Did some liking and commenting.
Discussion point: R4, g2, you keep double scry land, ash zealot and whatever. You default to turn 1 scry to find a creature to make your hand better which I agree. Then you draw dragon. The question is, since your hand is "made" should you hold the scrylands with your new information? I think the answer is no for curve considerations but I thought I'd bring it up.
Also, Match 4, g2, I think you should have just played a phoenix and swung turn before last. The way you played it telegraphed your hand and if you're gonna burn him out, might as well just wait to bait him into sphinxing when he's at 8 and killing him in response. I'm actually not sure what's write as I think we can all agree you win 95% of the time from that spot, but there are lots of details you have to think through that give him the least possible outs.

I really like these analysis since they improve my games (you may have notice I've taking on board not spamming scry lands first unless i really need too ).
In regards to M4 G2 - I messed up and should have lost, not casting phoenix was correct since he had 3 mana open - he could have kill the bird then sphinx on his turn while I only had 1 mana open (if he had sphinx). What I should have done was cast both Strike and SC on his turn after he played the Vampire this way even if he had negate, devour flesh or what not he would have died to both phoenix on my turn (somehow while I was playing I miscounted the numbers).
I'm trying to make it a habit to re-count everything even if its obviously lethal.

That would do it. You double strike him, he goes to 2 right? Yeah, that leaves him all sorts of dead. The issue was it's a pretty off-script play. Mainphasing all your burn spells and NOT killing the other guy. That's going in the back up of things to keep in mind. I've probably had that come up before, but I def missed that line.

i think i accepted it, let me check. i'm leaving tomorrow. my "friend" faked me out so now i dont have a real deck for legacy. i have to resort to playing burn w/o fetches or belcher. gonna have a fun time 0-4ing legacy. still dont know what to play for the invi, but its probably going to be pyrodragons so that i dont have to buy more dragons

Last TimeI got another 4-0 (kinda, since I split for the win in the last game) - I like the deck and would recommend it (will upload em tomorrow)
Hi there, this is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a while now and I really like all the discussion and contribution from people!
I was just wondering if there are any predictions from you guys for PTQ metagame of about 100 players? I'm attending one on saturday and I'm not completely sure what kind of MD setup should I run... I expect a lot of monoU from local players, but at least half of players will be foreigners.
i'm thinking UW or Esper will be popular (in that case, probably putting 8 one drops in main for reckoner and maybe 1 mizz) but considering recent rise of monoW aggro (with B or R splash), maybe it's better to stay on middle ground? (not maxing on reckoners or 1 drops)
So any advice?
I guess MDU would recommend his actual list Also,
I subscribed to your channel MDU, really like your videos
Also, from what I read, there was no real arguments against Elspeth, so why the cut?

Well you have to assume at a PTQ, players are going to play the decks they feel give them best chance to win. Thus: Mono U, Mono B, Esper, UW, WW (with either splash) and REd variants. PTQs are more about getting lucky with matchups than they are predicting the meta. Play what you're most comfortable with.Last TimeI got another 4-0 (kinda, since I split for the win in the last game) - I like the deck and would recommend it (will upload em tomorrow)

in regards to Elspeth, she is good... really good... the only issue is the casting cost and colour requirements if you don't mind not being able to cast her for half the game (or more) then she is great.

I got another 4-0 just now, so that three in a row (I'll post it tomorrow)
@Johnny_Spike: Are you at running Tajic, Blade of the Legion or a number of Shocks? Not sure I'll be comfortable playing against small aggro without something like flames or the other two cards I mention.

Kill em all, btw my insane win-streak is finally over I went 3-1 in tonight's DE losing to Red FoM on M2 because I kept a 1 land hand with two burn spells, then proceeded to keep a 2 land hand (no white sources) to miss my land drops (I hate you variance). The plus side is on M3 my Opp. got land ****ed while M4 was a nice a friendly Boros Devotion deck which I 2-0. (I'll post that set on Sunday)It's a meta call. In the last GPT there were two players playing aggro, and I was one of them. I still think you have reasonable game against W/x aggro.
Edit: Post number 1111, make a wish... Please, good draws atvthe GP.
For the record I'm now on 25 QPs so I
need either four 4-0 to get into finals or fifteen 3-1, still have three weeks of farm time and the format hasn't been decided yet.

Setteled on Big Boros for Vegas on Saturday. Leaving at 3 after work tomorrow and on the car ride there, I get to figure out the UW control matchup. Basically, I just want to put the 3r'd chain in the board and I'm wondering if the maindeck card should be assemble or Elspeth. In testing vs. Huey's list, game 1 was slightly unfavorable mostly due to having a bunch of dead cards. On the play I was still favored though with a lot more blowout draws.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

No, I've got 4 It's basically for the curve as MDU pointed out - once I put Chandra back in I was running as many 4/5cc as 1cc and my draws were reflecting this. I prefer a fast start as much as possible to keep my free wins high so I tweaked accordingly - 4 Satyrs MD etc. This helps against MonoB (I'd rather beat early than wait for Assemble to kick in) and Control which is now harder with UW being on the increase. Meta wise I have been playing 2-mans due to time issues and you see a lot more random decks and aggro there so I switched out the Charm (only needed it for protecting Chains) for FotF. I also like the switch fromIs the three dragons a budget thing?
Aggro to Control in G2 to be quite sharp as I find this wrong foots people; it's like they are facing a different deck so it throws them off, theoretically at least
It's not a better strategy - as MDU's results show his deck works really well - just a different one to suit my preferred play style
EDIT - FotF is great against Rats which further improves the B match up, I'm starting to bring in a second one for a Jet.

Ran MDU's list last night to a 6-1 finish (Only difference is that I changed one Guildgate for BW Scryland) for first place for $50 store credit. (Normally Top4 will split and everyone gets $25). People were mad because I wanted to play it out and it was late (I mean I had to be at work at 8am too). But I saw the top 4 was going to be Me, Esper, BW MIdrange (Blood Baron and Obzedat) and Mono Black. I knew I was playing esper in semis. So I had my eyes on the easy prize.
R1: Beat WW 2-1. Same guy from Tuesday. If they are able to land an early spear, the matchup heavily shifts into their favor.
R2: Beat UW 2-1. Game 1 was my buddy who I went with, he knew what I was playing and said thats the only reason he kept his G1 hand. I proceeded to win the next two games because he got land screwed in G2, and could never find a verdict or Jace in G3.
R3: Lost Red Devo 2-1. G3 he just nut draws me with 2 BTE. T3 Nykthos into
Purph.
R4: Beat Mono B: 2-1. (This guy would eventually make it into the finals against me.) I am a little more hesitent with this matchup only have 6 one drops, if he is on the play and t1 Thoughseizes it can be a rough game.
Top 8 R1: Beat MonoU 2-1. Game 3 he missed two land drops and just couldn't recover.
Top 4: Beat Esper 2-0. G1 on the draw but I was lucky enough to have 1 FDS, 1 Cackler, Muta, Ash, lightning strike and Two Mountains.
Finals: Mono B: Same guy from R4. Beat him 2-0. Nut draw him G1 and he plays early packrat g3 which I had answer for. Then proceeded to win off Chandra Phoenix.
I only saw the BW scryland one time, and it was against UW in R2. It came late in the game and allowed me to bury a land and topdeck a phoenix. Legions Initiative was great, I never sided it out vs WW which might have been wrong. I like that it gives some protection vs Spear.
Still not sure what list to play Saturday at the GPT.

I'm toying with adding my single Elspeth to my SB. Curious if you've found a particular match-up where she's a no-brainer.in regards to Elspeth, she is good... really good... the only issue is the casting cost and colour requirements if you don't mind not being able to cast her for half the game (or more) then she is great.
BTW . . . I get SO much from watching your videos. Thanks again.

Elspeth shines in the Gx MU, but she is pretty much playable vs anything which isn't control - her primary strength is having immediate impact on the board so you could be on 6 life while they're on 20 and just win by casting her because she is that strong (unless they Rx or Ux Devotion)...
In regards to Firedrinker Satyr if you guys are not worried about Rx or Small aggro decks I'll highly recommend taking 4x Firedrinker Satyr more 1x drops means more free wins (FDS isn't great vs Ux but he isn't horrible - his main weakness is just being a liability vs damaging spells)
I actually think Lazerburn set-up with his 8-1 drops is ideal, though you'll need to configure this SB for the larger meta game if your going to PTQ or whatnot (I'll just cut
one Fotf and LB for 2x Boros Charm if I was to take his list).
@Lazerburn: Do you need help setting up OBS?
EDIT: Looking at the meta game now, I'm starting to really think Lazerburn list maybe ideal - when I finally go #-2 drop (I hope this never happens) I'll shift gears into Lazerburn's list.

I'm on vacation atm, and have just picked a random store to go to for fnm
I'm gonna run lazerburn's,list just for a try. Though gonna drop 2 satyrs for the 4th chain and a second flames, just cause.
lso gonna have one extra guildgate just to help the mana a.bit, cause of that

Enjoying the list so far. I have 2-0'd an esper and then a mono-u devo :O
(You know my historically abysmal record vs u/x devo)
edit: lost 1-2 vs a mono-b devo. went close, but game 1 I got land screwed, and game 3 I got flooded. (needed 1 burn spell) So I might be seeing the case for my taking out 1 drops being bad e.e

My main deck is the same as yours, minus flames and initiative, plus a land and a dragon. It's working well vs real decks. When I get something like Solemn10's schizophernic rakdos deck, I lose. More on that later. Please letNo, I've got 4 It's basically for the curve as MDU pointed out - once I put Chandra back in I was running as many 4/5cc as 1cc and my draws were reflecting this. Gah.. Wizard Published my win here (looks like the cat is out of bag now....) so now people can snipe me pre-matches.
Question for you folk, I recorded my 0-2 Drop which I got today (I think I jinxed myself, since my deck wouldn't behave M1, though I lost M2 outright) would you like me to upload it or just stick to finishes (4-0s and 3-1)?

Now I'm certain that you are insane / actively trying to make the deck worse .1x Soldier of the Pantheon is just me being a jerk against Br and GW decks.Post it please. We need to know you live in the same world we live in.

@ Montu: Why on Earth are you running Civic Sabre? It is strictly worse than a second Initiative.

I take that with pride since ingeniousness is only one step behind madness, but yes don't take the Soldier to any large event he isn't really a 1 drop in this deck just a Tajic, Blade of the Legion lite which I put in as an erupt decision after losing to Pedros yesterday and a crappy GW deck today (which I'll post soon - I didn't record the pedros game sadly since it was a "Just for fun game").Now I'm certain that you are insane / actively trying to make the deck worse .
@montu: I'll have to agree with J_S, an extra LI would be better then Saber - though Saber + Reck or Cack is super fun times.
@All: good
results.

2-1 at Fnm last night.
2-0 VS Jund
0-2 VS Solemn10's Rakdos Midrange?
2-0 VS GW Aggro
Jund is a real push over. Just aggro them.
I SB'd +3 Boros Charm, +2 Assemble the Legion +4 Boros Reckoner, +2 Mizzium Mortars, -4 Rakdos Cackler, - 4 Ash Zealot, -3 Magma Jet
Worked well.
Solemn10's Rakdos Midrange is a tough nut to crack, because it isn't really aggro, and it isn't really devotion. It's Rakdos Schizophrenia. I think it's basically impossible with my 75, but would be possible if it was worth dedicating SB cards to. I think it's a steaming pile, but he might prove me wrong at the GP. He plays something like:
[deck]
Creatures ( 24)
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Spike Jester
4 Pack Rat
4 Desecration Demon
4 Stormbreath Dragon
n
Spells (11)
4 Dreadbore
2 Hero's Downfall
2 Whip of Erobos
3 Rakdos' Return
Land (25)
4 Blood Crypt
4 Rakdos Guildgate
8 Swamps
5 Mountains
4 Mutavault
[/deck]
He is very strong vs us because he can answer any of our threats, and we have trouble with his. He also has whip, which right now, is my second least favourite card in standard. Why mono black isn't running it is beyond me. Lifelink makes it impossible to race, and if he hits it, the game is over.
If he made the following adjustments, I wouldn't make fun of his deck:
[deck]Creatures (23)
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Spike Jester
4 Ash Zealot
3 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
4 Stormbreath Dragon
Spells (12)
3 Dreadbore
4 Lightning Strike
1 Whip of Erebus
1 Rakdos' Return
3 Rakdos Keyrune
Land (25)
4 Blood Crypt
4 Rakdos Guildgate
2 Swamps
11 Mountains
4 Mutavault
[/deck]
I SB'd In: 1x Elspeth, 2x Assemble, 2x Mortars, Out: 4x Firedrinker Satyr, 1x Rakdos Cackler.
Didn't matter. He told be later that he boarded in Illness in the Ranks. Thank God this deck isn't a real deck.
VS GW, I was on the play and just beat him down. We are pretty damn good against this deck.
I boarded In: 2 Mortars, 3 Boros Charm, 4 Reckoner, 2 Assemble the Legion, 1 Elspeth
Out: 4 Rakdos Cackler, 4 FDS, 4 AZ
Play of the night was him attacking with a 4/4 Mistcutter Hydra and a 5/5 Mistcutter Hydra into my Boros Reckoner. I blocked the 5/5, then Boros Charm'd (indestructible) and Magma Jet'd the the 5/5, redirected to the 4/4 and went to 7. The Jet scry showed me 2x Dragons. GG.

Tomorrow my LGS is hosting a testing day for people playing in the GP next week. It's $5 entry, then 6 hours of free play. Each player gets 5 land cards at random, from different expansions. If you win, you get one of your opponent's land cards. If you lose, you give one away. If, at the end, you have a mountain, a plains, a swamp, an island, and a forest from the same expansion, you get a prize. Interesting concept.
I'm going to go, so hopefully I'll have some good data. Think I'm going to test Boss Sligh, Boros Burn and maybe PyroDragons as well.

Alright, went 3-1 split top8 at fnm tonight.
List was lazerburn's with a few changes to make me feel a bit more comfortable coming over from pyrodragons.
[deck]
Lands 24
2 Boros Guildgate
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault
11 Mountains
Creatures 17
2 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4 Chandra's Phoenix
3 Stormbreath Dragon
Spells 12
2 Mizzium Mortars
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
2 Flames Of The Firebrand
Enchantments 5
1 Legion's Initiative
4 Chained to the Rocks
Thighs 2
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
Sideboard 15
1 Assemble The Legion
1 Flames Of The Firebrand
2 Boros Charm
2 Last Breath
1 Rod of Ruin
3 Boros Reckoner
2 Mizzium Mortars
3 Skullcrack
[/deck]
Round 1 was vs Max with Esper Control.
Not
much new to say here. I aggro'd him out. He got stuck on lNd game 2, though didn't matter much.
1-0 (2-0)
Round 2 was vs Chris with Mono-u devotion. This match helped sell me on the big boros plan since I actually managed to do well here for once.
-Game 1 I threw down a cackler and just kept hitting him while burning stuff out.
Sb: -61drops, +2 last breath, +1 rod, +1 fotf, +2 charm
-Game 2 was second verse same as the first. I had a bit of a slower start, but ashley made up for it, and I was able to keep on the pressure. He landed a specter, but strike managed to stop that, andI had a chain for his thassa.
I will note that he never had a master either game, so small blessings I suppose.
2-0 (2-0)
Round 3 was vs Jason with mono-b devotion.
-Game 1 I had to mull to 6 and take a risky 1-lander with 1-drops and good stuff for when I got a land. I didn't get a land.
Sb: -3 dragons, -1 guildgate, -2 jet, +3 skullcrack, +2 charm, +1 assemble.
-Game 2 I aggro'd out beautifully and he just couldn'
t stop it. He managed to hit a gary, but it wasnt enough.
-Game 3 I aggro'd slightly less well, and it got to the point where I needed a single burn spell to end him. I didn't get one e.e
2-1 (1-2)
Round 4 was vs a homebrew RUG control.
-Game 1 he died to too much haste.
Sb: -2 mortars, -1 chain, +2 charm, +1 assemble
-Game 2 i had less gas crature-wise, but managed to drop him to 12. Then resolved a chandra and pinged him to 9. H was tapped out, and I dropped 3 ligtning strikes from my hand to his face.
3-1 (2-0)
Then it went to top-8 and we just split.
Overall, I think taking out 2 satyrs wasn't my best idea ever. I would like to put maybe 1 back in, dropping a fotf... I want to keep the fourth chain, though.

I, for one, would like to welcome our new firebreathing narwhal overlords.
