Are the shocks strikes and jets that good against Midrange?

The way I see it, Devotion Red is a lot better against a Midrange/Aggro meta. Without board wipes, we can build a huge board and kill with FAnatic. Also has good cards against aggro.

The problem was the deck was a little slower and reliant on board state but without blue, it feels even better.
PyroRed can run smaller creatures like Cackler, Phoenix, and
especially Zealot into much bigger stuff and kill them while creating tokens. Eventually, you get Chandra or a Hammer online and take over. Her +1 really adds up since it does a lot by pinging them, faltering their best blocker, and bringing Phoenixes back to your hand. Phoenix feels so much more powerful than a 2/2, especially since most decks just can't keep it dead.

Throwing Reckoner into the sideboard will add even more value to the deck.

I had doubts about the deck before I ran it, but it just does so many things right.
Devotion Red runs Cackler, Pheonix, and Zealot as well... and also Hammer and Chandra
But no Young Pyromancer. :)

Though I'm wondering if there's a way to fit Fanatic into the deck in some way. Even as just a 2-of it would help deal damage in stalled board states.

I just posted KS States Top 8 over in the Standard forum here. An Esper Control pilot who I've never seen around before took 1st, beating BWR Control and Domri Naya in the Top 8. Mono Red decks took 4th and 6th; the 4th place deck was a weird homebrew by someone known for playing some different cards in his lists (both windstrider and I have run awry of some of his unexpected cards in the past that just borked Dos Rakis). The 6th Place list is more "typical", but they're both Devotion lists.

[deck=Jordan Kruger – KS State 4th]
Creatures
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
3 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Fanatic of Mogis
3 Purphoros, God of the Forge

Artifacts
2 Hammer of Purphoros

Other Spells
4 Magma Jet
2 Shock
2 Madcap Skills
2 Lightning Strike

nLand
4 Mutavault
18 Mountain
Sideboard:
3 Skullcrack
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Anger of the Gods
3 Mindsparker
3 Burning Earth
[/deck]

[deck=Jason O'Rourke – KS State 6th]
Creatures
3 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Ash Zealot

Other Spells

Flat would have been ok, but the hips don't lie, so yeah.
Yeah they do. I have "child bearing" hips (and an ass that won't quit) and i'm a dude. My ass and hips are big to the point where I have to where I have to wear women's jeans because my other options are rip the ass out of properly fitting men's jeans or wear loose men's jeans. As a proper faggot I can't, in good conscience, wear loose jeans. As a magic player I don't have the money to constantly buy new jeans, this, means that all my jeans are women's cut. Since my hair is long people call me ma'am all the time, until they see the goatee, provided they only see me from behind. Clean shaven, a stuffed bra, and with a little makeup I can pass for tall (6'1")
woman with little extra effort. Believe me, I have done it.

TL;DR: the hips can lie.

thanks to nbw for the sig.
You do need to try to gay it up a little more.

You're like the least gay member of this clan.

And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.

Okay, my spelling OCD drove me to track down the word sub function that Alex used to mess with supr gaye. There is no "US" in Porphoros, and now it should autofix when it's mistyped as a spongy-sounding adjective form.

James, you are FAR from alone with regards to misnaming the red god...the names in this set follow no rhyme or reason unless you are familiar with Latin structure rules (ack!). And the only people working outside of academia who know a damn thing about Latin anymore are the parents of children who compete in spelling bees for multiple years!

As far as the gender thing...well...you being with Pip rather than Alex seems to suggest you have that sorted. :unibrow: I was under the impression that YP would be a teen Chandra until I really looked at
the card and saw a boy that seemed a cross between Shaggy and Velma of the Scoobies.

Went to a win-a-box today and ended up splitting for the box with a friend of mine. We were both on Izzet Blitz and didn't really need to play out the mirror, (it's a coin flip matchup) so we went halfsies on the box and decided to do a $13 draft at my house and split the cash. Winner got free pizza, everyone else had to chip in.

tl;dr we are kinda stoned right now and eating pizza. i did not win the draft. also glad we pitched the box cause there were no real good cards in it.

Redbros,

Murphy's Law has had a field day with me this past weekend. It was Homecoming weekend at my college so I took the opportunity to sign up for catering events on campus to put money away for Thanksgiving break along with my regular work hours as a line cook at the local pub in town. The week went as follows:

Thursday

Working catering from 10 am until 4pm. As I was preparing to clear an event that had finished I get a frantic call from my chef at the pub I work at in town. Our sous chef had disappeared for nearly an hour and he needed me to come in early. I clear the event, rush home to change and go to work. Apparently the sous chef had a personal problem to take care of at home and had not bothered to tell the chef. Problem is he was gone for over TWO HOURS. The owner was already in the building and immediately fired him. I then
had to point out that I would be unavailable to come in early the entire weekend because I could not just cancel the catering events I signed up for.
Friday

Catering from 5 am til 2pm. Minor hiccups for catering had me scrambling all over leaving me to suck down red bull like a vacuum just to make it through the shift. Stayed to prep as much as I could because the chef was going to be by himself for lunch service. crawled home at 1am finally passed out at 3 am
Saturday

same catering hours as yesterday filled with more running around. By this point legs and feet are nearly dead. Go to work at the pub to find out my chef had to run the entire kitchen by himself, the computer system was down so the waitstaff had to bring down handwritten tickets, and the owner was too busy hiking out of cell reception on what he knows is one of our 3 busiest weekends. He then drops by and
leaves a number and is off again only to come back and drink and have a good time while me the chef, and the dishwasher (he wasn't scheduled til 6pm so thats why he wasn't there) are getting killed by orders until 20 mins left of service remain. Then when we start prepping for brunch and lunch tomorrow, the Fire supression system malfunction after being served nearly two weeks ago ruining all of our prep work. We then had to stay, scrub down everything and the owner was insistent on being open sunday, depsite the fact that he did not properly tell the chef about how busy the weekend was going to be so he didn't make the food order big enough. We would have spent about as much as a regular food order for not even a third of the product we usually get. Luckily common sense prevailed and we were closed all day sunday so i only had catering. How that guy can care so little about his business boggles my mind. I'll be suprised if it makes it past the 5 year mark.
nLong story short, with the sous chef fired, there is no way I'm going to states, which sucks because i really wanted to jam PyroRed. No one really respects Red at the LGS that is hosting the tournament. It would have been :tits:

Alrighty. I haven't been able to post much due to this being the busy season at me work place (Days off mean I just work 4 hours that day :P ) but instead of trolling you fine people I've been sneaking in 2 man and 8 man queues on modo!

I'm 16-1 in matches.

Z, your deck is sick. Only diff is I'm boarding Burning Earth still as I don't have mortars and I love the card, but that may be because of my $t4x love.

I would love to bring in huge insight, but alas, off to work.

Calling the deck Izzet Blitz really annoys me. It's like White Deck Wins, or Black Deck Wins (Although Orzhov Deck Cheats was clever). In my mind, blitz = Burning-Tree Emissary strategies. Izzet "Blitz" is the only deck
with Blitz in the name with no BTEs. I'm pretty sure some moron that knows nothing about the history of magic (even the recent stuff) thought it applied to any deck with creatures, and then it stuck. That and it's a Woo brew... that guy is a real cunt.

I've always known it to be a term used for decks that play all dudes and attack into everything. This deck does that.

He has been conspicuously absent this weekend. I suspect it has something to do with hookers and blow.

There were blitz decks before burning tree emissary, and they'll exist when (s)he's rotated out. Is there any agreement on BTE's gender, because I can't tell if it's a she or just a little effeminate looking. The burning-tree clan's shaman was unambiguously manly (and damn was a badass)

thanks to nbw for the sig.
You do need to try to gay it up a little more.

You're like the least gay member of this clan.

And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.

Nothing too detailed. Just a generalization of my experiences.

More like lawyers and banks. Sorry, it's been a real busy weekend - so much so that I've had to take the day off work to catch-up. I'll be back to work tomorrow and posting to keep the boredom at bay.

Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.

Great guy to have around? Hell yes.

What's with all of the states posts today? Isn't states Oct. 12/13th (i.e., this upcoming weekend)? In any case, anyone still on AIR/BAI for states? It seems like everyone's on PyroRed and Fanatical Red. I took BAI to two Magic tournaments so far and it performed very well; likely taking some devotion variant to the LGS tonight to see how it feels. I really like the idea of devotion red in the mirror and against midrange (mostly because of Boros Reckoner), but sideboarding doesn't seem intuitive to me. Dropping reckoner against control really suggests dropping Fanatic of Mogis as well, but then that's eight sideboard cards against control which is way too many. What's the orthodox sideboarding plan for the control match-up?
