Jet, but now that seems to devalue Pyromancer.
I guess the 4 Ash Zealots and 2 Shocks? Also do I bring in the 4th Mutavault in place of another shock?

I don't particularly enjoy being hit by Obzedat Ghost Council so BO is good vs BW that said I want my 4th Searing Blood but I can't decided if the 3rd Chains is better or not (meta is too messed up).
