I was messing around with some YP$ in the board with some testing vs American Control running Brimaz. One thing that I did find myself doing was Striking Brimaz during attackers and assigning the final point with the token in blockers. An online YP$ effectively lets us add another 4 damage removal spell to our arsenal without, albeit its a roundabout way to do so. I feel YP$ also lets us get some value from allowing us to save our strikes & helixes for domes and letting us use our bloods(YP$ also ups our connect % with blood), jets and shocks to take care of X/3 bodies.

The efficiency it can generate can be invaluable when coming to the end of the game and having the Strikes and Helix still available.

So I wanted to share what happened in my loss yesterday in my Super IQ to Boros Burn with you guys.

He's at 8, I'm at 7, game 3. His presence is comprised of a Mutavault and a little Extort enchantment, with 2 cards in hand after I Rakdos Returned him earlier. I have a Reckoner, and 2 cards in hand. I swing with Reckoner, no blocks. I cast Fated Conflagration on my own Reckoner for lethal. He Helixes me with the extort...

Broke my heart. Makes me want to trade my Rb Devotion stuff for Boros Burn cards, lol.

Here's Michael Jacob's take on Boros Burn. He's made some... interesting choices. I'm not sure I agree with Boros Reckoner and Stormbreath Dragon gets stranded in his hand almost constantly.

Thats not "his take" thats almost a carbon copy of the winner.

Give it a few days. Zeman if you lurk long enough his list might end up similar to ours

Boros Reckoner, Chandra, Pyromaster, and Stormbreath Dragon are all out of place.

You can +1 Chandra to get Reckoner through for damage, people love blocking that guy.

I've died multiple times in the mirror with Chained to the Rocks in hand and my opponent not drawing Phoenix, just burning me out.
Variance?

I think you lose faster if you don't have the Chained to the Rocks when they do find a Chandra's Phoenix. The only alternative is Annihilating Fire, but that card seems bad.

@Aodh Annihilating Fire might be getting side board spots if this deck takes off. For the phoenix of course.

The deck is taking off already.

Have you seen MTGO? full of the lists. The recent GP? SCG:Open? The world is being taken by storm.

A lightning storm. And its Z's fault

Anger of the Gods seems better in general since it has applications outside of the burn MU. I'm not saying we should run AotG, but rather that the Rx Devotion people might start to. I've cast my fair share of Annihilating Fire (last season with Rx(x)), and it's very underwhelming. I do like that it goes to the dome, but CttR isn't in the deletion only for phoenixes. It's also used against monsters where AF would be weak. So I think we're stuck with CttR, but Terminate's nothing to scoff at.

So with regards to the recent technology of Mutavault in the 'board, do we want to run it main and go up to 24 land? 24 land doesn't seem bad here (especially an extra Vault), because the deck is so keen to get to 4 mana, at least in my experience.

Maybe I've go the wrong idea, but it seems like you want the Vault in matchups where you aren't leveraging burn against creatures. Surely we are favoured against small creature decks anyway, so can take the G1 hit of having to side out the Vault?

I'm not sure how this would fit in the list, but in the 2 Chained to the Rocks slots I've been thinking about 1 Blind Obedience and the Vault. This puts my board to;

1 Blind Obedience
4 Chained to the Rocks
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Viashino Firstblade
4 [Creature du jour]

A few pages back, I suggested AotG as a possibility, with a shock or LS piggy backed to take out a fatty and clear the board of small guys. I have been keeping a close eye on events, I don't do MTGO yet. It will be interesting how this all pans out.

I definitely think that, if this deck rises, other aggro decks to combat this will rise and we should run 2 Anger of the Gods sideboard

If this deck becomes a main archetype, our side board will have to drastically change. We'll need to deal with our problem match ups, including the mirror and the decks that will be made to beat ours. Wear/Tear will be a staple sb card. I think this deck is stronger as a fringe deck, but time will tell.

So many copies of each of these should we run in the main;

- Chained to the Rocks
- Searing Blood
- Shock
- Skullcrack

What are everyone's thoughts after playing for a while?

Why do you all hate SBD so much? Sure its not the best MD choice right now but in the SB when your in full control mode you would need to hit lands anyways so you can counter life-gain, cast 2-3 spells, trigger BO and many other stuff -it doesn't work against your game-plan at all.

Heck SBD Burn with Chandra was the list with took down the last (completed) MOCS tournaments - which IMO is the highest level of magic (Kibler, Owen, Tod, LSV and many other name players across the WORLD all gathered together)

I understand the importance of early pressure, I would feel better using VFB over any of them for early pressure and a chump blocker. I would actually feel better adding a 24th land and siding in 2 Stormbreath Dragons. SBD has immediate impact, he has the potential for monstrosity, it is immune to D-Spheres, it blocks/kills/lives against Blood Baron. That card does so many things and is great against so many match .

I only made that comment because I feel like this forum has too many followers so we get so many comments which automatically dismiss list which have strong finishes simply because it differ from the current school of thought.

Against Seph (the guy you lost too yesterday) he was running 4x Dispel which just give him some free wins vs burn same with the random 9+ discards BW decks - random strong suggestion like SBD can help in those MUs.

that said though I agree with blasting random suggestions like Last Breath.

EDIT: I'm not 1900 anymore, I put my rating inside a blender

I wouldn't mind having access to six evasive, difficult to remove creatures in a lot of post board games (when I am playing control)

Does running 2x Anger SB get us to 40% vs Hexproof? Or 28%?

OK, nvm with that YP$ over Ash in the main crap I was spouting. I didn't make the swap yet and I just played against B/W aggro and leaving Ash back as a blocker is HUGE game against them. Had double Ash to keep Mutavault at bay all day long even through a Spear of Heliod.

Yeah i've gone away from YP$ too, SBD seems better, given it plays more naturally into the strategy post board and works in the same matchups.

I'd just like to say MDU suggested this a while ago, like a week or so and I agreed with him. Especially with you boarding land now, dragon is very strong in a lot of matchups.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Had a little time to test today. Took MDU's list but switched the 3 Ashley's for YP$. I felt that YP$ main actually weakened the deck against G/R Monsters because you lose the threat of burn and first strike and the occasional use of it. I felt like the speed vs MBD fell off and turned the match grindy, but without the ability to both control the board and have creatures to finish. The speed that Ashley can impart with haste makes her pseudo burn with the benefit of continued damage if she sticks around. Only tested vs G/R Monsters and MBD...

I will switch back to Ashley. I will say the BlOb in the main as a one of is interesting... it usually held its own when it came up....
