You're reading it right, but how often will that happen? More likely you'll be casting this either post-combat (or after first strike damage!) if you plan on doubling-up the damage.

blood ia perfect slot in the red mirror matches for sideboard, kills a dork and hits for 3 got to love that.

Definitely a SB card against low-cmc decks/token decks. Kill a little blocker AND get 3 points closer to winning the game? Yes please.

AND generate a token if you've got YP$...

AND deal another 2 damage if you've got Purphoros out too...

AND recur Chandra's Phoenix if you happen to have any in the GY...

^This, Searing Blood is no Searing Blaze, as it stand I can't see myself cutting Magma Jet or Lighting Strike for it (though the Boss or Rw Aggro FoM players may view this card differently).

I think blood might have a slight edge over blaze since it dosnt need landfall to kill things, and most of the stuff that got blazed in modern was X/2 or X/1
