Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured I would get the ol' "bad mirror matchup" and "just play powerful white cards" advice! The deck sketch was an attempt to 1) lower the mana curve of the deck compared to the Rwg version, and 2) build a less painful manabase than the Rwg versi...

Hey guys, I want to play Burn at states in a couple weekends, but I've never played it before. Is this just terrible?: [deck] 4 Goblin Guide 4 Monastery Swiftspear 4 Eidolon of the Great Revel 4 Bump in the Night 4 Lava Spike 4 Lightning Bolt 1 Shard Volley 4 Atarka's Command 4 Searing Blaze 4 Skull...

Jack, playing any Tron games this weekend? Let me know your results if you do.

(I sold my Tron deck to a good friend to get him into modern, but I still am interested in following and studying this archetype.)

1 MD, 1 SB. I think more than 2 might start to be detrimental, though. My aim is to be really flexible G1, and bring in very powerful and specific cards G2/3. (Not really a novel approach, I know!) Going up to 2 Snap post board helps amplify those strong effects that I have moved into the deck. I co...

When do you bring Snappy in, Darth?
…most of the time! Bring him in vs. aggro with the Dismember/Repeal package. Great surprise blocker to trade with a Goblin Guide or Bob. He's extra Squelches or Pierces vs. Twin and BGx, he's a great Repeal target in a pinch. He makes Fabricate better, too.

Right on, sounds like you're all set.

FWIW, this is my current SB that has worked pretty well in covering my bases:

[deck]
4 Dismember
1 Repeal
1 Snapcaster Mage
2 Spell Pierce
2 Aetherize
3 Squelch
2 Pithing Needle [/deck]

Cheers.

This is probably a better sideboard: [deck] 2 Grafdigger's Cage 1 Relic of Progenitus 2 Aetherize 2 Ratchet Bomb 1 Sundering Titan 2 Negate 2 Spell Pierce 3 Dismember [/deck] What's your meta? I recommend Pithing Needle if you face a lot of man lands, especially Inkmoth/Blinkmoth. Your board looks ...

Well the mana is not good in my opinion, and playing 1-drops just emphasizes that.

I was thinking of maybe going the other direction: Underworld Cerberus. Sac to Tymaret so I can get back all my Rat fodder.

I am thinking on going back to PyroX Shell, MDU said probably PyroBlack is better than PyroWhite currently. Will first have to read posts from time I stopped reading this thread to get back in with ideas and what you guys tested, then I will try to post some ideas, results or decklists. I really th...

What do you think a RB mana base should look like? I don't own any Mana Confluence, how necessary are those? I've tried 21-23 lands and it's always felt best running 22 (in a list curving up to a couple 4-drops). I seem to rarely mulligan with this configuration, and the 8 scry (4 temple/4 jet) hel...

Glad to see people coming back to this. R/w burn has been getting all the attention but i feel this deck still has a place in standard. I haven't updated my deck list yet but that's because there's not much from JOU aside from Mana Confluence, Spite of Mogis, and maybe Harness by Force. I think a 2...

Also flashing it in EOT, untapping, and dropping a Fanatic of Mogis can deal some potentially big blows to your opponents life total.

One thing I was never short of playing Devo was 2-drops, I thought 12 was plenty. Chandra was always good for me, whereas Purphoros is a big fat do nothing in a lot of games. He's a good man, not sure I'd ever want the second though. Maybe 24 land is right, but I cut see cutting the Zealots and a P...

This is kinda outa nowhere but what happened to the Dos Packis lists that were floating around on this thread? They looked promising. Was it the printing of Bile Blight and Drown in Sorrow that got people down on the Rat? It just seems like with Rat + Phoenix + Tymaret there's a lot going on there w...

Interesting post Val, because I was just brainstorming in the shower yesterday about lists with Thoughtseize main. I have been bringing it in against various decks and it has been awesome. I'm a sucker for dirt cheap spells and synergy. Check and check. I'm feeling kind of jealous of the Boros Burn'...

You know that feeling you get when a card pops into your head and you wonder why the hell you haven't been playing it because it's the perfect answer to one of the problems you've been having? Hammer of Purphoros gave me that feeling. More Esper players are hopping on the Fiendslayer Paladin train....

-I'm taking a break from Searing Blood. It's so awesome when it connects, but Shock plays really well in this deck and gives me a variety of different plays at different points on the mana curve, plus it's never really dead, which is solid. Some kind of split might be ideal. -I like how solid 22 lan...

I don't like Mizzium Mortars because you only bring it in to beat BBoV and our burn suite already does that. That's interesting. In my local paper meta, BW is so rampant that putting 4 Mortars in the board has literally turned that matchup into a bye, so I can't resist doing so; however, I am curio...

I agree on principle with the 1 Tymaret for value, but it feels like one really wants 23 land so that it is easier to hold up mana for him. 23 also supports Chandra. The squeeze is then in the spell slots, there's only 14. 4 Jets, 4 Strikes, 4 Dreadbores leaves 2 more--Searing Blood or Shock. I supp...

I had that thought too, but with the increasing numbers of blind obedience in sideboards right now, I shied away from that ultra hasty approach.

If I did go with the Ashley and Exava belly-rubbin aggro, I would probably consider going Shock + Searing Blood and drop the Jet.

Interesting debate. Seems like the classic power vs. consistency issue.

Fate, could you extoll the virtues of Exava for me? I haven't played with this card yet and it looks powerful just on raw stats, but I was wondering how it performs in the current meta vs. the major archetypes.

Only lost to GR monsters who played his singleton Primeval Bounty in both games 2 and 3 for the win (G3 he kept a 1-lander on the draw with an elf that got burned immediately, peeled 5 lands and got there). LOL WTF. Througout the night (admi...

I like the Shocks vs. the Mana Dork decks, and lately I've faced more decks with random junk like Satyr Wayfinder, Deathrite Shaman, Voice of Resurgence, and Precinct Captain--the Shocks are a nice and cheap way to clean up that garbage. Valdarith,

How has the 4 Devour Flesh in the board been for you? Which match ups besides Naya Hexproof do you board this in? It seems like a counterintuitive card in your deck with the life gain aspect.
