I agree with LP's assesment on G/W, you need to make it more midrangey instead of trying to kill people with experiment 1 and dryad militants without reach.

The japanese have already figured out populating wurm/voice tokens is insane, lets hope it doesnt port over >_>

I also like Kuroda Boros a lot more than Dega. The tools are only slightly worse, the mana is infinitely better and you're not killing yourself with 12 shocks and thoughtseize just to play some cute 5-drops like Baron and Obzedat.

I think Dega is just trying to be the new "jund" and its a bit too early for that

Actually tempted to write a Primer on Red tomorrow to 1-up that guy.

But that's probably the Jack Daniels talking.
I'm sure Mr. Daniels knows RDW much better than Brian.

"zemanjaski » Sun Sep 29, 2013 7:27 am"What's the uncounterable blaze if X=5? That's stupid good with Koth (-2, 14 you etc).
I think you're looking for Banefire
Interesting! I've been experimenting with Bonfire in my Modern Koth list, but I never considered Banefire. His -2 into Bonfire has been wrecking the more "fair" decks, but Anger of the Gods is likely much better for that purpose. Anger + Banefire sounds like the max lulz, time to try this once THS hits MTGO.

So, Mono Red control is probably nearly tier 1 in modern now. That's fucking sweet.

- Chandra and Koth are both well positioned
- Stormbreath is immune to all the removals
- Blood Moon / Molten Rain
- Skred
- Pyroclasm / Anger of the Gods
- Lightning Bolt / Burst Lightning

Yeah, there's a lot of really nice pieces available. Boggle would probably be an issue.

So your win-cons are all untouchable by common removal / interaction; you've got sweet PWs and access to the best mana denial in the format. That's got to be nearly a thing right??
I've been brewing with this to some moderate success. It will likely be helped by Anger + Banefire. It has a ton of mana sinks and some good active disruption out of the sideboard for the popular
tier 1 decks.

[Deck]Creatures:8
4 Figure of Destiny
4 Ashenmoor Gouger

Spells:28
2 Bonfire of the Damned
4 Burst Lightning
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Path to Exile
3 Slagstorm
3 Molten Rain
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Koth of the Hammer
4 Flame Javelin

Lands:24
4 Arid Mesa
3 Blood Crypt
4 Marsh Flats
8 Mountain
3 Sacred Foundry
2 Scalding Tarn

Sideboard:15
1 Plains
2 Rest in Peace
3 Stony Silence
2 Torpor Orb
3 Blood Moon
2 Oblivion Ring
2 Boros Charm[/deck]

The top end would probably be better as Stormbreath Dragon, the Slagstorms would be better as Anger of the Gods. Path would be better as Chained to the Rocks (maybe).

It might gain something by incorporating better land destruction. Molten Rain can sometimes be a wasted turn.

Ugh....worst.feeling.ever. Just scrub-a-dub-dubbed out of the SCG Open in my town. Seriously fucking embarrassing. After all the preparing I did, heartbreaking. But, I'm not gonna let it get me down.

Played Big Boros, bad idea as control was everywhere and turns out the deck auto-loses to Blue decks.

Round 1 - GW Aggro - Stomped him
Round 2 - GW Aggro- Lost to Advent -> Rootborn both games
round 3 - U/W Control - raped by aetherling
Round 4 - U/R Control- raped by Aetherling.

Back to fucking sligh.....

Anger is far more relevant against Finks and Voice. Slagstorm on the other hand has any use against control. Mhm. Flamebreak OP unless there are some relevant fliers in the format.
What about Braid of Fire and some serious mana sinks? Ember Swaglover, Banefire. Seismic Assault?
Also, where's your Valakut redbros.
(SB Unwilling Recruit sounds awesome).

Valakut is difficult to tutor up, and most games don't go to 5+ land on board. Scapeshift is doing it right by going for the combo kill. Seismic Assault is nice if we're running a ton of land, but I'm not. A lot of my stuff is sorcery speed, so Braid of Fire doesn't do a lot.

Does Braid of Fire work with Bonfire?
Also, in terms of big boros against control.
Nobody has a way to deal with goddamn Aetherling. Use Boros Charms and Assemble the Legion to create the additional clock of damage going for their faces.

Braid of Fire is cute if you're running instant speed X spells like Volcanic Geyser, but that's loose enough as is.

Sucks to hear, man. Trying to consciously break the metagame can at times just turn into a bad guessing game. If you hit, you look like a genius. If you miss, well, sometimes it's beyond embarrassing.

I always play what I'
m know and what I'm best at. And if you want my opinion, you yourself have always done well with a low-curve Red deck in your hands. I think you should go back. Rakdos Cackler and friends miss you. ;-)

Try the list Nuwen posted a few pages back. It's been pretty good in testing. The quality of a few of the cards in there is a bit questionable, but the deck works.

Yup...expected a lot of aggro and mono-red but was not the case. Heavy heavy control/midrange. Very little Mono-Red.

I have always done well with a aggro deck....since then been on a horrible streak. First 3 big events I did(TCG 5k's) I got top16 or top 32, all with aggro. Tried something different last few and done terrible.

I'm just fuckin stupid I guess, shoulda played Mono-Red...

I guess I just felt, if I only play what I know then I will never play anything but red sligh, which is fine, but I wanted to try something a little
difference that I thought would be a good call and it wasn't.

To be honest, I don't even really like the deck that much. MUCH prefer to be proactive and be the aggresor then the whole clear the board and drop a guy strategy.

Boston area is typically big into control/midrange, but we both thought red would make a big showing 2 days after rotation like this. I'm sorry we were wrong!

So....realistically speaking, the top decks I should expect to be facing at States are G/B Desecration Demon decks, U/W Control, G/W Aggro, Mono Red, and possibly W/B Baron/Obzedat decks.

We forgot that GHC is relevant with Jace being live in the meta again.
Not sure if Owen was just overextending into that 3for1 Spheres/Verdicts or overcoming Jace.
