Sometimes I wish I could live in the 70s/80s so I could LIVE all the music of the times.

Then I remember I'm black and I'd much rather prefer the age I'm in ;p

I ended up ordering 4 C/UC sets...the uncommons have enough total value to make it worth not having to track any down locally for extra decks (plus I have to share with my son and my lady's boy).

I only have to worry about myself now. My son decided that he only likes to go to pre-releases. He gets too nervous at any competitive tournament.

In regards to matches against control:
Yes I run 4 Mindsparker in my sideboard and side out all Reckoners for Mindsparkers in this matchup.

Response to why Stormbreath is better than Awake the Ancients:
7/7 with haste for 4 is slower than a 4/4 with haste for 5 how exactly?

Comment on his Mono Red "Devotion" deck yet not knowing how to play Purphoros:
So far I have won 2 tournaments with it and have lost 0 games. Won a Foil Stormbreath and Foil Thoughtseize respectively. Believe me, it's not diluted at all. I didn't really ask for advice about the deck itself, tbh, I'm just asking which matchups the red God is BEST in so I know when to side him in.

And in case no one wants to click on the last page, why he thinks BTE is bad in a Devotion Deck. Warning, high levels of dumbfuck ahead:

[quote:
1k6e0ufa]Yeah it's bad in this deck. It was good when people used BTE into madcap skills. It's leftover from that phase and then people never took it out. You can see right on the primer's OP that it rates it as very poor for midrange and says not to use it if you are using 4 Ash Zealot. Especially don't if you are also using 4 Weirds. [/quote]

Mindsparker is the classic trap of sideboarding via small upgrades, which is the worst way to sideboard. Its still a fucking 3 power 3 drop.

Bolt of Keranos makes me wonder if an Izzet Burn deck is possible. Something like:

4 Goblin Electromancer
4 Satyr Firedancer
4 Chandra´s Phoenix
2 Spellheart Chimera

4 Shock
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
4 Bolt of Keranos
4 Turn//Burn
3 Steam Augury

23 land

That´s a load of scry and draw on rebate. The lack of Boros high power burn is exchanged for manipulation and speed (as in manareduction).

Agree on Z's assessment on the final spoiler list, but Mogis. I believe he´s a contender out of the board in Rakdos Aggro vs control and midrange.

Counter-burn is always interesting, I look forward to revisiting it next set. Right now, the mana doesn't excite me since there are so many heavy colour requirements, but you really do need the Mutavaults to squeak out kills.

Im not sure you don't actually want JAoT; it buys you a lot of time versus aggro and its a draw 4 against control, which gives you the resources necessary to burn them out. Counterflux is very good too.

There's close to a deck there, that much is clear, I'll have to put my brewing hat on and see if there can be a cohesive 60.

Well, if the "23 lands" didn't include Mutavaults I´d feel like a total [insert random dunce allegory]. Counterflux is sweet, but the manabase just doesn´t support more than a random 1.

Good point on Jace. There´s something iffy about Augury + Chimera. It looks sweet yet smells like a trap.

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion then Z, I also believe Oracle of the Bones has some merit against Bx Devotion or Control (though I can't see myself MD'ing them or even having room to SB them).

Cards I feel are decent in BotG

White:
Acolyte's Reward: it's conditional but strong effect allowing you to do 2for1 in White Weenie. Reminds me of Divine Reflection, is less flexxible but also less mana-intensive.
Brimaz, King of Oreskos: undercosted one-man army.
Eidolon of Countless Battles: synergizes extremally well with token-swarm strategy. Playable (cheap!) Bestow makes him survive wraths.
Hero of Ioras: could be broken in some kind of aura-deck.
Revoke Existence: kthxbye Thassa.
Spirit of the Labirynth: control hate-bear for Wx decks. Great card to have.

Blue:
Nullify: if someone would use Essence Scatter in his MonoU, he can use this.
Retraction Helix: risky, but strong Heroic Enabler.
Fated Infatuation: Heroic enabler.

Black:
Bile Blight: Black finally has a great response to Rakdos Cackler and Boros Reckoner. Quite oppresive card against small aggro.
Drown in Sorrow: and here we are with
playable black sweeper. Another oppresive card against small aggro.
Gild: SB card at it's best. If anything will ever require exiling stuff, it's your best card to do that.
Herald of Torment: undercosted beater that pings you and have nice bestow. Seems playable, especially to protect your fragile Pain Seer.
Pain Seer: Dark Confidant 0.85 . Requires protection either by removing all the threats or buffing him up. Still, has potential.

Red:
Fall of the Hammer: nice removal for RG ramp. Your undercosted beef is perfect to blow shit up.
Flame-Wreathed Phoenix: powerlevel is high, but remember - he's 5/5 Flying for 4 against Control, and 3/3 Haste Flying Can't Die against Aggro.
Oracle of Bones: Hasty beater, either 5/3 or 3/1 but casting a spell for free. I consider him fine, unlike the rest of RDW.
Searing Blood: on the one hand, this card is cool. It's potential during games is limitless. But it depends on meta being all about 2-toughness instead of 3. He'll blow up Tidebinders and
Mutavaults like it's nobody's business tho.

Green:
Aspect of Hydra: Green Devotion's cheap ooooomph! card.
Courser of Kruphix: Oracle of Mul-Daya without a ramp, still good card especially since it costs 3 mana.
Scourge of Skola Vale: in world of Mono Black, it's good to have something to recycle your big dumb creatures for value.
Skyreaping: your best bet against Desecration Demons and Nightveil Spectres.
Unravel the Aether: because some people can't cast Revoke Existence.

Multicolour:
Ephara's Enlightement: repetable heroic enabler.
Fanatic of Xenagos: slightly worse than Smiter, but available in much more attractive colors. And Tramples!
Kiora, the Crashing Wave: Two Explores, One Card.
Kiora's Follower: he either untaps your lands for mana or triggers those Inspires. Feels good.
Phenax, God of Deception: UB Walls would be so, so, so good.
Siren of the Silent Song: Pretty strong effect on Inspire - has potential for UB Tempo. Either this or Spectre.
Xenagos, God of Revels: GR
making it's creatures disgustingly big and hasty = that's Gruul way of solving any problem.

So, short summary of the spoilers:
- Bx got a lot of additional tools, especially to screw with Aggro.
- Gruul got few good options, both for Aggro and Midrange strategies.
- White Weenie is filled with power-level but is still White Weenie. I'd play the shit out of it but single Brimaz costs more than the rest of deck.
- Red didn't got nearly any quality-burn. Searing Blood is meta-dependant.
- There's some potential in UGx Ramp/Control.
- Minotaurs are silly but funny with double-lords and crappy commons/uncommons that depend on lords. They don't have 1CMC cards on their own tho. Werewolves all over again.

I am very open to alternate opinions, like I said, it was my first impression from looking at the spoiler. I haven't given the cards much thought tbh. Let me know what you think!

So, that's what I did. For Fall of the Hammer, imagine better removal for GR Devotion which seems pumped with goodstuff now.
Oracle is fine card on his own, but requires fine support which he obviously doesn't get in this Standard. So yeah, in vacuum he sucks a dick.

Definitely looking better. I actually really liked Steam Augury when I tried this sort of thing at the start of the season; whereas I found Shock pretty horrific.

If I may suggest; I would lead
the deck in a slightly different direction; cutting Shock and Electromancer for Anger of the Gods, Steam Augury and a discard outlet of your choice; that turns Satyr into a combo piece and means you can avoid the pitfall of having to expend resources 1-for-1 on enemy creatures (worst possible place to be as a burn deck).

Firedancer + Essence Backlash.
Bitch please.
Yes, I just countered your demon, dealt you 4 damage and then killed your Pack Rat.
How do you feel about that... bitch?

4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Firedancer Satyr
4 Chandra's Phoenix

Burn (20):
4 Shock
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
4 Searing Blood
4 Skullcrack

Lands (20):
20 Mountain[/deck]

A good idea for this deck - splashing Black.
I could play main or SB Pain Seer and switch him with Firedancer Satyr. Firedancer Satyr is useless against for example UW Control, while having this huge-ass CA engine in this matchup feels good.
And I'd most probably play Toil // Trouble in BR build. Spike Jester? Be my guest.

Don't play UR, don't brew UR, don't even look at UR
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.

It looks like a solid build Yarpus, if Bx Devotion really is the top deck come BnG then I'll love to have an excuse to run MD Skullcrack

(yes I know Drown kills everything, but I can't really see them packing more then two drown in the SB)

I'm actually curious in how this will play out.

Will this be the new Stonewright? Bestow usually costs twice the actual amount, so this actually looks attractive. At least it wasn't a Satyr Rollicker.

@magicdownunder
The only hope of this deck is fact that Black is suicidal as fuck. You don't rely on your creatures to actually kill your opponent. You are totally fine with them packing more removal. It's all about burn and them bleeding themselves I guess. Still, deck severly lacks of CA engine. Splashing Black for Pain Seer wouldn't be a bad idea.

They do have answer for 20 cards in my deck. 20 cards that serve a supportive role.
They don't have answer for 20 cards in my deck, my actual winning conditions. And hell, they are actually bleeding themselves hard to help me at winning. People playing Shocklands. Mono B doing Pain Seer and Toughtseize (welp, Toughtseize doesn't hurt them as they take my burn, but it's 1for1 trade with 0/1 damage difference).

Everflame Eidolon is a baddie.
