The new legend rule loves this guy. And that 4 toughness. I have an affinity for 3/4s like (whichever pros) affinity for 1/3s.
Definitely worth the cost of entry.

Brimaz is neat and seems the it card, but Precinct Captain did not see huge amounts of play. Why should this with Control getting more pieces. This is no Hero of Bladehold either, as there is no Battle Cry. It will see play in Standard for weenie which is not tier 1 by any means. It will see lots of Commander play. To much pre-order hype with this one.

This is not comparable with Precinct Captain anymore than it is anything else than makes 1/1 tokens, IMO.

Does anyone else think that they changed this guy to a leonin at the last minute for whatever reason? Basically the only thing that really makes him a cat man is the aquiline nose (in a Greek set, no less!) and some tufts of odd-looking beard. Plus, only the one pair of nipples.

Which do you figure is objectively more annoying to play against, this guy or Geist of Saint Traft?

Depends on the deck and the meta. Geist in Delver was just soul-crushing.

I'm upset that the name isn't an obvious reference to Leonidas. I mean, it's a Leonin king in a Greek themed set... c'mon.

Beyond that - yeah, real solid card.

can't wait to sideboard this guy in UW, I was just telling Maverick before this set that the only thing the deck was missing was the Geist / Mirran Crusader / Hero of Bladehold surprise beater out of the sideboard.

I think that is the natural home for him actually; I think while everyone will want to put him into a white weenie deck, that archetype still lacks the pieces to be a consistent contender; especially with improved removal options appearing in black and red.

This guy has to be better than fiendslayer paladin out of the UW sideboard, for sure.

U/W midrange might become a thing after all

Patrick Sullivan, someone whose opinion holds definitely holds weight with me, recognizes the raw power / playability of this card but thinks it contends too much with Spear and Ajani to be an auto-include in every white aggro deck. I don't really play white aggro decks so I don't care, but he agreed with our sentiment that the home first and foremost is a control sideboard card. I do think he was a little hard on it, though, because this thing pairs with Brave the Elements and Spear of Heliod too beautifully to not as least try two of them in most W/x decks.

Standard isn't defined by creature combat, so the emphasis is in hitting as hard as possible for cost, mostly. This guy hits fucking hard. For to test it.
