You are assuming he is using the term nerd derisively, which is far from clear. It could have been roughly the same as "I will never get people who spend a lot of money on sleeves" but with nerd as a fill in for people, since, like you said, playing mtg is guaranteed nerdity.

Well then I appologize for not assuming the implied context that everyone else can clearly read (not being sarcastic, since I am new). And I have never seen nerd as an insult, I haave owned that term for a while. Dork and geek OTOH I do percieve as mildly derisive, but the lines between those words are so blurry that to make a real
distinction between them is nearly impossible without knowing the speaker. Unless you bite the heads of chickens, then you are unequivocally a geek (yes in a discussion about geeks and nerds I made an etymology joke, big whoop wanna fight about it). The line between geek and nerd as far as I am concerned is that nerds are good at math and/or science (and it has to be a hard science not a social science, nerd =/= social). Also nerds will use multiple parenthetical asides in a single paragraph (and use terms like parenthetical aside(bonus points for nested parenthetical asides)).

I use Japanese Ultrapros. They're made differently than the american ones, and I have used the same set of 99 for 3 years, constantly, and just now retired them.

yup, this is what i use (used) when i play irl.

blue is my color of choice but i'm sure the color has little bearing on the success of these sleeves

I have multiple varieties of Dragon Shields (White ones currently holding a crappy budget Ghave EDH deck, purple, gold, orange...) and a ton of black UltraPros. Picked up some green/blue-greenish KMCs last week and they're okay. Starting to look a bit scratched up though, but I like the feel.

I wish I had more Legion brand Rainbow Unicorn sleeves... even if the sleeves are terrible for longterm use, they're fabulous.

Personally, I only use Ultra Pro sleeves for casual decks. I find that Dragon Shields are much better for decks that you'll be using heavily. I've ripped too many Ultra Pros to be able to rely on them anymore.

I like the feel of Ultra Pro matte sleeves the best, but I hate how easily they bend at the corners. I've nicked many cards in UP sleeves, so I switched to Dragon Shield with PerfectFit sleeves inside them. The DP sleeves get gummy but last forever.

I have mattes on my villager deck and haven't noticed this. I usually don't buy mattes but I ended up buying them without realizing when I put that deck together, so I just rolled with it. They are just like every other ultrapro sleeve I've used.

Perhaps I'm just much more delicate with my cards than most other people are? I very rarely bend corners on any sleeves, even Ultrapros. Probably comes from years of playing legacy paired with the fact that my commander deck is worth more than my car.

Once quad-sleeved a deck and took it to a ptq for yolos.

I proceeded to 0-2 drop cause fuck affinity.

I've found with a friend of mine who uses Dragonshields that the sleeves have a habit of "sticking" together, making leafing through a deck and shuffling difficult, almost as if there's some sort of rubbery friction thing going on. Is that normal?

I like the SCG Liz Nugent Penguin/Turtle ones... Sleeves are so darn important, I have so many, because if i am going to play in a big tournament, i used to just buy a new pack every 2 weeks for tournaments, tcg/scg.. i have found that sleeves with graphics tend not to get you flagged for "marking"
