I bring in Viashinos and BO for 3x shock, 2x searing blood at the moment; they've many fewer blood targets than traditional MBC. Thoughts?

Blind obedience has been AWESOME vs b/w control. It keeps obzedat from attacking, and makes it so whip can't bring back a creature. I like searing blood still vs b/w because it lets you 2/1 obzedat and still get some value.

Terrible night of testing tonight. Mono U with or without White splash was EVERYWHERE. I really missed the spark troopers.

I haven't played it with burn, but I did with big boros and post side it was almost a burn deck. Didn't seem bad at all.

Here the Uw players are only splashing Dspere and Ephara. Neither are really a big deal.Is it different where you are?

Mono U splash White is much harder.
Blue Devo w/ White Splash backs up Tidebinders and Master of Waves with D-Spheres and Ephara. Sideboard is also has Revoke Existence and the usual counter suite also. Makes chain to rocks a hell of a lot weaker.

Tidebinder isn't much of an issue but D-sphere is. Makes chains dead and be damn if you have multiple out.

I am speaking from testing on modo tonight, I think variance hit me really hard, though. I faced 3 BW decks (won 1 loss 2) 1 GR (loss) 1 esper (loss) 2 mono u (won 1 loss 1) Mono Uw (loss) jund control (win)

Stupid unsettled meta.

So, what do we think of the firedrinkers in the board? A mate suggested cutting them, which would slow a third Guildgate in the main and even better mana. We'd have room for Burning Earth and Spark Trooper again too.

Shock v Warleader's Helix, which do we want 4 of? Discuss.

Warleaders Helix > Shock.

Satyr seems like a weak link to me. In favour of booting it.

Satyr Dancer makes the Uwx (devotion / midrange) better, if you don't care about those MUs cut the Satyr.

Haven't actually played the deck myself but going to on Thursday. Giving my uneducated opinion just from observing Purp play and overall reading:

Khaos brought up a good point that Firedrinker in the late game could hurt control because of all the open mana but after playing Big Boros my personal feelings were to never want him later on. Instead I would want a hasted threat then. Now I would prefer another burn spell or a haste threat. I
am mindful that Firedrink satyr can potentially do more damage per turn compared to a burn spell. I'll figure out in my own testing.

I am personally in favor of Warleader's Helix as a 4 of instead of Shock as a 4 of. Shock is great on the draw against G/R killing off a dork as well as the ability to buy back phoenix or phoenixes for a mana. Yet it doesn't necessarily get us there.

Helix can win us the game, put us ahead on life or recoup some so we can stay in the game. Helix WITH firedancer lets us kill Blood Barons and Stormbreaths at instant speed.

This is soooooooo true :) Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks this :)

Alright, so I've been trying this deck extensively with mixed results. I'm not the best magic player, but I have had some success with [card]Chandra's Outrage[/card]. Its basically a less efficient searing blood. I like how with it and satyr, you can actually 1 for 1 a demon, and without satyr it still drops Stormbreath/Brimaz/Kruphix/Blood Baron etc. The four mana is expensive, though--but I feel like it has enough upside for a SB card against monsters/mono black.

Thoughts?

I really like this deck, and I'm trying to do what I can to make it relevant--but Jund/Gruul Monsters has so much synergy its disgusting, and it is very difficult to compete with that--and if they land a xenegod, there is absolutely no keeping up with them if they're not already at death's door.

Banner looks sweet, lightning strike looks awesome blown up.

I think I'll agree with Warleader's as a 4, especially with the change of 1 more land main board. I prefer the possibility of flooding over being stuck on two land, and the Helix is a great spell no matter when you draw it. That's a big part of defining at a 4-of for me, along with whether I would mind seeing multiples, to which the answer is no. For shock, the best use is for T1 Elvish Mystic or T1 Judge's Familiar. If you're still running several main board, 2-3 still allows a decent chance to draw into it in our opening hand but it's not as consistently impacting in the game compared to Helix.

Busy night on here :)
This?[deck]Creatures (8)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Enchantments (4)
2 Chained to the Rocks
2 Blind Obedience

Instants(25)
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
3 Shock
4 Skullcrack
3 Warleader's Helix

Land (23)
2 Boros Guildgate
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
9 Mountain

Sideboard (15)
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Satyr Firedancer
3 Viashino Firstblade
2 Burning Earth[/deck]
I like this list :) Burning Earth could be Sparky too which I also like BO helps against both GR & Jund Monsters and BW (which is seeing a lot more; play 2nd most pop deck on MTGO now, presumably due to it being better Vs Control than MonoB). I consider these difficult match ups so BO main makes sense to me.
I bring in Viashinos and BO for 3x shock, 2x searing blood at the moment; they've many fewer blood targets than traditional MBC. Thoughts?
Theoretically speaking I like Searing Blood here for the same reasons as Jonnymagic. I'd prefer to keep at least 3 in and take out a Jet (and I'm open to leaving all 4 in and taking out 2 Jets) as this allows for some great blowouts when they tap out for BBV or Ghost Dad :)

Discuss.
The meta is most annoying; I much prefer to play in a settled meta. Yesterday I played a very mixed bag of decks in the 2 mans beating MonoB 2-0, 2-0, Br Aggro 2-1 (lost game was due to a misplay), WW 2-1 (all about Firedancer), Dega Mid/Control 2-1 (Helix), random heroic 2-0 and lost to the mirror 0-2 (he drew more burn both games), Naya Hexproof 0-2 (horrible), GDevo 0-2 (too fast for me), RDW 1-2 (speed and Peak Eruption) and GB 0-2 (Primeval Bounty)

I'd go for Helix > Shock - much better mid-long game, life swing can be game winning, especially in
aggro/mid match ups and what Drifting says about Shock targets.

I've found Firedrinker to be incredibly good, especially against MonoUDevo (not faced UWDevo) so I'm reluctant to cut him but I do like finding room for Spark Trooper. At this point I wish I was more mentally agile when I read a list as just a few changes can shift the balance of a number of match ups and the full impact of this isn't always apparent to me without playing out the match ups out.

EDIT - It was early and as such I found it impossible to tell the difference between Firedancer and Firedrinker! :)

This?

[deck]Creatures (8)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Enchantments (4)
2 Chained to the Rocks
2 Blind Obedience

Instants(25)
4 Boros Charm
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
3 Shock
4 Skullcrack
3 Warleader's Helix

Land (23)
2 Boros Guildgate
4 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
9 Mountain

Sideboard (15)
2 Chained to the Rocks
4 Firedrinker Satyr
3 Satyr Firedancer
4 Viashino Firstblade
2 Burning Earth[/deck]
I think you're on to something here with the Blind Obedience in the main.

Here were my suggested tweaks to the deck after the PTQ (I'm late as hell in posting them). Notice that the only difference in the list above and my list is just 2 cards: the Firedancer and
the Blind Obedience. I think either choice is correct.

[deck]
Creatures 10
4 Ash Zealot
2 Satyr Firedancer
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Enchantment 2
2 Chained to the Rocks

Burn 25
2 Shock
4 Searing Blood
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
4 Skullcrack
4 Boros Charm
3 Warleader's Helix

Land 23
2 Boros Guildgate
9 Mountain
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Mutavault

Sideboard 15
2 Spark Trooper
3 Viashino Firstblade
4 Firedrinker Satyr
2 Blind Obedience
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Chained to the Rocks
[/deck]

VS R/G Monsters, Jund Monsters, and R/W Devotion:
-4 Ash Zealot, -4 Skullcrack
+2 Chained to the Rocks, +2 Mizzium Mortars, +2 Blind Obedience, +2 Spark Trooper

VS Mono Black Control, B/g Control:
-2 Shock, -2 Firedancer Satyr
+2 Chained to the Rocks, +2 Spark Trooper

VS Mono Blue Devotion, U/x Devotion
-4 Skullcrack, -2 Boros Charm
+2 Chained to the Rocks, +2 Mizzium Mortars, +2 Spark Trooper

VS U/W, Esper, and BUG Control
-4 Searing Blood, -2 Firedancer
Satyr, -2 Chained to the Rocks, -1 Shock
+2 Spark Trooper, +3 Viashino Firstblade, +4 Firedrinker Satyr

The sideboard options could maybe be changed. Everyone on here is raving about Firstblade in some matches over the Spark Trooper.

I like love the Firedrinkers, but if the number of control decks out there begin to lessen, I can see a reason to cut these guys.

Shock v Helix - Neither. I've never wanted a full set of each. The 3/3 was good in the original list.

@NBW - I love the banner. I like how you made it look like the Satyr's arm was extending to the other side to call forth the lightning.

Helix vs Shock - I always found myself rolling my eyes whenever I drew shock. The only match ups I wanted it against were red aggro and maybe weenies, but even then, I wanted searing blood or magma jet that much more. I feel like this deck wants as much 4 point burn as it can get its hands on.

I don't honestly like Burning Earth very much as a sideboard card (in paper, I've yet to test it)

Anyone have any anecdotes about it performing well?

If I'd had Burning Earth against the BUG and UWR Control decks, they would've just lost on the spot, I believe. Or at least taken a considerable chunk of damage before they dealt with it.

I know I drew well here but it's plays like these that make this deck sooo rewarding :)

Opp is Naya Mid. G1 I draw well enough to ignore his attacks and burn him out. G2 I bring in the Dancer. Oh how I  this guy! :) T4 he is on 17 with a Caryatid in play, I have a Dancer and a Vault. He makes a 2/2 token then drops Domri and fights with my Dancer. I cast Searing Blood :D He loses his token and his Domri :) I nip in for 3 putting him to 14. He drops Courser, revealing another one on the top. I Boros Charm,
killing it and dropping him to 10. He drops the Courser he's drawn and Brimaz. I have a Helix and a Searing Blood in hand. I skillfully draw another Blood and wipe his board while dropping him to 4 with the Helix in hand to seal the deal on my turn :)

That was a fucking deck. 4 Hellion Crucible and maindeck Zealous Conscripts. That was my highest winning % season ever.

Won back to back 8-mans, 1-0 in the third.

Burning Earth is crazy.
Flames of the Firebrand has never come in, it just doesn't fit my configuration post board (its a very marginal shock upgrade, don't do marginal upgrades!)
Blind Obedience is crazy.

Firstblade Victims: just 1 so far.
