Hello. I have been excelling at lurking these last months so my sudden appearance might be alarming but, I am still apart of ye ol' clan.

Life has been a rollercoaster as of late. I quit my part time job on the reservation and then moved and got a full time wage slavery job whilst I wait to save up enough to move back to Colorado. It is a mess but I have time on Fridays to play Magic again which is nice however, it led me down the dark roads of Mono-Black Devotion and derivatives of it. I should be playing Red, or at least that bad ass Pyromacner Red deck Z put forth months back, but I don't have the Chandras or the Mutavaults to make it work.

Hrm. Should I feel bad about playing Black Devotion with a splash of white? I know my first mistake being that the deck I am playing doesn't have mountains but, this whola standard season has been very unforgiving when I have tried playing Red. Devotion is just really, really strong.

Edit: Oh, good lord, my signature still has Lightning Mauler and Stonewright in it? -_-
You've already said it. Red. Devotion. Play it all your woes shall be gone.

Wow, that is seriously tempting to play. I could probably swnig what I need to play it like that by the first check of February but, we'll see. I might play Mono-Black until Born of the Gods is good and boring and see where I am to play Red again.

You also need to stack the triggers from a Master + Tokens so that the Master resolves first; that way if they have removal for the Master on the stack, the tokens still enter as 1/0s in imaginary land and you get double evolve ;)

Also Thassa entering at 5 devotion will trigger etc.

Anyone else unsure what deck they are going to be rockin' post-BoTG drops? This might be the first standard that I may not tap mountains.

A rather devious sum bitch at the local FNM plays Mono-U that way. He has the standard package of dual color blue creatures to have access to all the mana colors from Nykthos to possibly play your shit after swinging in with a Nightveil Specter(s). It is very odd to see him attack with those and then possibly play something like a stolen Boros Reckoner if the board state is right...though, it is a little bit of a dick move. He also just added some Galerider Slivers recently for some fun FNM lawlin' so he could give his mutavaults flying. So annoying.

Edit:
Anyone else unsure what deck they are going to be rockin' post-BoTG drops? This might be the first standard that I may not tap mountains.
Yeah, I am definitely not sure, either. I
don't know what BotG is going to do for Mono-Black with my white splashin in it. I'm sort waiting to see what Journey into Nyx brings to it with the Orzhov god being in that one. I might end up playing Orzhov Devotion if it is decent...which is weird considering my favorite guild is Azorius.

I've now got a decision to make. The rakdos midrange deck I'm working on has space for a 3-drop.

What do you think, herald of torment, or the new archetype of aggression?

Herald is really fun, but giving all my stuff trample also sounds fun...
I think herald is better, but the lifeloss could be an issue

I actually played against something similar yesterday. Deck seemed strong.

Same principles as the BW midrange deck; take a tier 1 strat, add a color without fucking up the manabase, win games of magic.

@ Raida: You're the aggressor 90% of the time if you're playing rakdos, so Herald.

Full spoiler? Got to write that CFB review.

Immediate reactions:
Akroan Conscriptor: too cute but high power ceiling. Is heroic real? If Yes, this card is very real. Unlikely, probably just a limited bomb.
Archetype of Aggression: crap
Bolt of Keranos: its overcosted, but at some point that stops mattering when you have enough semi-playable burn. I've played "worse version of legal 1R removal spell" many times, so this needs to be explored in the context of a heavy burn deck. Probably not good enough, but not an immediate dismiss either.
Everflame Eidolon: not Stonewright
Fall of the Hammer: crap
Fated Conflagration: crap
Felhide Spiritbinder: much like Akroan Conscriptor, worthy of substantial testing as the power ceiling on Kikki-Jikki 2.0 is very high. More of a RUG or Jund card though.
Oracle of Bones: ditto
Satyr Firedancer: ditto
Satyr Nyx-Smith: could be interesting sb tech vs control. Army in a
can style.
Searing Blood: obvious playable is obvious. SB though.
Stormcaller of Keranos: has my attention. That's pretty interesting to see how abusable it might be with some of the other cards in the format.

Fanatic of Xenagos: excellent
Mogis, God of Slaughter: horrible
Ragemonger: garbage
Xenagos, God of Revels: excellent
