I think I'll try it tonight. Hell, maybe I'll live the dream and wall off with Weirds and Zealot before slamming a Dragon and making it Monstrous in the same turn.

I tried to play a greedy Dragon deck running 23 lands and 2 Stormbreath Dragon during the DE today, it didn't end well for me 2-2 :frown:.

4/5 for 4 isn't bad. Greedy as the deck is I never wanted to sac 3 of my lands, though. And I like creatures to either do more than one thing or just have broken a Power score. He's not bad, I'm just underwhelmed that all he does is come in and be a 4/5 dude. That said, Swaglover is holding down the spot reserved in my deck for a third Stormbreath.

I wouldn't play Swallower in this deck. I want all my lands, for one. Two, I'm not running a dedicated ramp engine. And three, since he'll usually be just a 4/5, I have cheaper and more aggressive creatures at my disposal. Poor guy is just gonna have to sit on the sidelines for now, I'm afraid.

I think if I ran your list card-by-card I would have done much better.

I won G1 against Big Boros (in the first match of game one I lost because I couldn't hit my fifth land with 2 dragons in hand), I lost G2 against MonoBlack because I kept a 4 land hand and proceeded to get flooded, I then won G3 against MonoBlack curving out correctly. Finally against Esper, I lost the last match against them because I never saw that 5th land when he was on 4 life.

I was running 23 lands with only 2 dragons.

I went 2-2 with Dragons tonight.

Let me phrase that differently so it sounds more impressive: I went 2-2 with a list I've never played, in a meta I'm not familiar with, with a totally generic sideboard. Weird night too. Not what I expected at all. Rounds were vs Dega, Boros, another Dega, then another Boros. Both loses were in three, and both were against Dega with Desecration Demon and Blood Baron without ever seeing a Mortars or an Act. Both wins were in 2 vs Boros and were goldfish rounds.

Round two vs Boros was awful. Poor girl got stuck on one land in game 1, then starved for white in game 2. Twenty three lands in the deck. Happened to her three rounds in a row.

Round 4, also vs Boros, guy was running 22 lands, but in a 70 card deck. :eyebrow: Guy acted like everything I played was an insult to his mother's honor.
I was like "Dude, it's a Cackler. Chill." Apparently only learned about Stormbreath Dragon that night. I confirmed that his hatred toward having it played on him was legit, then played one on him.

That's all the review I have in me. I'm exhausted.

I wish I could say I had an impressive FNM last night, but I didn't. I drank some mead and got giddy over a budget Devotion list I made and decided to run that over my main Dragon deck. I went 3-2 with the deck. I had fun, but I'm sticking with the dragons for next week.

My current competitive deck isnt that far off from this one. Im glad to see something rather similar. I played the Pyrored for a while then enjoyed the PyroBoros build for alot longer. Here is my current build:

[deck]
Creatures:
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4 Frostburn Weird
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Stormbreath Dragon

Planeswalkers:
3 Chandra Pyromaster

Instants:
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet

Enchantments:
2 Chained to the rocks

Lands:
2 Mutavault
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Sacred Foundry
13 Snow-Covered Mountain
1 Snow-Covered Plains

Sideboard:
2 Chained to the rocks
2 Mizzium Mortars
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Boros charm
2 Skullcrack
3 Act of treason

[/deck]

I love the splash of white, i was really against it at first. Though it seems i always, always get one of those chained and keep it for when i need it to end game. I took out YP as well. He was a good card, however
it got to the point where he became basicly a 4 cc creature as opposed to being a 2 cc which i like more. He really only helped me out against all the Desecration Demon Decks i would face in my meta. However i prefer the extra chained and AoT for that. Since ive been playing this deck the last few weeks ive had tremendous success. I noticed alot of people prefer only 2 chandra. any particular reason? I remember reading some one saying they would "0" chandra and pull another, that sucks tremendously. Im thankful it has never happen to me, and i dont think ti ever will. Because me and Chandra just kool like that. I love pulling her twice a game. Specially verse all the black decks with their removal in my meta.

That's just code for Mountains with cocaine on them.

It's usually what I snort off of too when there's not a hooker's ass around.

I can explain how a high-dollar hooker's ass is actually an acceptable budget option because it provides the two things you want - a place to snort your coke and a place to put your dick - in one price.

Okay, I took this list to FNM:

[deck]
Creatures 24
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Ash Zealot
4 Frostburn Weird
4 Chandra's Phoenix
1 Pyrewild Shaman
3 Stormbreath Dragon

Burn 9
2 Flames of the Firebrand
3 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike

Land 25
1 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
4 Mutavault
20 Mountain

Sideboard
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack
1 Hammer of Purphoros
3 Act of Treason
[/deck]

I had a disappointing night, going 2-2, with my losses being to White Weenie and Rakdos Aggro.

The funny thing is, my deck normally shits on these type of builds, but it would seem that the Magic Gods granted my opponents perfect curves while I drew 4-7 lands in a row.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the deck, and I really believe my opponents didn't outplay me - I usually beat both players regularly at my LGS. It is what it is, I suppose.

Anyway, moving forward. I'm
really thinking that my meta is prime for PyroRed to take advantage of it, which means I'll most likely be using Z's build until my meta shifts again.

Still, I believe the Dragon deck to be very good, despite one bad FNM performance. LP's suggestion of Nykthos was awesome - I think I have my perfect land configuration for this deck. As for the singleton Pyrewild, the only time I drew him was when I was on the backfoot against Rakdos Aggro. He was useless there, but I think he warrants further testing. It's a card that can be taken advantage of with the big manabase and aggressive creatures.

Here's my current list because fuck it, that's why.

[Deck]
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Recliner
4 Chandra's Phoenix
2 Stormbreath Dragon

1 Hammer of Purphoros

2 Chandra, Pyromaster

4 Shock
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike

3 Mutavault
20 Mountain

Sideboard
2 Flames of the Firebrand
4 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack
3 Act of Treason
1 Rod of Ruin
2 Fanatic of Mogis
[/DECK]

Hammer is a flex slot I've been toying with. It could also be a dragon, Pyrewild, or....anything.

I hate that I have to maindeck Reckoners, but Hydra decks are running rampant in my home turf. Hence the abundance of Acts and Fanatics in my board.

5-0'd at FNM with the above list. Swapped out the 2 Fanatics for 2 Frostburn Weirds in the board, which proved very relevent on the draw against Mono Black. The maindeck Hammer was huge in two games - hasting out Reckoners against Mono Black and generating 'surprise' blockers against Mono Green Devotion.

10/10, would play again.
